  1. The sale lasts for about a week. I only went on the 26th once and vowed never again, it is absolutely crazy in there. I now go in a couple days later and re-stock my water conditioners, etc, so if there is not a great deal that you feel won't last a few days, than I would wait.
  2. http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=21866 The subject is in the livestock section.
  3. There may be a bit of a mis-understanding with the AC. It is a powerhead with the filter attachment. I was thinking of a HOB, but I have a canopy on the top of my tank making access to the back a little difficult.
  4. I have a 180 gallon SA/CA tank with that will eventually grow out a few large fish. At the moment I am using an xp3, a chinese knock-off rated for 100 gallons, and a AC 70 powerhead/filter. After doing some research I am starting to think that this may not be enough. I have the xp3 loaded with foam and floss, and the knock-off is full of pot scrubbers. Should I put a third canister on this tank, and what media arrangement should it be? My only concern is that there is going to be alot of tubes in the tank with three canisters. I was thinking of maybe setting up a sump, but the tank is not drilled and I am absolutely clueless on how to do it. With my little bit of research it seems that setting up a overflow/sump in a non-drilled tank would be more expensive than getting another canister.
  5. I got one there as well, eating like a pig and growing like a weed. Should be interesting to see how big they get.
  6. I see two o-rings you may be referring to. There is the outer continuous square gasket. It seems pliable and unbroken, as I do not have a spare I have not tried to remove or do to much with it, just a wipe. There is an inner circle that has a single gasket made from a price of rubber looped to meet up with itself in a circle but not contiguous. I removed this, rolled it in my fingers looking for hard spots or hard water build ups, then installed it inverted. I did find the impeller shaft bearings seemed swollen and the shaft was no longer smooth. Since when I take the lid off and turn the top upside down water does come out around the electrical plug I am guessing I shuold look for new seals for that area. I took some pictures, butthe S.O. "put away" the card reader so I so not know where it is. How can it be put away if it has never been put there before. Your water problem in the lid is due to the o-rings on your quick disconnect. I had the same problem, changed the rings and all was good. http://rena-aquatics-outlet.planetrena.com...tlet-Parts.html Scroll down to the quick disconnect o-rings description and it will explain it there.
  7. I got the kirins at Big Al's. Iwas there a few weeks ago and they still had some. I do not have any pics of them right now, but just imagine a cross between a parrot and a flowerhorn, kinda goofy looking things.
  8. So it looks like I will be upgrading from a 90 to 180 gallon tank. I need some suggestions as to what else I can add to this mixture. Currently I have a JD, GT,Texas and a couple of kirin (all juvies). I also have some congo tetra's which are proving to be good dither fish. For a clean-up crew I have a couple of bristlenose pleco's and a couple of petrocola's. Please keep the suggestions to livestock that I can get locally and not have to pay a pile of cash to bring in, which always seems to be the case for the best looking fish
  9. I am thinking of turning my 90 gallon into a single species tank. I would like a good looking aggressive fish that could be housed in that sized tank. I was thinking of a pair of red terrors. Any suggestions??? I am just starting to research this so any input would be welcome.
  10. There are sure a lot of different directions I could go with this. My situation is that I have three kids and each one wants their own fish, so I am sure that I will have to find three fish that look different from each other . For now I put a couple of the standard 13w mini spiral lights in. They sure do light up the tank, but I don't think they would do much if I put any plants in.
  11. OK, the kids are starting to bug me to get their own fish. I have an empty 10 gallon tank that I can use but I am not sure what to put in there. I am looking for some suggestions for some fairly hardy fish. Also, what are some good lighting idea's. The tank currently has the incandecent hood and From what I can remember there are not alot of good quality bulbs that will show colors or grow any plants. Thanks
  12. A few months ago I planted a red lotus bulb. It was doing very well, producing a few decent sized leaves. Then the first shoot skyrocketed towards the surface and I stupidly let it go and open up on the top of the water. I only left it for a day before cutting it off, but now that is all the plant is doing, sending the shoots up. I cut them off when they start, but I am wondering if the plant is screwed up now or will it eventually start growing normal leaves again??
  13. Thanks, I will try the "bad haircut" look and see how it goes.
  14. I am kinda new to planted tanks and was just wondering how to prune vals. Mine have grown so high that they have come across the top of the tank and are coming down the front. Do I just clip them at the water surface, at the base or remove the whole plant?
  15. I have a couple of synodontis petricola's in my 90 gallon. I am thinking of adding some corys. Will they get along?
  16. Thanks, that clears things up
  17. Ok, I am confused. The rule for planted tanks is not to have any surface aggitation because it rids the water of co2, but do you not need the movement on the surface to create oxygen for the fish? I am not running a co2 system, just using the natural co2 from the fish. Not sure what to do???
  18. Do I need to rush and take it out or am I ok till I clean the filter? The carbon is about 2 weeks old, I heard that it is not effective after a few days.
  19. Dumb question of the day. Should I remove the carbon from the filter? I only put it in there to help with my tannin problem, but if it is removing the liquid fertilizer I am adding than that is no good either. Does it remove the fertilizer??

    Hello AA

    Fellow Grover here, :welcome:
  21. Has anyone had a problem with the BN pleco's eating plants? I have heard that they like to chew on sword type plants.
  22. Has anyone tried this? Is it the same or better than the seachem flourish?
  23. I have sand and I have tried to bury it, they always seem to dig it up.
  24. mine has been in the tank for a week and I can just start to see some white on the bottom that I am assuming is the start of roots. My fish seem to think it is a play toy because they keep moving it around the tank. :grr:
