  1. A few pictures of my 9-10 inch Super Red and 17 inch XB.
  2. That is a 550 gal its 9.5'L x 2.7'W x 3.4'D. I have several pumps and the spray bars don't restrict the flow just defuse it. This helps the water roll in the tank in such a way that waste and debris are carried to the overflow.
  3. Your red is a true beast! It is looking to be a late bloomer but there are several things that can be done to help it develop a little faster. Reds will always develop darker and brighter if kept in a dark tank. I would recommend that you change your substrate and background to dark or black tones. It looks your your aro may be in a tank without a back ground or substrate so these changes will help a lot. If you don't like gravel or sand you can also use tiles for the bottom they come in a variety of colors and textures and have a very clean look. After these changes are made, give the aro several weeks to adapt and be sure to take pictures along the way to see the difference. At this time your aro will be showing more scale definition and color and would be a great candidate for some tanning. Although NAN lights will make your fish look red they won't actually turn your fish red. There are a few techniques for tanning. You can use T5 10000k lights and fixtures placed on the front of the tank a few inches from the top. There are T8 reptile lights that have high UVB output. The UVB 5.0 works very well and is only needed for 6-8hrs a day and results will be seen within a week - this would be my recommendation. But it depends of what light fixtures you may already have around so I could help you pick the right bulb. You can continue to tan for 4-5 weeks then be sure to give the aro a rest before starting again if needed. Best of Luck, Bret
  4. The 2mm or 3mm sinking pellets from NLS will provide excellent results with your loaches. I feed it exclusively to my shoal of 23 4-7 inch clown loaches and they are healthy, active and very colorful. I would stay away from shrimp pellets, etc they have a high inclusion rate of starch's and carbs that would defiantly fatten your loaches up, but they wouldn't look great or be very active. Just like if you ate 4 loafs of bread day you'd get fat and sluggish. Heres a video of feeding time: http://www.youtube.com/user/ShineAquatics?feature=mhw4#p/u/16/X5vVBUHR3KY
  5. This is my first attempt at an aro discus tank. It has been very successful so far, I hope it continues to be. This is an 8 inch Diablo Red 4 months from tag date, with some unique features. Discus are standard quality Cobalt Blue x4, Fuji Apple x 2, Tangerine Dream x 1, Checkerboard Pigeon Blood x 2.
  6. This is my Absolute Golden Head. It has been in a dark tank for about 2 months. Currently it is 15 inches and only 8 months from tag date. This piece came in with a group of other GH's in March. It had the least amount of gold on his head but he won me over with his personality. He is a ferocious eater.
  7. Thanks for veiwing. http://www.youtube.com/user/ShineAquatics#p/a/u/0/X5vVBUHR3KY
  8. Excellent information Neil, and furthermore thank you for taking the time to research, test and share these findings and results.
  9. He is on the bottom 85% of the day repositioning himself every 20-30 minutes. When he swims around the tank he really moves and tours the whole tank. As for the max size I have heard anywhere from 18-24 inches, this guy could change that. He is an aggressive eater and I wouldn't suggest small tank mates. Although he lives with a school of 13 4-6 inches clown loaches he has never got close to eating one nor does he bully any other fish in the tank. Thanks for the comments,
  10. Heres a couple pics of my 22-24 inch Tig.
