  1. Thanks Betta. It's a hobby that comes and goes but I always seem to get stuck with it longer when it comes:)
  2. Do you have starfire? It looks good but expensive. Does anyone from edm know who can make one? cheaper than ada of course.
  3. Thanks Blake. Spruce...I got them at Big Al's Try checking ADA Seiryu stones and see if there is a difference:) I'll keep posting pics.
  4. I would go with the 6700K but go with 3 W per gallon. (in case you want to go with high lighted plants in the future) There is a Coralife light that will perfectly fit your 10 gallon. The bulb that goes with it is 28W. The 18000K might give you a bluish tone on the light. I tried using the 10000K on my tank but I did't like the way it looked as it was bluish. My 6700K was able to carpet HCs, Hairgrass, and was good with the Java Fern and mosses. But again, it's up to your taste.
  5. 2 - 7 days after setup. I've just planted the Hair Grass. Ph < 7. EI dosing. http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g342/LG_Aquadesign/DSCN4663.jpg http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g342/LG_Aquadesign/DSCN4665.jpg 2nd day after planting the hair grass. http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g342/LG_Aquadesign/DSCN4675.jpg http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g342/LG_Aquadesign/DSCN4683.jpg http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g342/LG_Aquadesign/DSCN4685.jpg http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g342/LG_Aquadesign/DSCN4687.jpg 7th day. Trimmed the hair grass and added Cherry Red and Ghost shrimps for long term algae control. http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g342/LG_Aquadesign/DSCN4689.jpg http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g342/LG_Aquadesign/DSCN4690.jpg Monitoring the hair grass growth. Seems to be doing alright.
  6. Jayba, It's made by Hagen. (All-Glass Euro Waterhome). You can buy it at PJ or Petcetera. The price is pretty good if you buy the tank only but they have been low in supply lately. For my next tank, Im planning to buy ADA or just have one made similar as the seams on the ADA tanks are superior.
  7. Thanks, Here's my first attempt to use photobucket. As per earlier pics, here is my current Iwagumi project and inspiration for it. Landscape picture was taken at Medicine Lake, Jasper, Alberta. Stay tuned. http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g342/LG_Aquadesign/DSCN4005.jpg http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g342/LG_Aquadesign/DSCN3999.jpg http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g342/LG_Aquadesign/DSCN3996.jpg http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g342/LG_Aquadesign/DSCN3995.jpg http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g342/LG_Aquadesign/DSCN4626.jpg http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g342/LG_Aquadesign/DSCN4633.jpg http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g342/LG_Aquadesign/DSCN4635.jpg http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g342/LG_Aquadesign/DSCN4636.jpg http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g342/LG_Aquadesign/DSCN4640.jpg http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g342/LG_Aquadesign/DSCN4646.jpg
  8. I had to compress my pictures as the site does not allow me to post bigger ones.
  9. Is there a difference between the Fluval Stratum and ADA New Amazonia? There seem very identical and both lower ph. I also had Eco Complete and Flourite Black sand. Flourite Black Sand and Eco Complete are very good substrates for HC.
  10. Your aquascape reminds me of 2 games I used to play: 1. Legend of Kage (NES) 2. Wizards and Warriors (NES) Climbing walls of the castle with trees around you. Tangayika Cichlids are nice. I used to have a few Duboisis, leleupis, frontosas, and julies. For some reason I could not breed them compared to Malawi cichs.
  11. Thanks Jay. I saw this add but wasn't sure if it was safe. How many weeks before you got it?
  12. Nice! You can probably turn your fishroom to a fishshop.
  13. I believe it was Ammano who came up with a "perfect layout ratio". He roughly suggests that you should have 1/3 of your tank full and 2/3 open space OR 1/3 open sPace and 2/3 full. Jason is right that Amano came up with a "perfect layout ratio" in the aquarium. They said ancient Greeks or Romans used this rule also in their art. Most digital cameras now have that feature to reflect the grid that form this rule of thirds.
  14. Does anyone have experience in buying Lilly pipes and Outflow glassware online? If so, which brand (other than ADa and Do Aqua) would be good and where to buy them?
  15. Looks like a picture from a fishbook. Great pic.

    Ada Brand

Thanks for the info. That's right. I'm actually ordering Aqua Soil from them and having it shipped over to Edmonton. Would anyone know how the Fluval Stratum compares to Aqua Soil New Amazonia ?
  17. Thanks. What type of plants do you have and how big is your tank? One thing that I noticed is to follow the Golden Rule or Rule of thirds.
  18. Cool. Have you thought about building aquarium and stands?
  19. Just posting pictures of my tanks.Just wondering if there are others who are interested in Nature Aquarium in Edmonton. These were my tanks from 2006 until 2011. The dryscape is the design for my upcoming Iwagumi Tank.

    Ada Brand

Other than the Do Aqua brand and Optiwhite tanks from Europe, are there other tanks that look similar to ADA that we can purchase in Edmonton? Does anyone know if we can buy the glass ADA uses and make our own?
  21. Jason, I have a single pressure manometer that used on a 90 gallon riccia tank years ago. I don't have the CO2 tank anymore and don't know where to get one. Im planning to use it again but my concerns are: 1. Where can but a CO2 tank that will fit it? 2. Will it accurately measure the ppm if its only a single pressure manometer? 3. Can solenoid valves be purchased in welding shops here in Edmonton as well? Basicaly, I'm looking for a complete pressurized Co2 system that will cost me less than $120 with an aluminum co2 tank for esthetic purposes. Leo
  22. Jerry, I was curious as to where you get your RO DI water. It this a unit that you purchased spcifically for aquarium or its a base unit under you sink? The reason why I'm asking is that I recently set up a 10 Gallon Iwagumi tank that has Hemianthus Callitriodes. The growth of the HC seems ok right now and the plants look good even only after a week of planting. The tank is being fed with Co2 yeast method with a ceramic glass diffusor so I can't really measure the exact ppm injected in the tank. I also checked the ph levels of the tank and it ranges from 7.5 to 7.8. BTW, the lighting of the tank is about 3 watts per gallon with a photoperiod of 8 hours. My concern is, that since Edmonton water has an average of 7.88 ph while the maximum requirements for HC is 7.5, I might not get the best results and high ph might eventually deteriorate the plant. Do you think is better to buy a pressurized system than to use ph buffers like Seachem? Leo
