  1. Hi Anna, Welcome to Alberta Aquatica! I will definitely need to get some more Super Tigers off you again one of these days. The black and red tigers sound very tempting to but need to set up more tanks first :P Hung
  2. The ones got are similar, but the yellow on the head and tail is not as intense. But all of them definitely got nice thick, solid strips. Definitely nicer than the regular tiger shrimps that I have seen. Now that you mention it, it did notice one of my starting to develop a slight blue tint. lol But from what she told me she is not the most selective breeder, at least when to comes to her tigers. I quite enjoy my super tigers though, they are always very active and not shy at all. I will see if i can get around to taking some photos of them one of these days.
  3. Super Tigers are usually characterize by having yellow heads & tails, thick, wide strips and are suppose to grow bigger than regular tiger shrimps. They are apparently come from a different river than regular tigers. Imke summerizes it fairly well on one of her blog post http://www.blue-tiger-shrimp.com/blog/supertiger-shrimp-grading/ I got some from Anna along with my OEBT's a while back. Unfortunately my heater went fizz and cooked most of them. The few i have left are all males i believe so i might put in anohter order with Anna one of these days. Hung
  4. btw, did any of you pick up any Super Tigers from Anna?
  5. Nice photos Ron! The Blue Aura looks very nice! I keep my OEBT's in the same parameters as my CRS's pH 6.6 Temp 74°F GH ~ 4° KH 1° I use pure R/O water and add MineralPlus until it is around 150-180ppm. Seems to work alright so far, just saw that my third female OEBT got berried today, she was the last of my females, so all three of them got berried within a week or so. Debating whether to start mixing in tap water but I been hesitant to do so as long as they seem like they are doing well. Will see how things go once the shimplets hatch in a month or so. I keep my SS CRS's are keep in the same parameters and the largest female finally got berried the other days as well. I think R/O water definitely helps for CRS, not sure if it would make a difference with OEBT's though. Many of the breeders in Germany use fairly hard tap water without any issues.
  6. Hope you all have great success with your OEBT's! I picked up some juvies from Anna back in March. They seem to be more active and mature faster than my CRS's. My first females from that group got berried last week. Going to see if i can increase the ratio of blonds vs blues by selectively breeding them. Hung
  7. 79F tends to be a bit on the warm side for crystal reds but still is within tolerences. I know Crystral Reds and Tiger shrimps tend to enjoy cooler temperatures. I try to keep my CRS and Tiger tanks around 23-24C (~ 74F). Ideally i would like keep them even lower - around 22C if i can but it is pretty hard to keep it that low consistently without the use of a chiller in my condo. My place also tends to warm up during the day when the sun is out because of my windows. Too much of a temperature change would stress them out. For the cherries, they can adapt to a wide range of temperatures, although they seems to show better colors on the warmer end of the spectrum. I would say around 26-28C is ideal so what you currently have it set to should be fine for them. If you are housing both of them the same tank i think you should aim for around 24C, but if they are doing just fine at what you have them at, I won't rush to lower the temperature. Just make sure it is consistent thru out the day and night. if you do lower your temperature do it slowly. Hope this helps Hung
  8. Very nice Ron! What kind of lighting are using? Are those LEDs in see on the photo on the right? I am debating about switching over to LEDs to save on electricity costs but not sure how they would do with a planted tank. Hung
  9. Count me in as well! Going to need some Shrimp Lab products as well as some Mosura products from Canadian Aquatic if Frank is able to combine shipping Hung
  10. Big Als is slightly cheaper than Pices for CRS and both are cheaper than Riverfront. Not sure if ppl snap them up very quickly but if they just don't do well on the trip from whoever they get them from, but every time go to Big Al's here in Calgary, it seems like either there is nothing left in their fancy shrimp tanks or half of them are dead, or a bit of both. Oddly enuf there was a lot of empty shells in the snail tanks as well. Pity, they had some nice Zebra Nerites in one of the tanks the other day, but most of them were empty shells. As popcornshrimp mentioned, Pisces' pricing is a bit more than Big al's but they seems to be doing a better job of keeping them alive. Most of the ones i saw were A grade or lower but of decent size. Riverfront is quite a bit more, but they are very good quality CRS (at least for a LFS). I would say most were around S grade, one of the one i picked up a couple months ago I would even say it would be a S+ grade. Most of them are pretty young though. Hung
  11. For the higher quality shrimps it seems like the hobbyist / breeder is the way to go. There is a number of them out west and out east as well. Some of them post on several other forums. So far there doesn't seem to be any serious breeders out here yet. myself , I currently have some low grade Crystal Reds, Orange Sunkist, Fire Red / Painted Fire Reds. I acquire these from various sources over the last little while, mostly LFS. Once the weather gets a bit warmer (and i get some more tanks set up) i am planning to get more more higher quality Painted Fire Reds and CRS, Super Tigers and OEBT, maybe even some OE Black Tigers
  12. Hey Ron, Is there a sure fire way to sex them? It would seem that most of mine Fire Red's are a fairly solid red, having a hard time trying to pick out the males in my group - not sure if i even have any.. they all seem to have decent color, so i am not sure if the smaller ones are males or just really young females. I will see if I can take some pictures and post them
  13. lol me too! I decided to get back into shrimps - after some research I discovered I would need to several tanks set up for all the different ones I wanted to keep to prevent them from interbreeding. Than i just recently discovered all the different types of horned nerites snails there is out there.. would awesome to be able to select the nice ones and reproduce them, although i am told they need brackish water ot do so and i am not sure if anyone has been able to do so successfully. and the worst part is, i live in a condo! Hung
  14. I already got large order of Mosura products coming in for myself within the next few days, if all goes well i might need some more once it comes time to re supply. I guess i would depends on prices (i.e if it is more economical from the Canadian disty instead of the US one. I also plan on getting ordering OEBT's and maybe some black one as well from her once I get some of my new tanks properly cycled - perhaps we can put together a group order if the timing works out Hung
  15. Congratulations! Are they starting to show some red that some PFR shimplets are known to show at a very young age?
  16. Hi ya's I been a member of Alberta Aquatica for many years but never really posted that much. I guess this will only be my second post on the new site :P I guess my main interest is freshwater dwarf shrimps. I started with them about 4-5 years ago but back than i could only get my hands on Amano shrimps and the occasional Cherry Red's. Didn't really have much luck back than and other things in my life took over but last month as i saw one of those Fluval Ebi Shrimp kit and it got me thinking about shrimps again. Browsing through some of the stuff on the web, I was amazed by how far the hobby has come along and it really inspired me to get back into it. I currently have a 110 gallon planted tank that been running for many years but haven't really done much with it. I also a couple of smaller tanks nad am planning to set up a couple of 20 gallon tanks; all for shrimps (and maybe some endler's in the 110 gal.) I am quite excited about getting back into shrimps and looks forward to meeting and learning from all the fellow shrimp lovers here! Thanks - Hung
