  1. Hi terrie, With itch being a fish parasite I think your crustaceans will be safe. Had a similiar situation and the shrimp were perfectly fine. At least that was my experience. Cheers, Jay
  2. Hi All, Sadly I have moved from Edmonton back to BC for work and was wondering is anyone knows a site like AE for BC? I had no problem getting rid of my fry in Edmonton, there were always buyers. Out here in Kelowna I have had no interest. THE FRY ARE TAKING OVER!!! Normally have 10-20 in the fry tank, gotta be pushing close to 200 at the moment! Need to find a way to thin them out and thought if there was a similiar site out this eay that may be a good place to start. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Jay
  3. Thanks for the info everyone. feeling pretty comfortable that this BN will not be an issue. In her curent tank she is with many very small Juvie labs, peacocks etc with no problems. Must be all the good parenting by jvision!! Thanks, Jay
  4. Sorry for the complete Noobie question - What is "Green Water"? Sorry - just trying to learn. J
  5. Thanks guys - moved some misc fish from my 25Gal and put them in there instead. I took a solid chunk of filter material and cut it to size to divide the tank in 2. There is a small air stone and foam filter each side of the divider. They seem relaxed so hope this is OK. Funny how you go from wondering why your fish are not spawning to having a total of 5 females holding in one week!!! I'm afraid some are going to have to fend for themselves in their tanks because I just don't have room for them all to be on their own. Jay
  6. Hi all, Just wondering if I am OK putting 2 Labs in the same 10 gallon tank to let them spit their babies? There are two caves in it, but I was wondering if this is asking for problems??? Thanks, Jay
  7. Hi All, Have a small BN pleco that I got from jvision awhile back and she has done a tremendous job cleaning up all my tanks. I am wondering would it be safe to add her to one of my fry tanks that has some algae in it or will she go after the fry? They are very small (1/2") flametails and labs. Thanks, Jay
  8. Garage is the first place that it will be filled and tested. Better a wet car than a wet basement!!
  9. I totally agree with you fishbrain - I've spent a lot of years working with glass and want to make sure it is a one-time fix. The tank has 1" fir plywood bottom, than the cracked glass. with fuly laminating a new layer of plate overtop of the damaged bottom piece of plate, there should be no reason to worry. The structural integrity of 1"plywood - 3/8" damaged plate - 3/8" new plate (With the two pieces of plate laminated together) would far exceed the integrity of just replacing the damaged piece alone. My theory for doing it this way is I will not be disturbing all the other silicone joints in the tank and should maintain more structural integrity. My theory at least!
  10. With option C I have to disassemble the entire tank and rebuild. Huge job. I just thought with option B it should have the structural integrity of the original tank without having to compromise every silicone joint on the tank. Maybe I'm wrong... Jay
  11. Hi All, I picked up an Aquarium Illusions tank on the weekend out of usededmonton.com and need some opinions on the best way to proceed repairing it. Basically there is a crack in the bottom of the tank by the holes in the bottom of the overflow. I have basically come up with two ideas to repair it: Option A - First off I have to cut the silicone holding in the overflow and then remove all the silicone on say 30" of the bottom of the tank. I was thinking I could then overlay a 30" piece of heavy plate glass and silicone it directly over top of the damaged area. It would have to be re drilled and the overflow cut down by 1/2" to accomidate the new layer of glass. Option B - Is to do the same as above, but just lay a whole new piece of glass accross the bottom of the tank and re seal it. I would just put the new glass right over top of the existing (siliconed together). This option would add a lot more weight to the tank, but it is stinking heavy already so what's an extra 65lbs!! Now cost isn't the issue here, my dad owns a glass shop and the replacement piece will be really cheap. Obviously option A is easier, but do you think it would stand up? Your opinions would be great!! Jay

    Cultured Stone

Actually when I picked them up, there was about 15 pieces that had been sitting in a garbage can full of water for probably 2 years. I was wondering the same thing, but on inspecting them they had not deteriorated at all.
  14. Hi All, I just inherited a whole pile of ledge stone cultured veneer that I thought would make a great backdrop for my new 90G tank. I am just wondering if there is any problem using these man made stones in a fish tank? Is there something I should be treating them with to be safe? Any opinions would be great! Thanks in advance, Jay ***This actually should have been in the "General section" ooops...***
  15. Thanks for the replies! I guess I will try to find some of these airless bags and bag buddies and hope all goes well. Jason
