  1. I can always get rid of some of the fry in my 33's to make room for the female phenochilus and the male can go in the 100gal.
  2. Great shots and the fry do grow relatively fast. What size tank is he in/tankmates?
  3. Seeing I have a bit of mysis I'll try it . They were doing a little bit of circling again this afternoon. If they don't hurry up they'll be back in the rowdy tank as Neil and I have new plans for the 150 gal.
  4. Nice pics . He's got some nice color to him.
  5. If I could take pictures like that I think I'd make it my living ... Nice , high-quality pics!
  6.      Hey you posted at the same time as I did ; I think that means you owe me a beer.
  7. FYI those of you that don't know , these fish are excellent jumpers. My first jardini got to be about 10'' and one day I got up to find that he had jumped out of the tank even with a heavy glass top. After that I put latches on the top. I watched the second one try to do the same thing . He was trying to get at a spider that was hanging from the ceiling. Very cool fish but IMHO you should only keep these guys in at least a 6' -180+gal tank. I kept mine in a 5'-150gal and they outgrew it in about a year and a half.
  8. I've kept them in the past. The silver was boring and not much color. The jardini I had kicked the crap out of my giant gourami which was about twice the size and that was the end of the arowanas until I can afford a really nice asian one. As for food I fed mine raw shrimp which brings out a lot of the red and pink hues, and crickets. My uncle has a chili red that he got from Golds which is an awsome specimen. They are way more mild than the jardinis or silvers and ten times as pretty. There really is no comparison. He keeps his with a tigriness cat ( not sure of the spelling) some ugly friggin' parrot fish and about a dozen oddly marked clown loaches. He feeds his the shrimp ,NLS , crickets , and occasionally the silversides. This is one of the nicest arrowanas I've seen and its only about 10 or 12" long. Sure to be an awsome specimen. Sorry I lost the pics he sent me but I'll try to get some more.

  11. Hey, great picks . Let me know if you get them to breed.
  12. My main concern is that the female may be too old. She hasn't grown since I got her . The male has grown about 1.5" to about 4.5-5" and has the freckles and he seems interested but the female seems disinterested. Adding more females would be difficult as it isn"t everyday you come across WC phenochilus.I'll try to post some pictures of my tank after supper.
  13. Maybe a damaged swim bladder or gastro-intestinal issue of some kind . I've heard of using epsom salts to help relieve this type of condition but someone else will have to give you the dosage because I don't remember where I saw the article.
  14. I still like the play sand and if you mix it with larger gravel it seems to work better as it doesn't move around as much. To each his own. I like the fact that the crap sits on top . This tells you how much waste is being produced and how efficient your bacteria are functioning. I'd rather see it on top than have it hiding in the gravel polluting the tank. As far as I'm concerned any product which accomplishes this is the one to choose. Plus you never get to see fossorochromis rostratus bury himself in the sand when you try to net him or some of the other sifting behavior if you go with gravel. If you can move your intakes up it and still have good ciculation it works the best. I've never tried pool filter sand but it would probably be a wise choice if Neil recommends it . I've followed some of his other tricks of the trade and haven't been steered wrong yet. It boils down to what works for you and for your fish and your tank. My 150 gal has a sand/ washed river rock mix that works for me but I have a ton of circulation 2 large powerheads, 2 AC 500/110, and a Rena XP3. My 100 gal has only play sand and it tends to move around a little more. Gravel may be added to it in the future to help prevent it from shifting so much.
  15. I may just have to be patient with these guys but if anyone has any tips I'd appreciate them. I just took everybody else out of my 150 gal so they have lots of room and no intruders. Any other advice . Temp is around 80-82F. Ph is in the mid 7's (7.3-7.5) which is a little low but the Taiwon reef bred in the same tank on the 15th so it can't be that far out of whack. Any advice would be appreciated . Thanks Ryan.
  16. Sorry, ...... I got them at Golds.
  17. He's The tanzanian morph . That picture is right after I got him and he was about 3.5" then and he is about 5" now and he has all kinds of freckles. When I get the batteries charged on my camera I'll post a bunch more picks.
  18. Him and his girlfriend are now on their own in the 150 gal.

  21. My uncle picked one up at Gold's a while back but I'm not sure what he paid for it.
  22. I'm kind of new to this computer stuff and was wondering if anyone in the Red Deer area had a moment to show the new guy how to post pics and links and that sort of stuff. Any time in the next week would be good for me except Sat. Thanks,Ryan.
  23. I just googled nandopsis salvini and found a ton of info . They can be kept with plants although they are omnivorous. One site said they are intolerant of other species while another said they can be kept with other med sized cichlids, loricarids and characins. One site said to keep them in a20-30 gal while another recommended at least a 55 gal. Hope that adds to the confusion.
