  1. I want something that will take the attention off the other fish. I still only have a 30 gal cube and have yet to upgrade. Looking of mid water swimmers. Any ideas? Jason
  2. I was under the impression that Ruby red peacocks are a line bred species. Not a hybrid. I know the all yellow labs are though.
  3. The all yellow lab is very low quality, she looks like a M. estherae that is yellow in colour. She even has a couple black spots throughout her body. I'm sure the Lab is male. I really have no idea what they'll look like but I'm going to grow a few out thats forsure.
  4. Yeah, I saw them circling, and her dropping an picking up egss. The whole deal. Crazy, I think they'll look like OB peacocks. We'll see.
  5. My Red Peacock male & All yellow Lab female bred. So What do you think these will look like? I don't know why he bred with her there is 3 females of his species in the tank. And the male L. caeruleus tried to get involved, but with not luck. I think I'll grow them out to see what they are like. Why did they breed though? The L. caeruleus male is second in command of the tank, the Red Peacock is first. Dominance? I have no idea.
  6. I have a 30 gal cube (20.5 x 18.5 x21) with a trio of Yellow Labs (actually 1 male Yellow lab & 2 female hybrid all yellows) and a small group of German red peacocks. And I wanted to add a couple blue fish to diversify the colour. Any thoughts? Jason

I just got some NLS cichlid formula. And was wondering what I can expect? Will this make any real differance. Or is it just a "name craze?" My fish seem to like it but they like just about anything. So whats all the hype? Jason
  8. But where to get the Labs from, is another question. I have had a hard time finding any that aren't priced lower than $13. Other than at Wal Mart. So if anyone has any to sell let me know. Jason
  9. Either mbuna or peacocks. The last 2 times I bought fish from private sales they turned out to be hybrids, I just have no luck. And you really can't tell with juvies all the time. I like one of the peacocks (male German red) I have but that is the only one that I'm overly attached to. Just a tank that works and is happy. My large male Lab is running the show, he's took the female Met. estherae's eye and has my male Red peacock hiding most of the time. I am willing to buy, sell or TRADE, to get a more suitable tank. Anyhelp would be awesome. Jason
  10. So my total fish list is: 1 male Aulonocara sp. German Red (Rubescens) 3 male Lab caeruleus (4", 3", 2.5") 1 female Met. estherae (missing an eye) 3 Aulonocara sp HYBRID (1 male, 1 questionable maybe sub dom male, 1 female) 3 estherae fry >1" (female was holding when I bought her) And a change is coming Jason
  11. I have a 30 gal cube tank, with a bunch of mis matched fish. So my total fish list is: 1 male Aulonocara sp. German Red (Rubescens) 3 male Lab caeruleus (4", 3", 2.5") 1 female Met. estherae (missing an eye) 3 Aulonocara sp HYBRID (1 male, 1 questionable maybe sub dom male, 1 female) 3 estherae fry >1" (female was holding when I bought her) If I was to start the tank all over again what are your thoughts. I would want to get rid of most of the fish and get some that match better. Any ideas? Thanks Jason
  12. Where could I get quality female yellow labs? Not here in Edmonton, the prices are crazy. And I won't be in calgay anytime soon.
  13. Pure curiousity, nothing more. I have no intent on selling my fish. I have a GREAT looking Male electic yellow and am not willing to part with it. Any fry produced by this female will be hybrid as she is herself. But yaeh just curious.
  14. I am kinda sure the "all yellow Labs" are hybrids. A cross between a Lab Caeruleus (electric yellow), and a M. Estherae(red zebra). I may be wrong, feel free to comment. Jason
  15. Hey, I was just curious about all yellow labs? I just picked up a female (she was holding when I bought her), and wanted to add her to my tank that has a dominate Male Lab and a sub dominate All Yellow. Who will likely father her next batch? I know that they are hybrids and that isn't my point. I'm just here from the joy of it, not the profit or purist crusade. Thanks.
  16. African Fever, I looked again and stand by my first opinion. If you look at the mouth in the first pic, it is rather round for a Aulonocara ruby red. Mine looks nothing like this one, mine is shaped more like a Aulonocara stuartgranti. just my 2 cents.
  17. It looks like a Red Zebra x Red Peacock. Looks different, where did you get it?
  18. Do you think this killed my bio filter?
  19. The heater was "AVANT" in came in a 10 gal kit
  20. I HAD a 10 gal with a pair of Neo. Pulcher Daffodils. I said HAD because my heater crapped out and rasied the temp to 96. They were fine this moring at like 8 and dead by 10am. Oh and to top it off they had just laid more eggs yesterday. I lost 2 adults, 25+ 1/2" fry and however many eggs. What a great start to my day. Any one in Edmonton have any Pulcher or Brichardi for sale? What a loss. :boom:
  21. I would like to know where it is going. I did get them from a person on this forum. I paid $45 for 9 fish. Their size range from 2" to 2.5". They are in a tank with 6 Vic's (latifacita), and a 2.5" German Red. 5 females are orange and 2 are pink. There is a lot of rocks and hiding places. I just hope I didn't get the sh*tty end of the stick on this one.
  22. Why would a male Estherae turn, yellow? He is the king of the tank he sarted of blue then changed to yellow and still shows barring, water is good, and has 7 females. The non dominant male is blue with barring. I bought these as F1, I just don't get it. :well:
  23. I'm not really into Tangs, I have a pair of Neo. Pulcher. But I was thinking Malawi. Maybe a group of C. afra, or P. salousi, even a Lab of some kind. Or a small peacock group. The cookie cutter for a 20g on cichlid forum suggests 2 trios of small mbuna. Any suggestions?
  24. I was wondering what to put in it? Since it is an odd shape, I was hoping for suggestions. Tank setup measures 20 1/2 x 18 1/2 x 21 x1/2 ".
  25. They seem back to normal, breeding, swiming and guarding their fry. The fry are free swiming and adventurous. They are about a week or so old. I don't really know as I'm out of town and my wife is taking care of the fish. Just keeping you up to date. Later
