  1. Believe it or not - I rescued him from Petcetera. He was in a tiny plastic cup in about 2 inches of filthy water. I could not tell what kind of Betta he was because the cup he was in was so small he could not lift his fins. He looked different from all the other Bettas that were in Petcetera. I thought he was a pretty one so I bought him.
  2. here is a photo of my new Betta. I am not sure what kind he is. Anyone have a guess as to what he is. http://i408.photobucket.com/albums/pp162/s...photos/blue.jpg
  3. Really nice photographs. I love the close up!!! Well done.
  4. Thanks for the info. Now I know I am not the only one with this problem. I find it gross too. It was hard to believe they kill and eat each other. My seastars eat anything in the tank that they can get a hold of, but they have never bothered the hermit crabs. At first I thought it was the seastars killing the hermits until I saw the larger hermit crabs attacking the little ones. A couple of weeks ago I put some hair algae in the tank with the hermit crabs. They devoured it! So once or twice a week I am going to give them this treat. I had two tanks overgrown with the algae and when I was pulling it out I thought there must be a use for the stuff. And I am glad I tried it with the hermits because since I gave them the feast of algae they are not picking on each other. When I run out of hair algae I am going to try Java Moss. I like my hermit crabs - and I would like them to just get along! I have a bunch of extra shells for them. One day when my granddaughters came over for a visit I let them paint the little shells. They painted spots and stripes and smiley faces on the shells. When the shells were dry we put them in the tank with the hermit crabs. The next day there were 6 little hermits walking around with bright colored outfits. When my granddaughters come over they always check the hermits to see what outfit they are wearing that day.
  5. Awesome photos!!! Awesome little creatures too.
  6. Nice fishes! I am glad to see you rescued a pretty little betta from WalMart. I was in WalMart the other day and I was horrified to see the bettas living in a little cup with only an inch of water that was filthy dirty. I wish I could have rescued them all.
  7. Thank you Greg and Nick for your help showing me how to put photos on this site. I really like seeing all the fish pictures here. Now I can share some of my photos too. This is a photo of my Blue Honduran Red Point. http://i408.photobucket.com/albums/pp162/s...os/DSC_1594.jpg
  8. I had fruit flies in the fall because I brought in some of my delicate plants from my garden before freeze up. A few weeks later I noticed little fruit flies around my tanks. They are attracted to the bright light and water. I sometimes find them dead on the top of the water. But most of the time I think the fish eat them before I see them. To get rid of fruit flies I put up little yellow sticky papers that you get at plant stores. Golden Acres and Sunnyside has them. But maybe this time of year they might not be in stock. You just attach the little yellow papers to the green sticks that come in the package and put it in your plant pots. The bugs are attracted to the color yellow and they get stuck and die. It's like the fly paper idea. I also heard you can put a little dish of apple cider vinegar with a few drops of liquid dish soap in a small dish and set it near your plants or window and they are attracted to the smell of the vinegar and drown in it. I have not tried this method, the sticky papers works good for me. Good Luck.
  9. I put salt in my guppy tank and in my betta tanks. Then one day I decided to put a couple of corydoras in with my baby bettas 10 gal. tank. I heard cory's do not like salt so I did not add any more salt when I did water changes. Then my baby bettas started to look weird. Some turned dark almost black, some went pale. Their tail fins were stuck together and a few of the smaller ones died. I checked on-line and found out it was from having salt in the tank then removing it too quickly. So I slowly added salt back to the tank, and the cory's are doing fine and the bettas are getting better. That was a tough lesson.
  10. I have about 18 hermit crabs in my salt tank. They are getting big. But the two larger ones are really starting to pick on the smaller ones. I had over 20 of them and some recently went missing. I think the big ones are eating the little guys. Does anyone have any ideas on what to feed them to keep them satisfied so they will not eat each other. I feed them lots of flake food, and Crab bites sinking pellets. I feed them once and sometimes twice a day. One of the little crabs is missing some legs. Does anyone know if hermit crabs grow back new legs. http://i408.photobucket.com/albums/pp162/s...rettyhermit.jpg
  11. This is a photo of my Orange Tail Goodeid giving birth. You can see the baby tail sticking out. Hope the photo is clear enough to see it. http://i408.photobucket.com/albums/pp162/s...hotos/birth.jpg

  13. As it turned out he let this oyster go and went for a smaller one. The seastar pulls the oyster shell open, then its stomach comes out of its mouth and suckes out the oyster flesh and devoures it. Sounds disgusting eh. But it's actually pretty cool. One large oyster fills him up for a couple of days.

  18. I am trying to post a better photo of Green Eggs and Ram, I went through photobucket and did a copy/paste into the message box on this site, and then tried to Upload. But I waited, and waited for it to upload, it just will not go through. Does anyone have any ideas? I did a disk clean, and a defrag on my computer. Then I cleaned out my email files and deleted some old stuff in my favorites hoping to speed things up. But that did not work.
  19. There are eggs on the rock. I would like to post this photo full size but I got an error message saying - Upload failed. The file was larger than the available space. So I had to reduce the size. Is there a way I can post it full size?
