  1. Here is a picture of my DIY drop checker. I don't like the look of those bulby glass ones. I saw the plans for this one and gave it a try. I made it out of acrylic. The first one i made i used silicone, but soon realized that acrylic and silicone aren't the best mix. Then i bought acrylic epoxy from the dollar store and made it much better. I thought about where to buy acrylic sheets, but realized i had plastic picture frames. If you just score the plastic with a knife it breaks cleanly. Total cost was a buck. And i prefer a boxy look too. Regards Devon
  2. I mix my own as well. I just bought 3 years worth of dry ferts, NPK and trace, from all year garden centre (hydroponics) for 20 bucks. Just mix my own and but it in pump bottles.
  3. My 6 gallon play tank until i have all the pieces for my 50. Started January 21/2008 Just started EI on April 19/2008 Flourish Excel for Carbon 6 Neon Tetra 2 Pygmy Cory Plants? Devon
  4. thanks guys. I haven't tried concept aquarium systems yet.
  5. Hi all. Anybody have good advice for a quality custom tank builder. Starphire, 36*18*18 rimless
  6. I ended up buying Tek 36" T5 4*39watt. System. I think it will work great and i won't have to worry about making upgrades.
  7. Hi guys. I'm having difficulty deciding what kind of fixture to buy. I want T5 3foot 150-200watt for my 50 gallon. I've read about Nova extreme but don't like that the fans are noisy. I've also read about orbit, Tek etc. I just don't know what to choose. But i'm willing to pay to get it right the first time. I'm going to get a 36*18*18 built for $130 from aquagiant (just thought i would let everyone know in case they want a custom made, they said they could do it rimless ADA style for me) So if anyone has any lighting suggestions that would be awsome. Here is a picture of my little 6 gallon that i'm playing with. I've got Java ferns attached to the drift wood in the middle. It has 6 neon tetras, and 2 pigmy corys. Devon
  8. Does anyone know where to purchase or have made rimless aquariums in alberta. I like the idea of it. I know of ADA and afew other places in the USA, but i was wondering if anyone knew of anything more local. Thanks Devon
  9. Can anyone suggest a good T5 luminaire, or lighting system.
  10. Great i'm going to do a bunch more research then on T5, i've been hearing that alot. I'm glad i've asked. Thanks
  11. Thanks, i just recieved similar advice today and i'm seeing the "light".
  12. Thanks for Replying. The reason why i decided to go with compact fluorescent is that it is said that they last far longer then ordinary fluorescent, and can pack more wattage. When your refer to T5HO fixtures, is that refering to regular fluorescent fixture lighting. What is the difference in light given off by them. Also its good to know that buying a CO2 system wouldn't cost me much more then making one. Devon
  13. Hi all. Over the past few years my love/addiction for aquariums has really peaked and I just bought a 75 gallon tank with the hopes to create a well planted aquascape. Right now i'm in the process of planning lighting (i want 3-4 wpg so approx 260watt total using compact fluorescent) and i'm trying to figure out a good system. I have the satellite dual 260 watt, the orbit 260 watt and Nova extreme pro 324 watt in mind. If anyone knows anything about these lights or other good lighting systems and places to buy them i would love the advice. I'm also trying to plan out the correct CO2 injection system. I know i want to get a compressed cannister system but i don't know whether to buy one from an aquarium store or make one myself. So advice in that area would be great too. I just wanted to introduce myself and hope there were some mentors in the edmonton/alberta area that could help me along. Thanks alot Devon
