  1. Soooo, that would be the only problem? What about the balance of chemicals?
  2. I have come across a couple huge free bottles of liquid fertilizer that are 2-1-1. Should I mix this with anything so that I can use it in my planted 90 gallon? It would be a shame to not be able to use this stuff. Thanks for your help!
  3. Thanks for the input. Where can I find some for a good price? How are they visually, and are there any more colourful options that would fit the tank? Cheers.
  4. That is an odd question.......I've never thought about figuring out the max. I guess it depends on how much ground space there is. They need territories, and they stick to the bottom, so height will not do anything. If you have too much clutter in the tank it will take that room away, but you still need to provide barriers between territories. Then, I guess you could put in one of each kind after that, if you just wanted the most types. Personally, I think 50 individual different dwarf cichlid would be an odd site in one tank.
  5. I have a 90 gallon planted tank with peaceful community fish. Right now, cardinal tetras, rainbow sharks, plecos, siamese algae eaters, assassin snails. I love having "critters" in my tank such as shrimp, snails and muscles or clams. What kinds of shrimp could work in this set up? Vampire shrimp maybe? Does anyone have advice on keeping clams or muscles? If I can, I would love to keep some of these. Cheers!
  6. Always exciting to find that! Are those convicts? I can't seem to tell from the picture.
  7. The difficulty is that if you don't know what they are, they are most likely hybrids. I have seen those "blue cichlid" all over the place with all kinds of tiny variations. Basically, you will probably never be sure what they are, but mostly what they could be mixes of.
  8. Those are absolutely fantastic. You definitely have an eye for this sort of thing.
  9. I think you'd need some better pictures. From what I can see, it might just be a little scratch. I don't have experiences with external parasites though. Within a week or so, it should be healing up if it is indeed a scrape.
  10. Aren't those texas cichlids super agressive? Rams would be a bad choice as they are dwarfs and community tank type fish. Honestly, you could go with a million different types. Maybe you could take a look at the ones you like and ask if they work...... Anyone else have ideas?
  11. Hahaha, I have only been nibbled on by a curious cichlid before, and I thought THAT was startling. Wish I could have seen it.
  12. Sounds like Cyanobacteria to me. If you pick it out of the tank does it smell horrible? HUGE water change. Black out for 3 days. Like towels covering the tank so NO light gets in at all. HUGE water change. Repeat as needed. (Careful not to kill other plants with too many black outs). This sucker will come back time and time again unless you keep up your water changes. I just found some on a tiny part of my tank and I DO NOT want this taking over. I had a big problem with it in a planted tank of mine last spring and the stuff was terrible. Good luck!
  13. They still have Petcetera? All the calgary ones went out of business and sold everything for dirt cheap over a year ago. Edmonton?
  14. Yup, a bit far. Thanks for the offer though.

    Hello

Welcome to the forums. Sounds like a big project. I am in the midst of a 90 gallon planted tank right now. What types of plants and animals are you interested in?
  16. Haha, that was me buying them. Even though they are cheap, I really like snails.
  17. Post some pictures of the new arrivals!
  18. Thanks guys. I just read this and bolted downstairs to fix my mess. I moved the synodontis to the 70 gallon cichlid tank where they used to be. That was a little bit more expensive a meal than they are used to. I am hoping half the snails made it. Great, now I gotta decide if I want snails in my tank or I want my synodontis'............
  19. Anyone? I am worried to leave them in over night.
  20. My Synodontis are a 3 or 4 inches and they seem to be trying to get my assassin snails that I just picked up. ARE THEY GOING TO KILL THEM ALL?!?! I need to find out now so I can try to save them if need be.
  21. I've planted mine in all these ways: rocks, half way into substrate, wood. I've never had trouble with them ever. They seem to be super hardy plants to me.
  22. Great news. In the light of the moon last night we successfully moved the pleco. It's one heck of a pleco too. Very nice animal. The owner also tossed in 3 red tailed sharks which was very kind of him. We ended up emptying the tank down to just 10 gallons or so, then placing it on a large plank and carrying it to the truck and taking it slow home. I am happy to report that the pleco and sharks are all doing very well. Thanks for all your input. I really appreciate the members of this forum and their willingness to help.
  23. Thanks everyone for the advice. I am off to pick this guy up. We will see how it all goes.
  24. Well, it turns out that the owner of the pleco insists that the pleco be moved in the tank with some water in it as he believes that a pleco is better off in tank rather than a bin. I would like to pick this fish up, but should I try or is the danger too high that things will go wrong?
  25. So evolution, you think that double bagging is the way to go? Even if it will only be 30 minutes out of the tank? Would it not be ok with this method in the bin for that time? And no, I am not getting this fish from Harold. I should also add that the fish is staying in the original tank so the tank water is no problem. It is both a pleco and 30 (or 33?) long that I am moving.
