  1. I have re-siliconed several tanks now, and i learned a few things.... Remove all the silicone with a razor blade... then use rubbing alcohol and remove any residue in the corners,, u will feel the silicone left behind with a alcohol-wet finger.. make sure all seams are squeaky clean,, u gotta do sides and bottom if u wanna make usre it seals right,,, new silicone doesn't stick to old, so if u leave the bottom,, u will have a weak spot in the corners. I use black 100% silicone, I prefer black cause is doesn't show algae and doesn't stain. after all joints are clean and ready, mask off all seams.. make yourself a spacer the thickness you want,, eg 1/4" thick bead, I used a piece of wood I cut to 1/4",,, hold a razor blade against the space and use it to cut the tap so u get a perfect straight line and even thickness... then its easy, very quickly apply your bead of silicone,, I do the bottom first,, smooth it out with your finger,, don't push all the silicone out of the joint, u just need to smooth it out to look nice then run your 4 corner beads and smooth them out.. This should be all done as quick as possible,, silicone 'skins' over really quickly. shortly after, remove the tape. don't worry if u get some where u don't want it,, just scrape with a razor after it cures.. Leave the silicone to dry for several days,, if you can still smell vinegar, let it cure but more... its really not too hard and can turn an old looking tank with a sloppy silicone job into a nice new looking aquarium
  2. Already bought a new tank, planning on sellimg the other for a terarium,, what can that fetch?
  3. so my plan- i am going to use the 10mm glass 26''x 72'' , I will euro brace it along the top with 3'' strips and use 2 3'' glass strips from front to back placed at the top evenly placed, standard brace. That should be plenty strong right?? Weigh in please
  4. Whats a good price? I already removed the cracked piece, i don't wanna move it too much now Just an idea- I should be able to brace across the length of the back pane right in the middle and at the top,,, this will reduce the height of 'unsupported' glass. The 10 mm is free, and that price sounds good to me

  6. hey, i dunno how it happened but the rear pane on my 72'' x 26'' H x 18'' cracked and i have to replace it, i can get a 10mm pane for free, question is.... Will this be ok if braced well? The tank has 1/2'' glass everywhere else, which is recomended. the other option i am thinking about is laminating another piece to it.. I don't wanna spend 400 bux on a piece of glass when i paid half that for the whole tank.. Help please
  7. does wattage matter? how can u tell the light output of the bulb?
  8. duh,,, yeah, i'll do that, 4 bulbs then? enough? Depends on the fish and plants. Whata re you planning on keeping? I will be stocking with African Cichlids, lots of rock,, maybe a few hardy plants down the road,, I already have flourite sand substrate which will work for plants.

  10. i am planning on using 3 T8 10000K 48'' bulbs,,, will this we enough?
  11. mixing fish isn't always easy, but isn't a problem usually providing u do some research first,,, many cichlids share the same water requirements and are fine as long as nobody else in the tank looks like them.. i have no problem mixing lakes providing relative 'peace' is maintained Awesome thanks. I hope the RED EMPRESS YOU TRADED ME FOR IS DOING WELL, THE RUBY RED IS FINE NOW. HE WAS AT ONE POINT READY FOR THE BAR-B-Q! he was upset for a couple days but is great now.

  13. Be very careful in having demasoni and Peacocks! I find they don`t mix at all!!! The Demasoni are very aggressive and don`t make good play mates for Peacocks. if u like demasoni, try maingano, they are just as beautiful and very peaceful
