  1. I've seen a few posts regarding driftwood, just finding your own and buying it from a store. I'm looking for a I suppose medium sized piece to put in my 55g tank 18'' 18'' 40''. I've looked in petstores and it's either ugly, flat or boring. If it isn't any of those 3 it's usually sitting around 100$ Anyone know a good place with a decent selection here in the city or has a piece just sitting around they would be able to sell. I'm trying to get everything for my tank before I actually set it up. Thanks, J
  2. Haha, figured that moving part was a shot in the dark! Jason, I don't think it's 120gal - I'm thinking it's around 60gal - The dimensions are 18 width 18 height - 40 length I think I might of typo'd the 120gal for a grossly wrong 120 litres lol either way I was still very wrong. I measured the dimensions and plugged it into a calc and it is 56.1gal. I would definetly really appreciate the help with the planted tank, because I'm basically just taking a shot in the dark taking all the information that I have read online and trying to put it together and make something of it, because it seems every time I ask someone at the LFS they have no clue or no idea what i'm talking about. I was thinking when it comes time for this planted tank to happen, most likely after all the moving pains are compeltely sorted out (middle of July) to maybe upgrade to a canister filter? As for lighting I have a hud that's 36' w/ 3 - T5 6700k's also 39watts that is currently on order. So I guess if it's only a 56G - 120WPG that would make me sit a little above 2WPG. Jason do you have any good references/websites/books that you suggest I read about planted tanks - I have cruised through the articles in the forums section already and changed a few things but I guess I just need to learn from a pro
  3. hey thanks for the replies. I paid a little visit down to aqua giant, I like the place it's pretty sweet and inexpensive. I guess I did similar to what you guys suggested - I took the poly white and actually put it on top of all the cartridges then I put 2 with the cermanic rings and 2 with the carbon. I think that will be enough filtration in the tank - everything is running good and I'll cycle the tank and take some water testings in a day or 2 to see where I'm sitting. The 2nd powerhead I have unfortunetly the motor is burnt out I'm pretty sure that it's a write off unless anyone has any insight on whether I should try to repair it myself but I figure I'll just keep it around just incase I need a part or something. Do you guys think I should have 2 trays carbon?? How often should I change it monthly? This tank has 3 - 39w T5 bulbs I've taken my plants out of my 77g with just a single T8 bulb, (Just a test to see if I had enough for just simple Anubias, after 2 days of being in a photo period of 8 hours a day they look 120% better and living it's crazy what a little light can do I plan to turn it into a planted tank after I move in July (Who wants to help haha joking) Hopefully by then my CO2 supplies will be in and it will be smooth sailing!
  4. Here is the tank Carbon? How I plumbed it to the filters. Filter box/Material Sorry for the pics I took them with my Iphone.
  5. Again i'm reaching out to the Aquatica Community Cough cough (Jason) I've finally trouble shot my power/powerheads and plumbing for this in light canopy filtration system, now I've got 4 - approx 8'' by 7'' boxes where my water is being pumped into, how should I set up these filters i've got some sorta of white spongey material, that I'm assuming he was using for filtration in these boxes, he also gave me fluval clearmax bags and a tub of carbon I was thinking if I set up the material with the carbon on top with the bag of clearmax for a 3 layer. I'm not sure if that will do the trick or anything just taking a shot in the dark here of how i'm assuming he had it set up, I haven't done very much research into filtration. If anyone knows how I can better set this up I would appreciate it! I would have asked the guy all this before hand but I was trying to make outta there like a bandit. (While awaiting a reply i'm going to research into this filtration, try to find a better option/way) Thanks, Jordan
  6. Hmmmm - I plan to head down to aquagiant today! Thanks for the insight jason.
  7. I"ve got everything plumbed and working apart from the filtration system - 3 - 39w T5 bulbs 1 power head, 1 bubbler, I'm not too sure what's up with the 2nd power head. I'm not off the pump going into the filtration system is the down spout just like any other Hang on the back filter and there is another nozzle with a clear piece that goes horizontal into the tank would that be the water intake? or is the down pipe the intake this it totally backwards to me.
  8. Hey, I recently aquired a new aquarium - 120g it was sooo cheap that I couldn't pass it up considering the shape that it's in the guy wanted it gone gone asap! I've never seen this sort of filtration system on an tanks that I've ever had. The filter system is inside the light canopy in the back!?!?! I have all the plumbing and 2 power heads and I mean I got a truck load of stuff with this thing. Anyone have any idea how to set this thing up!? I know it's tough without pictures and I'll provide them if needed. Thanks,, Jordan
  9. lol hey the camera adds 10 pounds, I thought it was my girlfriend that only noticed. Hahaha, I mean what are GF's good for rather then telling us that we need to hit the gym. Love the updated pics!!
