    Lighting

I listened to Ty's advice and they work amazing for the dollar. They were phillips also, the little card board package wrapper is purplish and black. I think I paid 6$ for a package of two at depot. it says on the side 6500 Eric

    substrate

Hey Guys I'm in the process setting another tank, 70 gallon . I'm deciding what substrate do go with, a really light one(white) or a dark one (black). The fish that will be going in there hopefully are some yellows, flametails, and maybe some cobue someday (hint hint fishmanTy feed them the blue pills!!! ). The trick here is I'm on a budget for right now. So I'm looking for some cheaper options at the moment. so does anyone have any pointers???? Thanks, Eric
  6. Thanks guys, FishManTy, How big does the secondary tank need to be?... Golds that's where I just picked up my 45 long from, talking about my 45 gal I think I'm going to try and track down a xp2 or 3. I was looking at a used fluval 404 for 40$ but I've heard that they are not the highest in quality.
  7. So this where I'm at. I have a 45 long and 10 gal on the way and I'm in the process saving up for a 125 gal. I need advice on all spectrums with regards to cichlids. but right now I'm at the start, so I'm gathering gear. Filters are next on my list. so any pointers? is it better to have more filter than needed???
  8. hey guys I'm looking to weld a two shelf stand. on the top is a 125/135 ga and the second shelf is for my 45 gal and 10 gal fry tank. My question is what steel do I use?? angle iron, square tubing??? how thick do I use?? thanks guys, Eric

    floor strength

I was thinking of that too. I was actually thinking of using two posts. now here's a question: with the posts do I support the joists or support the floor directly, by putting a piece of 2x4 or 2x6 between the joists flush against the bottom of the sub floor. later, Eric

    floor strength

thanks guys, yeah the stand will run parallel with the joists not perpindicular(bear with my spelling ) so the stand won't be spread over three joists....cuz it running along with the joists and being the stand will bout 20" wide it baciscally sits on one joist..... the foot print how- ever will be the same as a standard 125 gal tank. I was the thinking about putting posts in the basement too.... thanks again, Eric

    floor strength

I'm just curious what is the max weight a floor can withstand. What I was thinking of was having a 125 gallon tank on a stand with a smaller breeding tank and one fry tank below in the same stand (approx 2000lbs). I live in a 2yr old townhouse. the room I'm thinking about the tank runs parallel with the I-BEAMs/joist material but the end of the of stand would butt up against a girder. I read few articles http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/aquarium_weight.php. No one lays down the law I understand why- can someone say lawsuit!!! does anyone have ideas or have a large collection that is not a slab floor???

    Hello

Hey guys, Another newbie has joined the ranks!! I grew up with having fish in a 20 gallon tank until I left home. Well now my family and I want to get some fish. I want to get into cichlids, I just love their aggressive attitude. So we're on the hunt for a tank, 55 gal or larger. Kind of looking for a deal, if so anyone sees any let me know. later, Eric
