  1. Thanks! I think I actually have a trio (1m,2F). Im tempted to move them into a 20g rainbowfish growout and see what happens.
  2. About a year ago, a local fish friend decided to shut down a majority of his fish room, and gave me first crack at the fish that we're in there. Knowing I was in for a world of goodies, I immediately dropped everything and headed over to his place. I was rewarded with 4 species of plecos, one of them being a mysterious whiptail catfish I didn't recognize. I originally put the group into my 180 gallon display tank which was also housing a group of twig catfish, L204, L66 and a long L052. The fish didn't really thrive in this tank, probably due to the large population of catfish housed in there, and I eventually moved them to a different display tank. After the move, they would come out at feedings and we're overall more visible. I didn't think much of them, but decided I should probably try and figure out what they we're. I started a link originally in the catfish section and I will link this conversation for reference. Whiptail Catfish Id While I was in the process of getting them identified, they decided to spawn for me. This got my attention a little more focused on these fish. I researched as much as I could and with the help of a few international experts, we figured that these we're Rineloricaria Parva. The original batch of eggs ended up fungusing on me after I removed them from the display tank, however I did not despair. If breeding many species of fish over the years has taught me anything, its that if a fish spawned once, odds are they will keep doing it. Today, that theory was proven right when I came home at lunch to the pair laying eggs on the side glass. I have since pulled the eggs, they are sticky but dislodge easily with a razor blade. A quick hand movement and they pretty much flowed right into my awaiting fine mesh net. They are now in a bucket, with a high flow airstone and a heater, awaiting the approximately 5 days to hatch. I will update then, in the meantime, some more pictures of the parents.
  3. I lost most of the fry in the first two days, and then I increased the airflow to the sponge filter. I uuse powdered fry foods mixed together, and have been dusting the tank. They have been living in the 5 gallon tank for a week now and seem okay, although they don't hang out on the gravel at all. They mostly hang out near the top of the tank.
  4. I'm down to 4 fry, and they seem fairly healthy. I'm thinking I messed up by not having high enough flow in the tank, combined with not enough food (they didn't go after algea wafers or herbivore pellets). They also skipped the piece of lettuce I put in there.
  5. the last of them hatched today. Other than a few premature hatchers that have since passed away, I have a group of 20ish miniature copies of the parents with big bellies. I dropped an algea wafer in there for today, tonight ill go pick up some organic cucumber or something.
  6. I transferred the young tonight. here is a pic of a few farlowella stuck to the glass. they already look like miniatures of their parents.
  7. The black dots with tails are farlowella fry. Not all of the eggs have hatched yet. One fry that was born prematurely has passed. I don't know if you will be able to make them out, but Sterbai cory fry hatched last night and this morning as well.

    maybe they we're done spawning?
  9. I breed these killifish. If you want a bag to try, I'll sell you one.
  10. The male abandoned the eggs at the end of day 2. I used a razor blade and a fine mesh net to remove them from the tank, and placed them into a hatching bucket. I use 5 gallons home depot type buckets with an air stone and submersible heater preset at 78f. I used peroxide right away before placing the eggs in the water, by the next morning I could see eggs starting to fungus so I did a heavy dose of methylene blue. This morning, when I flashed a light into the bucket, over 20 eggs had larvae moving around within the eggs. Hopefully they hatch soon!!
  11. No plecos. I believe it was wound that went wrong. It started as the smallest blemish that won't heal... Here's hoping I get eggs. I did a water change this morning, on top of my weekly sunday water changes and she is perking up. Ill just change the water three times a week and add good foods till I get eggs. hopefully this will happen soon.
  12. I hope I see little ones as well. this is a first for me, and I assume the fish as well. fingers crossed.
  13. Hello Folks, I was given a few of these fish a while back when a fellow hobbyist was shutting his tank down. I lost afew members and was down to 2, 1 large male, and a small female. Today, I noticed the fish in the corner, I peaked around and saw this! I believe they are farlowella Gracillis, Twig Catfish. I will let you know if anything develops from this. And here I though I would have to buy a special cave (which is coming with the anfelfins group order) guess I was wrong. More updates to follow Vince
  14. No I don't do the BAP thing anymore. I just being overly careful since I don't know what it is.
  15. I've read the salt bath thing for rainbows. I find this interesting. I'm split at this point, I'm tempted to try and breed her quickly and euthanize.
  16. I don't think its columnaris... I doesn't look like the same thing.
  17. Its external. It started out quite small, almost like a bruise or something. Now the scales are falling off and its slowly growing. She is still eating, and in the next few days ill know if she is still spawning too....
