  1. Given the thread I wanted to share this little section of text from this one article on stingrays: (oh and Vapor, it was a mistype  )
  2. I just took it out and let it dry. I've handled it with my hands several times since, just been careful not to poke myself. To be honest I don't think it's too big a concern, I'm relatively sure that after a few days the protein-enzyme that causes a reaction when people get stung doesn't last long after its shed.
  3. She had two for about a month before she shed it.
  4. I debated as to if I should make this post, it almost seems as if I've been spamming the board lately. This is a shed stinger from my female P. motoro, she’s young yet at only about 9” in diameter so her stinger isn’t particularly large. It’s about 1-1/4” or so. The tip was broken off somehow, not sure when that happened. To those of you running at low resolutions, I apologize but it's necessary to see the detail. Edit: I can't spell.
  5. Blowing up a flower with a firecracker might make a cool picture. He's a genius!
  6. My understanding is you have to get special permission from wild-life officals, otherwise it is illigal.
  7. I didn't know it was edited but last time I saw it it said something about "bastards". Maybe it was just pharsed badly?
  8. I have a Nikon D50, digital SLR. For my fish shots I've recently begun to use a SB600 remote flash on a cable. These pictures were taken with that flash, using some diffusion to cut down on the harsh light and to get the moody lighting I wanted. I'll help with any questions people might have, however I don't feel comfortable offering any advice. I really am a raw beginner as I’ve only had my camera about 6 months and had no real previous experience with photography.
  9. Actually you gave me a great laugh. I've always considered myself incredibly non-artistic. I can't draw, sing, dance, paint, play-music and my sense of style is questionable.
  10. A few people in the past have asked me if I take pictures of anything other then fish. The answer has been that I haven't as much as I should. This series arises from me practicing with my new macro lense. I'm still getting the hang of the beast. Please give me your honest criticism on both the quality and composition.
  11. You know Rudy, Between the rays, the stomatopod and the bimac I think you're getting to all the "cool stuff" that I've had planned to do for awhile. If you go and set something up for jellyfish next I'd swear you're stalking me
  12. It's quite possible if she's a recent import. Can I put my name down for pups immediately?
  13. I honestly plan to! Awhile ago I purchased a 7 gallon minibow with the intention of setting up a nano-reef. I already have everything I need for a small metal halide fixture even. Unfortunately, until recently the cost for marine livestock in Saskatoon was just insane. Not to mention most of what avalible was pretty piss-poor. I think I'll have something salty setup within the year though, possibly two somethings. There will be some very cool pictures coming out of it either way.
  14. They said 7.9mm right? I'd give it a shot, I have a few ideas of how I'd go about it.
  15. I'm with her on this one. Makes me really want to hurry and get a reef tank setup for myself. I've been thinking about it for quite awhile.
  16. I think that might give some of the killie-guys, essentially inverse, penal envy. Pretty soon they'll be dumping their fish out in a quest to keep even tinier ones! You can't need more then a quarter gallon for these babies.
  17. Looks delicious! I think I'm going to out out to Walmart later, buy me an Oscar and grow out a dinner for next year!
  18. I'm adding one more shot to this thread, not because I feel it's particularly good (it's not) but because I know the owner posts here and thought he might want me to: Scleromystax barbatus:
  19. What David doesn't mention is that was his 75th beer, one for each year of his life.
  20. Like most of my exciting photographic adventures, this one begins at someone else's house. It involves all the excitement of lying on my stomach and taking pictures of very, very tiny fish in a 10 gallon tank that was just inches off the floor. Not for the faint of heart! Puntius oligolepis: Corydoras similis: Enjoy!
  21. Oy, you can knock those prices down a bit. You'll only need 2 heaters for example, 4 goes well past the "overkill" point and into "complete uselessness". My 240 gallon runs with 2 heaters and I've never had an issue, in fact the pump puts out so much heat that they barely turn on at all. Rocks and gravel you can get for about $15-20. Pick your own rocks, and get gravel or sand from a landscaping yard. It's just as nice as what you get from the LFS, don't kid yourself. If you want to save on the bioballs there are various alternative medias you can use for a sump.
  22. I would but I think it's illegal in Canada. Remind me next time I head off to Mexico?
  23. Nothing says winter like a layer of ice on the windows.
  24. So this means I can make a joke about sex and fish right? ...right?
