  1. Thanks heff, yeah RCS are pretty sweet for something so small, and 10-15 per gallon sounds pretty reasonable, I dont know when I will be removing the shrimps, if selling I could remove earlier but if I run out of space I will set up a 10 gallon for them and get CRS as well. Thanks! Thanks Vallisneria, I sort of want an in between the really shrimpy and sparse, I think the max I would keep in that tank is 45, though in reality Ill probably start removing to other tanks if they go above 30. Thanks again! Hey Kronosdelsol, I don't need just the lights, the 7.5 gallon doesn't have a hood and I don't know how to make one as I have never done any wood work in my life. Buying one is not an option as it would be expensive. I also sort of want a mini planted tank but I will consider if things dont go the way they are planned. Thanks!
  2. I had originally planned on having a small 3 gallon moss planted tank with only red cherry shrimps to breed. I have 10 in a 7.5 gallon with 5 guppies but I gave away my guppies a couple days ago. I woke up this morning with around 40 baby shrimplets minimum (yes I bothered to count lol)all over the 7.5 gallon. I still want to go ahead with the planted shrimp tank but I am curious how much the 3 gallon will be able to hold? because I dont have the lighting to turn the 7.5 gallon into a planted I have read from 1-25 per gallon and both those numbers sound extreme, my opinion is that 15-20 sounds more reasonable as they dont add a lot to the bio load, the only thing Im worried about is them not having a lot of surface area to graze upon even though I plan on covering the tank with moss. Any opinions are welcomed, and keep in mind that a lot of the baby shrimps will be removed either sold or traded to expand my fish addiction. Another option is to make the 7.5 gallon they are in a fry tank with them in it, and I can put live bearer fry in there, and remove them before they start eating the shrimps and turn the 3 gallon into a tank for a different shrimp? Maybe red crystal or some rare shrimp? Thanks

    Hi

    :welcome: to AA!
  5. Hey randy, and yeah I think we are both referring to the same thing, the watering stock tanks that farmers use for livestock is what I am going to end up getting. Thanks
  6. Good News - Bad News scenerio Bad news, I have to put back the pond project for a month or something...depends on how things go. Good News, when I do start the project, I'll be looking into a stock tank and it will be at least a 50 gallon, though Im hoping for a 100 gallon :smokey: with a container that big, I might have to leave the pond outside even in the winter, so Ill need a heater for it >.> the expenses keep on adding up. The only reason I cannot get the pond right away is because of financial problems, I have other priorities before this and I havent been working for a long time so that I could focus on school instead. I'll prolly end up putting some multie fry for sale so keep an eye out or lemme know if your interested. Ill end up doing a DIY filter, and just curious but how many goldfish would I be able to put in the 50 and 100 gallon? Its possible that I'll trade in the fish for smaller fish if it grows too big. Thanks
  7. wow Jewels thats pretty impressive, not going to lie even with your description I dont know how you made it work. Congrats on your creativity!
  8. For posting pictures, I suggest using photobucket, just upload pictures onto it, and post the urls in here. Cant help with the spots though, sorry.
  9. Hmm more food for thought, Ill keep an eye out for them and if they are to my liking, sounds like a cheap easy idea. Thanks Hey Jvision, yeah I have thought about making a frame for the container if I went with rubbermaid, and lately that idea is more and more appealing as I can get a huge rubbermaid, enough for 2-3 small goldfish, for pretty cheap. And I have no clue how I would cut through a rain barrel but I am not really inclined to them as I dont like the way they look, I was hoping for a half barrel planter because I think they look pretty awesome, and just because I am looking for a cheap small pond, I dont think my parents would appreciate an eye sore in the back yard but thanks for the ideas! Exactly what I meant. Calgary Plastics Thanks for the link Kronosdelsol, rain barrels are just not what I am looking for as I think as a pond it would be an eye sore but I will look into it if nothing else seems viable. Just one question, how would I cut a rain barrel in half? Thanks again!
