  1. Come on, Ryan, even without the DIY project, you deserve the award for implimenting an emoticon into your user name! I am incredibly jealous and from this point further be known as one of the following: shifty, mad, huh, wub (whatever that means), unsure, wacko, ph43r (had to look that one up too), drool, w00t or, my personal favourite, poo. Regards, :poo: PS. Just joking. Not that it matters, but you would have my vote, Boom. If I ever do a sump, it will be because of you! :boom:
  2. Sorry to hear that, Boom. I had a heater go on me as well. Walked down stairs and the lights were off in the tanks and the room. I saw the heater glowing red in the tank and it was climbing up to 90 degrees. Thankfully I caught it soon enough and didn't lose a single fish. The next morning it would have been fish soup!
  3. Thank, Taylor. I can understand the toss-up. New Zealand is on the list of places I have to see before I die. The way we chose Europe this summer was that we could see a bunch of different countries, cultures and architectural styles within one trip. But then again, I am a heck of a lot older than you so you have plenty of time to see the world, lol.
  4. Here are a few pictures from our trip this summer in Ireland. I highly recommend visiting there, what a lovely country. http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd293/g...um/IMGP0906.jpg http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd293/g...um/IMGP0950.jpg http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd293/g...um/IMGP0891.jpg http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd293/g...um/IMGP0796.jpg
  5. Well, Patrick, if your goal is spreading the love of victorians, you have been incredibly successful! Dal is a very successful convert from the looks of it!
  6. Well, I took the plunge this week with 22 Tropheus sp. "Red" Chimba! I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all of the help. I will be picking up some kiriza (Kaiser II) this month too. For anyone looking at getting tropheus, I have to way that so far I couldn't be happier. Even though the ones I have are 1.25 inches, they are so entertaining to watch. Such an active species!
  7. I am thinking of getting a bigger thank, somewhere in the 300 gallon range (72x36x27ish). I have seen the one at Big Als but was wondering if anyone had recommendations for other places in Edmonton where I could get something similar, with overflows and a sump. I know the stores, but am looking for people who have actually purchased from the store. The two factors that I am balancing, as always, is price versus quality. I am thinking on this one that quality is more important. Thanks for the help.
  8. :bang1: Yup, school is not going to be fun today. I think it will be a lot of me looking like this:
  9. Man I hate posting my videos after Patrick's pictures! Well, in the continuing series of me taking video with my laptop, here is a short video of my new tropheus after less than 5 minutes out of the bag. Tropheus I am loving them already!
  10. Sorry to hear that. What happened?
  11. I have a male I would be willing to part with. PM me if you are interested.
  12. Thanks for all of the replies. I think I should have been more clear off the get-go. I have BNs in my tanks right now and they are doing fine. The occasional fight or flight type situations, but overall they are still alive. I have never had any experience with plecos except for commons and BNs and was wondering if the types I listed above would work.
  13. Yeah, this one might have to go on the back burner for a while because of the cost and the risk involved. Thanks for the info.
  14. I was looking through the latest Spencer Jack list and was thinking of getting a new pleco for one of my tanks. Here is what I am considering: POLKA DOT L20 - OLIGANCISTRUS SP. PEPPERMINT PLECOS L31 - PARANCISTRUS NUDIVENTRIS MANGO PLECOS L47 - BARYANCISTRUS SP. I am looking for which, if any, would be the most compatible with my tanks: 150 gallon Haps 90 Mbuna 90 Tropheus (upcoming) Thanks for the help!
  15. Thanks for the info, Blue Ram. Just for my own information, why would you say the tropheus are the least compatible?
  16. I am contemplating buying a group of clown loaches, 6-ish, for one of my tanks. Has anyone had success or failure with them? The options for where they could end up are: 150 gallon male haps tank with some tangs and syno. petricola 90 gallon Mbuna 90 gallon tropheus (upcoming) Which out of these would work the best for the next year? I am thinking the 150 gallon is the long term option because of the size they can get to, but for now I am planning on the next 12 months. Thanks.
  17. As much as I'd like to help out Captain Insaino, I just sold her, lol.
  18. John, I agree with your initial assessment. My haps colored up and stopped trying to kill each as much when I moved them into the 150. I think your question about the 3" fish in the 10 gallon and the 12" fish in the 90 is also interesting. On that one I think it depends on the species. Some fish use more of the tank than others. I also think it has to do with the skiddishness of the species. I couldn't imagine my tinfoils growing to 10 inches in a 90 gallon because they would be smacking into the glass so much! I could see an Oscar managing in that 90, however. BTW, Rocker, 14,000 tetras in a tank would be insane!
  19. You would know since they are in our house, my dearest wife. Welcome to the forum, Mrs. GregL.
  20. That might be an additional money-maker for Gills N Fins--an aquarium-themed lounge! "Sit back and have a cold one while you watch the Victorians!"
  21. Yes, I did read through Tropheus corner and a few other sites and I really appreciated the suggestion, Boom. Like always, I like confirming information off of websites with the people on this site because I find there can be different experiences and suggestions. Plus I trust people here more because I know them better. One possible issue that it says on that site is that by mixing you risk that the colors of one group will not be as strong as the other. Has that been anyone's experience? One other issue goes back to the size of each group, a point that I didn't see addressed on Tropheus corner. If I mix two groups, am I still aiming for at least 25 fish in each group or do I just aim for 25 total fish.
  22. Could I put two different type of tropheus (different colors) in a 90?
