  1. I am in need of an electrician to do some electrical work in my store. If you know of one or are one please contact me by PM, email, or phone. Thanks Chris
  2. It varies depending on the tank size. Just 3 panels to slide over a steel stand.
  3. I'm looking for someone in the Edmonton area to build wood skirts for steel stands (3 panels). They must look professional, be top quality, and reasonably priced. If this is you or you know of someone please feel free to PM me or call me at the store. Thanks Chris
  4. Fluval has a new heater out that has a digital sensor inside for temp accuracy as well as an auto shut off if the heater comes out of the water. I quite like it myself. It's pricd compareable to the Ebo's.
  5. As above, styrofoam and plywood = Dry laminate!!
  6. Were they wild caught or captive bred? The wild caught ones don't adapt well to the average tank conditions. They need soft acidic water in a well established tank with almost perfect water conditions. Captive bred ones are a little hardier but not much.
  7. Just curious, how is feeding your fish a potentially harmful food source any different than holding a fish out of water or mishandling it? Another topic for another day I guess.....
  8. There are many species of fish that when catching them the net does more damage than using hands, fingers, or even a 20 - 30 second hypoxic event could ever do. I routinely use my hands to catch fish. Either catching them in a net and removing them with my hands or just using my hands (ie: plecos). It does not harm the fish. As for packaging dead fish, that is just a poor practice (as is feeding goldfish to africans) and should never be done IMO.
  9. Plywood and 1"compression foam will do the trick. Keep in mind on most tanks larger than 90 gallon (if bought new) if they are not on wood and compression foam and they crack or burst, most manufacturer's will not warranty them.
  10. Try Polyrama plastics in Edmonton. www.polyramaplastics.com
  11. Just don't want to confuse things. There happens to be a ShaRRon that works in a local store that has been there a while as well. I happened to hire ShaNNon
  12. Just a little note, her name is ShaNNon, not Sharron.....
  13. Tanker, I would never disrespect my staff like that (they're to hard to come by) but I will tell you she is married with three children.... Staff shirts are on order
  14. We would like to welcome Shannon to our team starting September 6!! Shannon will be working full time and brings with her several years in the Aquatic industry. She has spent the last 4 years working for a large local Edmonton Aquatic store. She has knowedge in freshwater, saltwater, corals, and equipment. Please feel free to stop by, say hi and welcome her to the Aquarium Enthusiasts Family!!
  15. I would say a little overkill. I would go with an XP3 or a Fluval 494 as they both move about the same amount of water (340 GPH vs 350 GPH)
  16. How big is your drain line? Sounds like your drain is not keeping up with the return line. If you fill the sump more you'll probably overflow the tankitself as the drain can't keep up.. I would follow Rudy's advice add a ball valve and have less restriction on your drain line.
  17. I don't know why yours is so noisy as the one I have running in my store is extremely quiet. The only way you can tell it is running is by the movement in the return line and the water. All the customers that have purchased them from me are quite happy with them. Perhaps you have to much media in the filter itself or a kink in a hose line I would have no problem running one on a 230 gallon tank but probably not much larger.
  18. Sounds like you have an air lock, that's the only drawback to self priming. Check all your lines.
  19. I don't see it competing with the XP5 at all, 450 GPH vs 925GPH is no comparison at all. I notice on the XP4 you still have to fill the canister all the way as opposed to the XP5 where you fill about 1/4 of the canister, seal it up and the filter does the rest. IMO the XP4 is just a stretched out XP3. I would say it's about a 25% improvement on a Fluval 404 or XP3. Just my humble opinion, can you tell I like the FX5......
  20. To bad you're not in Edmonton as I rent them at my store
  21. Either buy or rent a diatom filter. Problem solved in less than an hour. Then make the above mentioned changes
  22. I would talk to the owners. When I buy or trade fish with locals I ensure everyone understands the the dollar figure involved upfront. Did ask how much credit you would get? At $85ish dollars I would say a $25ish dollar credit would be appropriate. I wouldn't be offended if a store won't buy from you. Perhaps they have already have a good supplier of what you have to offer. I know in my store I only buy from certain people (several on this board) and am selective on who they are. Kind of like quality control.