  10. Fantastic idea, I will jsut WC w/ my 77G to my Smaller tank when needed. Would you recommend daily or weekly? Also - Tahnks for the feeding advice I definetly went wrong there the first few times. Thanks,
  11. I appreciate the reply so quickly, yeah I have pellets and they do eat them so i'll stick with that, and exactly that was my thinking that the tank wouldn't get so dirty reducing the water changes. I also heard that they could be eating there fry because they arn't getting enough nutrients from the food. Also when should I try to start feeding my fry, when they become free swimming? Because the last time I tried feeding them while they were still wriggling and the parents moved there nest from me, which could be another reason they ate them. Thanks, Jordan
  12. Hey, So i've gone unsucessful once with trying to keep my convicts fry alive. They laid there eggs approx on may 22nd or 23rd, and today I noticed they've dropped and now are wriggling around. I was wondering if anyone has any tips and tricks to trying to keep these fry alive. I've tried to do alot of research on how to keep them but nothing has so far worked, now I know they will keep popin out babies so I'm not too worried if these die. How do you guys feel about WC's - 10% everyday or 20% every week I've read it's good I've read to not do any WC's. Also I'm just feeding my convicts on flake food which they seem to like, should I change there food to a cichlids pellet food? Anyways any feedback would be appreciated. (not like anyone wants convicts) Thanks, Jordan
  13. I just looked over everything you have done for this pond, looks fantasic!!!! I wish I had a yard to do something like this but I think i'll just stick to my tanks. I can't wait to see how the pond progresses through this summer!!!!
  14. Haha, I just had to show my girlfriend the pictures and told her I'm doing this in our house she laughed at me and walked away. Ps. Did anyone else see the reflection of you standing without a shirt!! Looks of things your should have kept the gym!! Totally kidding man couldn't resist!
  15. WOW!!!!!!!!! My Jaw Dropped when I scrolled through the pictures!! That is awesome, to make the money back from the cost of this tank you might wanna think of teaching scuba diving or something in your tank haha.. Very nice build I can't wait to see it's friendly inhabitants!!
  16. Tanker deals some plants? Also Thanks again I will be sure to send ya a PM when I'm all set up and ready!!
  17. Haha, I guess that makes alot of sense just running it through the hamster on the wheel up top is the hard part. I'll be posting the progress on the forums somewhere when I get all my stuff setup and tank going and I will be taking your advice with adding all the plants at the same time. I just need to keep my eyes open on the Vendor forums for someone dishing off some clippings or plants in general. I also have to pay a visit to natures corner in the days coming. Jason thanks alot for your input! Jordan
  18. Jason, Thanks for your words of wisdom I think i'm definetly going to have to invest in a powerhead, It seems by the way your explaining it that, that's the best means of getting co2 in my tank. I need to wait to build my lighting system and co2 before I start to flood my tank with plants. Sorry If you don't mind me asking what's the means behind filling the tank with plants, why is that beneficial rather then introducing a few at a time? Thanks, Jordan
  19. Hey, Welcome to the Forums, I'm new myself. I posted on your tank pictures and wondering what specs d oyou have on your moonlighting?
  20. The moon lights are definetly a selling feature, Seeing this definetly pushing me towards moonlighting! Very Very nice Tank!
  21. hey, I appreciate the feedback, correct me if i'm wrong about a powerhead. Basically it just helps diffuse the CO2 into the tank by breaking up the Co2 bubbles. Do you think that the ladder diffuser won't be enough?? What if I swapped the ladder diffuser for a glass diffuser I noticed that they pump out smaller bubbles which would be fine because I can guage my CO2 ppm through my bubble counter off my needle valve. Thanks, Jordam
  22. Hey everyone, I thought I would take a little time to introduce myself to the community. I'm relatively new into the fish hobby and though I'm new I've tried quite a few things. I've recently taken a fond interest into planted tanks and I am in the process of setting mine up as we speak. I know I will get the advice and knowledge to do anything in the hobby from this site with the many years of expirence of the many of you cruising this forum. 77G w/ 12inch Pleco 20G - Breeding Convicts (Ugh!!!) Thanks, Jordan
  23. Hey, I've recently joined the site thanks to a helpful Petsmart employee! I'm interested in Planted tanks, after having cichlids and being bored silly of the bare rocks and gravel I've decided to go Planted. I'm looking into making my own Pressurized CO2 I've researched for the last week and ordered some supplies and I've drawn up my plan and I think it will work I just want some feedback in someone who has a little more expirence then myself, or someone who has built one and already has gone through headaches on what works and what doesn't!!!! http://img22.imagesh...1990/co2diy.png Sorry, It wouldn't let me upload my pictures might be becasue I haven't posted enough. Anyways I hope someone can give me some feedback on my plans whether I have something wrong, or if you figure it might work out better a different way. I know there are alot of plans out there from CO2 DIY's I figured I'de problem solve with my own. Thanks, Jordan
