  1. Hi, My female pseudotropheus just released a bunch of fry, but now her head is loosing color. She actually looks like she is "balding". It is most visible on the head and starts to disolve on her back towards her tail. Any ideas what is going on? She eats fine... Thanks, Andrew

    Hello

HI there and :welcome: Congrats on the new tank! Too bad you're an Oilers fan. ... at least our cities are joining to bid on the junior championships... CHEERS! Andrew
  3. Yeah I'm with jvision, sounds like a fern. Take a picture (if possible). For ferns, I leave them and eventually they'll pop off and float around and probably get sucked in by the filter. If it is a fern, you can pull it off and replant it. If it is a sword I would probably leave it until it got big enough. -Andrew
  4. The ballast is based on the type of light bulb. 33 gallon probably has a 30" 24 watt bulb... and it is T8. You're going to have to take it to a specialty wholesaler lighting store. Home Depot and such will not carry this type of ballast. In Calgary I would try BriteLite. My guess is it will be about $20-25. Regards, Andrew
  5. arixonbarnes, That's impressive, I know how heavy even a 90 gallon is. Cheers, Andrew
  6. The Bargain Finder or www.buysell.com. They have lots of tanks, just go view some and make an offer. -Andrew
  7. I got some new crypts and some have the "cryptocoryne disease" where leaves just whither away. Anything I can do? I didn't bury the roots as "deep" as I could. Could it be because part of the root is not buried? ie. Is this the cause? Thanks, andrew
  8. It's probably the starter, I had the same problem, but I changed the starter and it was fixed for $3. Hagen lights are easy to change the starter too. Take it to Home Depot or Revy and ask them. Show them the problem and you can probably try a new starter without paying for it to make sure it works. Ballasts for aquarium lights are HARD TO FIND. I had to find one for a old light and I gave up. It was easier to try to find a cheap flouresent light and try to swap out the parts instead. -Andrew
  9. I'm more interested in plants, but every time I buy a used tank, I inherit some fish! But as everyone knows this hobby gets expensive fast, so I try to just stick to whatever plants/fish I can get for the lowest price. I'm not that picky on what the species is ... I have gold fish and koi (most inherited), parrots/frontosa (inherited), rainbows (inherited), bought a bunch of tetras and cichlids. Andrew

  12. I have two clown loaches, after I moved them to a new tank with those texas holey rocks, they stopped eating for almost 2 months! They just stuck inside the rocks all day. I only started seeing one after 2 months, it was almost 3 months before I saw both out during the day. They are both happy and eating fine now.... you never know... Andrew
  13. Why not buy used and save half? There must be lots of 180+ tanks for sale that you could get for 700 ish. Also why 4 heaters? 3 should be lots ... -Andrew
  14. Well after the initial exitement, I have come back to the floor. I moved all the tank mates out and now it's just the parents. We'll see if they hatch or not and if so, guess I'll have to learn how to hatch brine shrimp. Cheers, Andrew
  15. Do I need to remove the parents? Or do I move the eggs? Their tank mates? I have a yoyo and frontosa and another parrot...??? Here is some info... http://www.geocities.com/parrotcichlid/breeding.html THANKS! Andrew
