Gravel vac high enough above the sand to suck up the junk on top but not the sand

I've read of people putting as many as 6 bettas in a 10G as more betta = less aggression, especially with a heavily planted tank. If you like the betta, I'd probably stick with that.

Depending on the filtration, I don't think having a small colony of clean up guys would affect the bioload too much. Otos would probably work to remove some of the aphids too

could always start with a small cleanup crew or something instead of bettas right away. Pygmy cories or something

Welcome as well :welcome: also nice to see other fish fans attempting to survive university

I definitely agree with this, although more work to maintain water conditions in small tanks, it balances out as I find the smaller fish more attractive than the larger fish.

Other than big als the only place I've seen any was at a petsmart. I'm not sure about aquagiant, usually they get quite a few bettas but all I remember seeing are the fellas. I'm also in the hunt for a few, hoping to make a nice 20gal planted sorority at some point

I like Apistos, I'm sure a pair of them could work well in a 10, seeing as how most rams will work

At this point I'm thinking its more of a "looks" and simplicity issue. I may go with sponges/pump.

Would you think that Sponge filters would do that? I'd much rather have two sponges hiding in the back than a filter hanging off the side lol

I'm just about to start on revamping my 20gal long and turn it into a low light planted tank. I'm gonna be heading to get some nice sandblasting sand for the substrate, changing it over from my gravel and hopefully splitting and planting the nice Crypts I got from Ruadh. I'm just curious what kinda filtration I should be using. I've read that some low light planted tanks can self sustain, and I've currently got a HOB on there. Was also looking into maybe doing a pair of sponge filters to sit in the back to corners. Any suggestion as to what might work best?

Just found a decent website.... Biotopes

Just gotta watch that the Apistogramma Cacatuides are actually female too lol I've been reading quite a few stories of paired ones actually being two males, a proper male and a late-developing male

Makes you wonder why they jump through them Sorry dude

Thats one very active, colourful tank!

Lets hope so for your sake

Where would be the best place to go to in order to find a sheet of sponge I could cut to size? I'm hoping to fit some old unused filters and hopefully set up a few sponge filters

I've read quite a bit about using that sandblasting sand and it definitely seems to do just fine.

Thanks for the pleasant welcome

Sounds like the typical random pleco death encountered by everyone
