  1. hey guys I am thinking about having a breeding pair of convicts for my own feeders, I am just curious as to the minimum tank size for a breeding pair? thanks
  2. i would guess most likely male as well, just based on the face patterning the males usually have a lot more than females
  3. very good tip with the filter thank you! also RD thanks for that info as well thats really good to know i will add it each time, its not worth even the smallest risk to me to add untreated water..
  4. alright, thanks for the tips!
  5. I realize that these systems make it easier for dumping water by going directly to your sink or drain , but as for refilling your aquarium wouldnt you still have to use buckets due to the fact that you have to treat your tap water before it goes in your tank anyways? Obviously this still cuts down on the amount of work for draining and not running the buckets of water from the your washroom but its still not truly a 'bucket-free' system, or is there a way around this?
  6. thanks for the suggestions, I did end up going with Danios and they are working great and breaking up the dead space and adding activity to the top section
  7. i meant suggestions lol can you tell i was watching tv? ...thanks for the suggestion, I would like to have something that stays around the top though almost exclusively...if that exists doesnt even have to be schooling though i would prefet it , color and top swimming take presidence over that
  8. thanks for the suggestion however I am not a hatchet fish fan.. any other situations?!
  9. I picked up 6 Serpae Tetras today and wondering if anyone else has any experience with where they hang out in their own tanks, so far mine have been cruising the bottom and i wanted them to liven up the largely empty top space of the tank as well as add some color as my tank is very grey and tan-ish between the rocks and fish i had already.......perhaps theyll work their way to the top? also any suggestions on more top-dwelling fish would be appreaciated as well as it looks so dead right now, preferably a schooling fish.. any suggestions are welcome though

are you sure you have a male and female? are they already paired up? ...Sev's can be a bit hard to pair up , but if uve got an established pair then it shouldnt be too bad. U should get them their own space and not use dithers that are too aggressive as they arent overly aggressive themselves , also their own space makes them more likely to pair up as they dont have other options. Lots of water changes, variation and more food should hopefully help trigger it...
  12. alright thanks they just paired up anyways so hopefully they do there thing now over the next few weeks and i dont get stuck waiting 6 months for nothing
  13. I am trying to breed some Texas cichlids and I have read in several places that along with water changes varying and increasing the food supply will help a lot to trigger breeding and get the fish conditioned ....live foods have been heavily suggested as well, however I am not willing to risk introducing any unwanted pathogens nor am i in a position to grow my own worm cultures etc. Anyone have any suggestions on what to use, or even a known safe source of live food?
  14. any type of scrubbie in particular to use? I see many different types at the dollar store , will just ordinary plastic ones work? I thought i read somewhere that plastic isnt that good for the bacteria to grow on ? it was actually reffering to plastic vs. silk plants
  15. nice man, he's a beaut! whered u pick him up?!
  16. yea go easy on the runnin anyways until he has fully matured, shouldnt be too much longer as he is a small dog. That shelter is particular has a lot of puppymill /backyard breeder puppies come in ....so its not suprising he has never been walked , thats good that he's young though gives you more to work with, most important thing is good food, and tonnes of socializing let him meet as many ppl animals and scenarios as he possibly can while he's young and youll end up with a much better dog overall
  17. congrats on the new dog , im not a fish pro but i know a hella lot more about dogs so if u need any advice let me know
  18. Nice man!! his tail is crazy!! and tonnes of blue throughout..... nice shot ill have to come see him again soon
  19. I personally dont think there is any problem with it as long as the numbers in the wild arent affected. Regardless if they are wild caught or tank born they are still the exact same animal, so if they are taken care of in the proper environment there should be no differentiating between the two as to who deserves to be in a lake or a tank, they are both the same. With that said , if the capture process causes a lot of stress and death etc and the option to buy captive stock is availible thats the better way to go. If you dont believe wild caught should be in tanks, than you should feel the same about captive bred.
  20. he may be one who knows, but if you are talking about his head shape now appearing as though it has a notch in it like many parrots, that is not the case at all, its the male head bump comming out. He looks like a tex in every way except the short body of course. Its fine that he's not into hybrids , lots of people arent .. I love them, especially short body's .. ..everyone has the right to their own opinion , ..... i myself have no interest in oscars and find them to be borring and far too common, but that wont stop REDO from keeping and loving them, thanks for the compliment though.
  21. in the middle of moving, havent seen him all week, came home and noticed he is developing a bump on his head...Flowerhorn ppl call it "kok" its still little but i didnt really expect him to get one at all, hope it gets big!!
  22. i have seen this fish at AG north end last few weeks, doesnt seem overly healthy very lazy but still eating so hopefully he pulls through, its a drop off, i didnt know what he was but i found a pic of what he is or at least very close....same family... nice looking fish, anybody here know much about them?? compatibility , size etc? paratilapia sp marolambo
  23. yep they do its cool to watch them swarm the parents and develop from normal fish shape into disc shape too and of course feed off them very different
  24. i have no idea about discus or rays sorry, but i have to say if you could work out keeping the discus babies they are really cool to watch raise ...hopefully itll work out for ya!