  10. I have thought about rubbermaid container that I can get from walmart or something but wouldnt it warp and I want to have this as more than just a temporary thing. Would it actually work? Ive heard that the container will warp and just break apart soon. I could look into rain barrels, they are cheap and everything but extremely tall and not as good looking as half barrels. But thanks
  11. As am I not allowed any more tanks into the house I had been thinking about container or tub ponds and not going to lie but am very surprised I got the green light for it, though there are requirements, it has to be on a budget and not too big. The size I want is at least a 10-20 gallon, of course bigger would be better but it will probably be too expensive. Does anyone know a place where I can get cheap half barrels? as I know a lot of people have small ponds in them and I like the look of them. I have never thought I would be able to have a pond and was unfamiliar with the idea of container ponds and now that I am allowed I dont know where to begin. What kind of filtration does it need? I dont know if Ill be able to attach a filter to it outside, so I'll prolly put a LOT of plants in them. The fish I want to put in them is my goldfish that I got from a fellow AA member but Im sure it would love to go to a bigger body of water even if its in a huge bucket. Wouldn't the goldfish eat the plants though? Ah I realize everything sounds all jumbled right now and I apologize but any help is accepted. Thanks
  12. LoL I think thats a great idea as most empty tanks are quite sad, if your ever in calgary and need some lemme know
  13. Thanks Kronosdelsol Its not a 20 long, its a 20 high but thanks, its really hard to keep this tank setup the way I want cuz if the fish dont like it they just change it themselves, I have to clean the front of the tank soon as thats where they piled up all the sand they dug out, theres 5 inches of sand blocking the view in some parts. Thanks again but my photography skills suck, this is the first time Ive had reasonable pictures which is why I put them up lol. I wish I could have gotten better pictures of the fry but my camera's zoom feature sucks. Yeah JLake, Ive gotten the shellie bug bad >.> Have thought multiple times about removing the mbuna from my 35 gallon and switching to fairy cichlids, ocellatus and multies lol. Thank you and yeah apart from the smallest fries dying off I haven't had any losses
  14. Thanks JLake! Hopefully when I get more time Ill post pictures of your black ocellatus, they re growing nicely
  15. My second biggest tank, the 20 gallon is now home to a colony of Multies. I first heard about this fish on this site by various members who were doing their best to help me find a dwarf cichlid that would be happy in a 10 gallon. It took over 6 months before I noticed fry as they were quite young when I first got them but once they started there was no stop. I started enjoying the colony more and more and when my 20 gallon tank was bombed by my mistakes and every fish in it except for one betta survived I decided to move the colony into a bigger tank so that they have more room to expand. Unfortunately there was a huge fry die off, but luckily the bigger fry survived. Due to my heater breaking the tank has been without one for the last month or so but I just put in a heater tonight. Even without the heater I noticed a small group tiny new fry in the tank so something must be going right. Right now there are 2 males from what I can tell, one Dominant and the one that has the other half of the tank, there are also 2 females, one big and one small, which makes it really odd that I think most the fry came from the small fry. Apart from the 4 adults there must be at least a dozen to 20 fry, some of the biggest ones have moved into their own shells and are big as mine were when I got them. A couple of the biggest ones have taken shells close to the second male which makes me think they are females and it will eventually lead to 2 small colonies. The Filtration of this tank is in the process of being changed, from an Aquaclear mini (apparently now known as Aquaclear 20) to an Aquaclear 200. Is that filtration good enough? Or do I need another upgrade? I have added tons of pictures, I never show off my tanks as normally they suck and this one is no different but the fish themselves deserve to be shown off. My photography skills also suck which is why I hesitate putting pictures up here but try to enjoy. Any questions, comments, or criticizes are welcome.
  16. Amazing pictures! Both your photography skills and your knowledge of wildlife species is impressive!
  17. Ahhh crap, I didnt know that, I just put in 5 juvenile guppies in the tank as soon as I read your comment, it was running all of last night with a couple of guppies in there which I had thought would be enough but I just added the last of them. Is it too late? did I already kill off the filter? I think tonight I will throw in the goldfish after taking out the guppies. I feel really stupid right now, but I really hope I didnt kill all the bacteria but I will throw in some feeders in there by wednesday/thursday as thats the earliest I can make a trip to pisces (2 unit tests wednesday) any input is appreciated Thanks so much Vallisneria!
  18. Thanks JLake but maybe Ill give it a week or two before adding just to be sure, I migh add some danios that can go into my other tank after their job is done, or feeder guppies but I dont think the cichlids would be big enough to eat them yet. Thanks Vallisneria, and from what I gathered I wouldnt be harming them since apparently the filter is pretty established already. I might add some feeder guppies anyways just to make sure. Thanks Jvision but no the filter has been in continuous use, it was used for my 20 gallon planted tank, and when that tank died, it was added as a 2nd filter for my 10 gallon multies tank, and then when I got a goldfish from a fellow AA member it was used for the goldfish tank along with a DIY Sponge filter. The filter is established I am pretty sure but I will give it a week or two anyways. I am going to be adding another filter as well pretty soon, just need to find the medium for it. Thanks, you answered a question that was in my head but seemed like a stupid question to post. Thanks again JLake and yeah so far all the advice I have gotten from Jvision has helped me in some way or another.
  19. The tank has been set up and an established filter is put in to help speed up the cycling, I had a couple more questions though, what should I use to cycle the tank? 2 thoughts came to mind, feeder guppies or goldfish? Feeder guppies so that the electric yellows will have a snack as well, though they are only 2.5" big so maybe they wont be able to eat the feeders but their fry will be dinner I am sure. Goldfish because the one in my 10 gallon wont mind staying in a bigger home for a couple of weeks. Thanks
  20. :welcome: to AA. Kijiji is a good place to look for Hardware, and AA is the best place to look for fish
  21. woah I had forgotten to "Watch this post" so I wasnt aware of the replies sorry lol and LOL I hope it doesnt happen to you either anglefins, just try not to fight over her jewelry and you'll be fine. I wonder if this girl thought the goldfish were on the same level as her jewelry by their name or what? You would think she world take something else like maybe the TV or Computer as collateral instead.
