  1. So where does one find bag buddies in Edmonton? I think bagging them with the bag buddies and prime, then transporting in coolers will be the best option for me. I really don't want to sell any of my fish, however there is one tank of platys that will be going up for sale soon because they are inexpensive fish to replace.
  2. I need some advice... At the end of this month (hopefully) we are moving to the Lower Mainland in BC. I have a 58g tank with clown loaches, rainbows, and African butterfly fish... a 33g with geophagus iporangensis, firemouths and kuhli's... what is the best way to transport these guys... ? we are driving from Edmonton to BC, so it will be probably about 14 hours transport time, then I don't know exactly how long it will take me to get the tanks set back up again...
  3. So from doing a lot of research online, I think there is a distinct possibility that the angels had Malawi bloat, but their scales never lifted and I that is what confused me. I think that the bloat was possibly caused by internal parasites, and I have been feeding all my tanks the Thera+ food with good results. I am considering using metronidazole with the Thera+ food to make sure the internal parasites are cleaned up. I have 250mg tablets that I keep on hand for the dogs... I am thinking I should be able to crush those into a powder, mix with a bit of tank water and soak the Thera+ pellets in it for a few minutes before feeding. Does anyone know the proper dosage? I am pretty sure that the bloat was not caused by bacteria as I keep my tanks pretty darn clean with water changes between 30% - 50% every weekend, and I don't overfeed. I have one angel that is hovering on the line right now, and not sure which side of the line it is going to fall on. Thanks, Michelle
  4. I found one of my angels dead this morning... Here's hoping that no more follow Michelle
  5. Will that harm the loaches, plants, or the crayfish (?) who I haven't seen since the day I put him in the tank (but I recently found a molted shell, so he must still be there) Michelle
  6. So they don't grow wings They are in a 58g planted community tank (African butterfly fish, 2 clown loaches, 4 angels, 3 rainbows, 1 leopard frog pleco, 1 red whiptail, 1 clown stripped pleco, and 1 female Krib in mourning) with 30-40% water change weekly. All the water parameters are stable and normal, temp is steady at about 81F, however last week I lost one angel to what I thought was an internal parasite infestation after speaking to a few people. I started the whole tank on NLS Thera+ food because I noticed white stringy poo from my ginormous rainbow fish. They have been eating the NLS Thera+ for a week now, and just the occasional stringy poo now. I never noticed the stringy white poo from the angels, but now I have 3 of them who are listing around the top of the tank with their lips distended, breathing normally, but not eating... same as the one that died last week. I just did a water change and added Mela fix and Pima fix in hopes that it will help. Anyone have any other suggestions as to what the problem could be or what else I might be able to do to prevent the death of the angels? Thanks, Michelle
  7. Where is Elite located and do you have contact information for them? (Just in case I am having one of those days and can't find the information myself... lol) NM, found the contact info.... Thanks, Michelle
  8. So, does anyone know where there are some decently sized L134's that can be sexed so I can find my girl a man? lol
  9. I have only had the pleco for about 3 weeks... As far as I know, this pleco is a few years old, and was probably purchased at Big Al's. This Pleco is not lethargic, and has good flesh tone/color, two of the big things I look at when deciding whether to treat the dogs or not... lol... I know fish are not dogs, but by my logic, internal parasites regardless of the species of the host, should cause similar symptoms, none of which I am seeing in this pleco other than the big belly... I'm gonna sway towards either a fat happy fish or a gravid fish... Michelle
  10. I am guessing that I do have a female, but would she be gravid without a male? The aeration is fine in that tank, there are two air stones running at opposite ends of the tank, plus the spraybar creates a good current and surface water movement. That pleco was that swelled up since I got it with the tank, so not too sure how long they would be gravid for without a male, if it is possible for it to be gravid without a male. I am going to go do more research on the Leopard Frog Pleco and see what I can come up with. According to the site you sent me, the males have the teeth like things on their pectoral fins, which my pleco is lacking, leading me to believe that I have a female. It is possible too that their are internal parasites present... what other signs should I look for to diagnose internal parasites? I don't like chemically treating any of my animals/fish without knowing for sure that it is necessary, and exactly what I am treating for... just a quirk of mine Thanks, Michelle
  11. Sorry, it's a little out of focus because my camera battery is dying... Thanks, Michelle
  12. On this page, http://www.marineland.com/products/diagram_ecom/n_mag350.asp , it is part #1... The rigid over the tank piece with the water diffuser for the flow back into the tank. Michelle
  13. I have just discovered that I am missing the rigid outflow pipe/diffuser and there is no way that I am going to order the part from the Marineland website... $8 and change for the part, but $35.00 for shipping Does anyone know where I can get a replacement part in Edmonton or something that will be as efficient? Thanks, Michelle
  14. And the males bellies get more of a pink color than the purple of the female Michelle
  15. I am looking for feedback/experiences on/with this filter... It came with my 58g tank and I am thinking of using it on my 20g instead of the bio-wheel filter... Thanks, Michelle
