I set up a 20 gallon Quarinine tank, with a filter I left on my well stocked 75 gallon tank for a week... I also added a piece of foam from an old filter and some bio max. This tank still began to cycle big time. I also added the intial water to it from my 75 gallon during a water change. By what I understand this should be a good setup... just wondering if this is the way to set it up... I put no substrate in it and just one rock from my other tank and a couple fake plants.. The ammonia and nitrate are very high .. so is it ok to put the filter back on to my 75 now and let it gain bacteria Or do I have to treat it first somehow before I put it back on?

I was given some fish (platy's) with fin damage. Have quarintined them and have been dosing with melafix. To what extent should I expect the fins to return to,, Especially the pectoral. Do they actually regenerate to original health?

Is there issues with your tanks ever being to clean? I am kinda wondering if My tanks are too Clean? I have been to see some used tanks and Cant believe the conditions the tanks are in and the fish are breeding.. I am sure there long term health is somewhat affected,,, But I have had somewhat bad luck with bottom dwellers and am starting to think mabe my tanks are too clean for them... Or maybe the fish are of poor health when I aquire them.. which I think is another possibility..

Maybe there should be a thread or a survey for Online Vendors that you have used. There is conversation about Local Fish Stores. Now with the Canadian dollar so high the Online Vendor has become very attactive especially the ones that have a free shipping policy. My Question here is what ones have you used and what ones are you thinking of using? I have used _Planet rena with good results they have free shipping on orders over $20. for my rena filter parts. When I have looked at Big al's online I have noticed there american version is Drastically cheaper and not even in he same ball park.

when you run solid pipe off your filter how do you connect it? or do you run soft hose into the solid pvc with a connecter?

Is It me or is the equipment with the xp2's outflow seem really cheap... The out flow regulater has a lil hole in the top and water comes out when you turn it... I covered it with my finger and it shuts off.... anyone run one of these guys? and done any upgrades? Ideas etc

I have a 33 gallon tank that I believe needs to be tore down and redone.. It had a pair of convict cichlids who got some kind of infection. After I lost them I added new fish and have had trouble ever since. Is there a way oy of doing this by removing the fish and taking some action? or is the best way to take everthing apart and bleach the tank and let it dry out? anyone have some articles? or care to share some experience?

yeah my tanks temps are up too... but i am leaving the lighting on less... cause i think it adds degrees... I turned the air pumps up though maybe drop some prime laced ice cubes in there,,,,

Pretty much given up on betta's Hard not to get a sickly one from the LFS's and hard to tell the health in the lil cups

I am just not sure how unbiased one could be.... Do you cut your favorite lfs a break if the store is the pitts that day and you know it is usually top notch.,.. I know I wold find it hard to roast my favorite store..

I have never seen this pool filter sand?,,, I figured wheni went to Home Depot they would have more ornamental sands .. but.. no,,, The Play Sand is in the cement isle. It's a little finer than Pool Filter Sand. I found the play sand I just have not seen all this other options people mention
