  1. OH Ryan, you would sure make Lisa jelous of your Ob, she has been wanting one with blue on it for a long time! Your fish are beautiful! My burundi's mask goes right over the head, yours looks like his mascara is running in a bad way...LMAO... I think I have a map I saved here if you want to send me an e-mail I can send you a copy of the map, it has the different species and their color's on it... pretty neat anyway... shows the points of pick up along lake Tang. lbollers@guardianchem.ca Lana

  4. Hey Cichlid Grandma! Congrats on the new Fry! NLS Growth is a great product for those little guys... if you don't have any but do use other NLS products, just crush it between two spoons works well... from another newbie fry owner....hehe...my dolphins are doing good and growing...
  5. No he could not fit behind the heater, I will get him on the melafix, I was hoping it wasn't a fungus, because I had treated all those fish with Parasite Clear, and I think it helps with some fungus'... don't recall.... I know he is going to be a daddy soon, as my blue cobalt female is now holding and I seen him digging like crazy and doing the "dance" around her a couple times, but they were interupted but on the third day of trying to dance they must of succeeded because she is now holding... last time she only held for about ten days so don't think they were fertalized the last time, so hopefully this time they did it right...
  6. When we first saw it we thought it was a war wound, because it looked like missing scales and fleshy, I guess now it looks like a scab...in fish form...LMAO... kind of bumpy....
  7. I am not sure what this is, my guess is a fungus of sorts, currently my electric blue is in my hospital tank, still with pop eye, have now tried melafix and now trying parasite clear.... anyway onto the cobalt... I have attached a couple photos of him, could this be an injury or is my first assumption of it being a fungus more accurate?? We just did a water change, all levels are good, water changes have been done weekly and filter was just cleaned as well. No other fish have this at all, and he has had this now a few weeks, was hoping it would go away on it's own, but it is not... Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated... I should mention he is eating and swimming normally I just woke him up to take the photo, his fins are not clamped all behavior appears normal, just has that thing on his side....
  8. I think I would try to save with Boom's advise before terminating his existance... as you may always wonder what if....
  9. You have some fancy looking fish in your tank, and your tank looks wonderful....someday..... Lana

    Hello

Welcome to the group Lori, you will like it here, lots of excellent info...
  12. Welcome to AA, I agree your one fish is probably a female, their color can be a bit more drab. Would love to see photos if you can upload them... Lana
  13. Awesome setup Ryan, love everything about it, the fish the backgroud, the substrate, it all works extremely well together!
  14. I agree it looks like a borleyi to me as well. I first thought red empress, because his head is not as blue, but he had to much blue in the finage and looked an aweful lot like my guy, but my guy came to me in full color this guy is just getting his color in... so it makes it a bit more challenging.
  15. Are you moving the entire filtration system over or just the media? When I used the filter media, I just put it in the tank with the fish. You can also take the sponge from the filter and squeeze the "juice" into a new filter that will also help it establish faster, and it will leave the good bacteria on it so not to throw your other tank off... but with two filters you can use the media out of one and be perfectly fine.
  16. How many filters do you have on the 90gal? You should be fine using the filter media from the 90 gal without ill affects, as the ornaments, gravel etc will keep that tank balanced. If you are worried, just use stability in that take for a couple days... When I set up my big tank, everything was added right away, due to the seller of some fish being in a hurry and I had no where else to put them. I probably poured half a bottle of stability into the filter itself, then double dosed it for I think it was 7 days, I watched my levels and everything was good. Your tank will still cycle, however it will never get to the dangerous levels it could if you just put the fish in... If you are unfortable doing it this way you can fishless cycle, it does take longer to do though...
  17. Sorry I didn't explain "stability" I had no idea what it was either when I started, which was in June... so I am pretty new to the whole fish thing... I just happened to jump in with both feet and never looked back... so far we have six tanks... You will find the best products to use are the seachem products, you should have seachem Prime as well as stability on hand. Prime helps to elimenate the chlorine and chloramines from your tap water... not sure if you knew that so thought I should say this time...
  18. I know Lisa has purchased some, but don't think she has had the time to try and hatch them out... her e-mail is noblew@telusplanet.net if you want to talk to her about it.

    Hi

Welcome to AA, I used to work for the Town of Bruderheim. Nice community and for as small as it is, you all have some good programs going on there.
  20. You will probably be fine, just add lots of stability daily for several days, that will also help the tank estabilish itself. We did this with our 120 gal and it has never spiked... I used ornaments, water and established filter media to help with the cycling. We added 9 fronts and probably 8 dolphins and 2 deep water electra's... all are doing great.
  21. Your tank looks awesome Boom!!! When I set up my large tank, I did something similar put in lots of old filter media, and tons of stability, did this for a several days and never had a problem. Love the variety of fish you have too.
  22. nice trailers developing on the male! They have real nice coloration and strong bars, they look super nice, congrats on your new adventure...
  23. Congrats, you will have to send pictures!!!
  24. Welcome to AA Erin, You will like it here, lots of knowledgable fin fans here!
  25. You may want to invest in a dehumidifier, you can put it in the hallway or something... we just purchased one, for our room. Our room is small so we will be putting in on a timer, as we don't want it sucking the water out of the tank...LOL...
