  1. i was cleaning some tanks and found this. i have six wild caught red laser corys i have had them for almost a year. they are in a 20 gallon planted tank with some endlers, oto's, a couple small rainbow's and 3 peacock gobys this is a very healthy well ballanced tank, been setup for a long time. no new additions for at least 2 or 3 months. i netted the fish and touched the groth through the net and it was hard. i dont know how long it has been there, these fish always hide and i rarely see them i am quarintining it. should i be woried about the other fish? what if any medication is there for this thanks
  2. for the most part 1 gram is about 1ml that fertilator is very cool
  3. ok so i read it now and it says grams. how do i measure grams
  4. the pro soultion recipe sounds easier. http://ca.geocities.com/pps@rogers.com/PPS...s.Recipe.01.gif it says for 1 liter of water to put in 59 of k2s04. 59 what? 59ml? 59 grams?
  5. the pps system also involves multiple solution mixes. is there any type of system that involves 1 solution mix that i can make that doesnt involve making a new soultion every day? even once a week? even if i make two solutions, one for high light c02. and one for low light no c02
  6. that pps sounds a little easier and i like the part about water changes optional. also involves a lot more reading, and more questions. also a few more dry ferts i went out and bought some dry ferts. i got mono potasium phosphate kh2p04 potassium sulfate k2s04 potassium nitrate kn03 trace elements
  7. i have a few questions about this ei fertilizing system. i am going to try it out. i have been using regular bottled ferts from the pet store. i have about 10 planted tanks and only a few get regular fertalizing and onlhy a few have diy c02. for the most part they are medium to heavily planted tanks now for the questions, are these fert measuerments in dry powderd form? and do you dump it right in the tank or mix it into a little but of water first? can these measurments be reduced for lower light thanks with no c02? i copied and pasted the ei target ranges and it says the dh and kh are very low(at least by calgary standards) do i need to make any adjustments to allow for this? are these the only ferts i need to dose with? 100 - 125 Gallon Aquarium +/- 1 1/2 tsp KN03 3x a week +/- ½ tsp KH2P04 3x a week +/- ½ tsp K2S04 3x a week +/- ½ tsp (30ml) Trace 3x a week 50% weekly water change EI target ranges CO2 range 20-30 ppm NO3 range 5-30 ppm K+ range 10-30 ppm PO4 range 1.0-2.0 ppm Fe 0.2-0.5ppm or higher GH range 3-5 degrees ~ 50ppm or higher KH range 3-5
  8. dont pull it. the plant may have been shocked from being in the mail. are all of the swords doing the same thing? the temp does not need to be that high for the plants. are all the other plants ok?
  9. I have also had a hair algae break out. So I have been reducing the light from 16 hour too 6 hours as well as cutting the wpg in half. I thought that this would result in less o2. As well as the protien on the surface of the water reducing the o2 levels
  10. I have treated a planted tank with coppersafe before, I even used it as a snail removal. I removed the fish and tripled the coppersafe dose. Most plants were fine. They were all hardier plants though. In the 77 there is some plants I do not want to take the risk. Are synos scaleless fish. Will they be ok with coppersafe. I also have some methylene blue. I also had to remove my last male sword this morning. He was looking sick. With more white spots I will do the daily water changes for a while. And right now I am not concerned about the c02 levels. I just don't want to loose any of the expensive fish
  11. i have a 77 gallon medium/ heavily planted tank. i had 9 sword tails, 10-15 otocinclus algae eaters, 5 orange laser corys, 5 Synodontis petricola, 1 guppy, and about 20 sword babies about 1/2 inch. i recently added 3 new swords that all looked healthy, 1 died the next day and the other 2 followed soon. that was about two weeks ago. now i am down to 4 swords and 1 of the 4 does not look good he has white spots on him (it is not ich) the spots are bigger, they almost look like the scales are turning white. i lost my test kit so i don't know what the parameters are. i do a 30% water change every week or two if i forget. i have a eheim pro 2 canister filter a small power head to diffuse the co2. it is a diy co2 i am concerned about the corys and the synodontis. they appear healthy but i dont want to loose them. what can i do tonight i did a 50% water change and added a 70 aqua clear filter and put my spray bar on the eheim to agitate the water surface a little more i do have an empty tank or 2 that is setup and ready to go. should i remove the corys and synodontis, or the swords. or medicate in the 77 gal tank i am feeding frozen blood worms and i noticed today that there was a film on the water surface. there may have been an oxygen deficiency that has been contributing to this problem. the syno's and the oto's and the corys seem to be a little more active now as i am watching them any sugestions would be great thanks
  12. if you want more little ozelot's direct that runner back into the tank to keep it under water you will get more plants if it is under water than if you let it stay above
  13. what kind of light is it? you should open it up and fix the light. i just had a coralife that shorted out. i opened it up and found that it was just the connectors that melted and was touching the metal. i cut off old connectors and replaced and now the light is fine

  15. a live chat or something like that would be kinda handy, instead of sending msgs back and forth. could also help for fish emergencies get immediate responses. i know that the responses on the board are fast but if there was a follow up question it could go a lot faster just a thought
  16. Another update. the runner spike was about 5 feet long i tried to keep it mostly under water, it did not flower. At the end of the spike it had two plants that were joined together. i cut them off the spike and seperated the two plants with a knife and replanted in a different tank. the main plant has a new runner that i am letting it do what it wants. it is about two feet long and has lots of flower buds that are rising, it looks like they will flower. the spike has grown out past the light. i will wait and see what happens with this one. also, since i took the first picture in this tread the plant has probably doubled in size . it takes up more than half of the tank. And i thought the plant was big when i took the first picture. i will try and take another picture soon.
  17. at golds i asked for 1mm community type pellet. i dont know what kind exactly he looked up buty he said $80 for 5 lbs on line at big als canada they have a semi floating .8mm comunity food for $129 for 5lbs in the store at big als they had a community type 1mm 5lbs for $110
  18. i called golds aquarium looking for 5lb bucket of 1mm community pellets, but they were out and was not sure when more would be coming in. they said maybe 2 weeks. i went to another store they had some but it was $30 more per pail. that is quite a large price difference. is there anywhere i could order it from that is located in canada? thanks
  19. i just got 5 new betta's but one was shy and would not let me take his picture. he is a metalic color
  20. most of my orders took about 3 weeks to arrive. the leaves were removed for transport. the only time i had a problem was when they froze. but they reshipped and it was all good.
  21. i need to get some more nls food. i was thinking about getting a 5lb bucket of 1mm pellet for comunity fish. not sure what type yet. there was a few places i found that would ship but the were in the states and after shipping it would be cheaper to go to a store and get it. i would also like to get some decapsulated brine shrimp or golden pearls.
  22. i was also colecting my eggs from my gardneri's and putting them in peat in a ziploc bag they were in there for about 3 weeks and i put them in water a few days ago and a few hatched but i can only see one now. i had about 45 eggs in the peat and they have been in the water about 3 days
  23. i just got some killi eggs in the mail from thailand they took a month to get here but the hatch dates were still good, may 5 -12. i did not check to see how may eggs there were. i seen one for sure. i put them in a peanut butter container with tap water and just dumped the peat and eggs all in. it has been 24hours and there is at least 5 fry swiming around. so far so good. i did not even declorinate the water. i was just hoping the water would be declorinated by the time they hatched. i also ordered 3 other types of killis from karl in bc off of aquabid. they should be shipped soon.
