  1. Like it says, any info on Anentome helena? Snail eating snail I understand, but I only see it in Euro forums. Not imported into North America? Hope I'm wrong.
  2. He looks like he can't wait to be a menace! The rest of the pack in my tank I think are females. One has copied the couple with eggs and cleaned underneath a log and even placed eggs. They were gone the next day. And today there is eggs inside a 5 inch terracotta pot, same area. I thought this would be too confined for tapajos. Only other culprit could be bn plecos. But I think the eggs would be a cluster, not uniformly placed?
  3. Photobucket Pictures are a little iffy but the videos ok. Shows eggs on their favorite log. They own this 5 ft. tank so most of the redheads and threadfins are waiting on a 135 to cycle.
  4. After a work season short on tank attention, my F1 redhead tapajos got busy in spite of w/c consisting of treated tap water instead of their usual r.o. mixture. A 90 gallon with (I think ) 4 females and 1 male sharing space with a couple big bn's and some wild threadfins, ph 6.8 temp 80F. One night's w/c had me moving driftwood around to add sand that seems to get sucked up with the vacuum. I must have just missed disturbing eggs by a day or so because the next morning mom and dad both had their little herd of fry very close by in front of them. They guarded them extremely well for the first 10 days and I did rescue the last 1/2 dozen or so fry to add to a cherry shrimp tank. They're more than happy there until I set up a fry tank. And I see the same two parents are chewing eggs right now. I don't think it's been three weeks since the first batch. Delayed mouth brooders are so cool.
  5. ""that could end up a frozen mess"" Thanks for the reminder, I've been looking at the thermometer. Just anxious to see it in the tank....
  6. I'm going to bite the bullet and order from Singapore. I need some things from Aquariumplants.com but my email hasn't been answered and wow would I be pleased to pay for shipping for java moss.
  7. Ok, thanks for the input. I wanted to make sure it's scarce before I order some. And the link gives me another place to order, in stock too. Thanks again guys.
  8. I'd like to hear of other's experience with Vesicularia ferriei. How easy is it for maintanance, growth etc. And, can I find some this side of Singapore? Aquariumplants.com..."out of stock". Wanted to try something besides java moss. Thanks!
  9. http://aquariumrocks.biz/photoall.htm Here's a product close to it. I know of at least one member on S'toon's site that has purchased from here.
  10. I have 2 xp3's. Power has been out a couple times and they self-started. Nice configuration options (meaning spray bars etc). Quiet, move a lot of water and after two years I trust them not to leak.
  11. The 2 or 3 systems I compared, coupled with peoples responses (thank you) came out pretty close price wise so I decided to go with the Aquasafe. After you factor in a tds meter which is included with the typhoon 3 $$ is pretty close. So now I'm going to see if I can work in a float valve to the existing shut off valve or need to order the float with a new shut off. Directions on the aquasafe could have been a little more detailed but with the picture online it's easy as anything. I see the Aquasafe site doesn't advertise the aquarium unit anymore, just days after I ordered it.
  12. ""I get my ro units from http://www.airwaterice.com/. "" I like their stuff but I don't see where they ship north. Maybe I missed it.
  13. I'm ready to click the cursor over the "checkout" and order a 60gpd with a flush kit and a float valve for a 55 gal barrel. Can't do it until I hear some feedback from other's experiences with ro units, and what is recommended. Would the float valve and flush kit be worth it? I also get to Calgary a few times in the winter if someone was to drop a hint where some good R.O. filters are for my money. Thanks in advance.
  14. I know it's a done deal and sure it'll work great. When i went checking for GE 1200 series I found it's available in black, white or transluscent (not "clear" he stressed...) anyway, under $6.00 a tube from some "construction fastener" businesses. Sorry can't quote names for your area, but in Sask it seems readily available or a days shipping away.
  15. I have 5 f1 a little over 2 inches right now. Tank to themselves while they grow. Only see them come out to chase each other off or eat. Eating is second to a chance to take a poke at their closest neighbor. Not really what I was expecting from them this young, or even later.
