  1. check out the new atomic co2 diffusers from green leaf. They offer an inline version as well as in the tank...The price is not bad. By operating at a higher pressure...30 psi... they claim to use half the co2 as a standard glass diffuser with better results...I have read some reviews and people seem happy with the results but also say an upgrade on tubing is required..The standard silicon tubing pops off due to the high operating pressure. 2. is lighting above the tank the same?..same bulbs?
  3. My thought is that you purchase everything separate. You will get a better quality system and you may just save some money if you shop around.. Take your time researching regulators, solenoids, etc..I think with c02 you are after precision and the ease of adjustment .Im not saying the co2 packages are not good but I think there is better equipment out there with that in mind.
  4. mollies breed like crazy so get ready for an abundance of fry.
  5. Im pretty sure they grow better in cold water but they still are very slow growers.
  6. brewers yeast and champagne yeast is different... http://www.qsl.net/w...ria/diyco2.html read this...all about yeast
  7. the wpg rule doesn't really apply to all types of lighting and tank sizes...Light should be measured by a par meter but since most people dont have one of those expensive gadgets hanging around it could be tough to measure how much light your tank actually is getting... For instance a t5ho with reflectors even if you do the wpg thing is way off. 2 wpg of t5ho lighting is considered high light. So if your using t5ho lights try to stay under 2wpg or raise your light approx 8-12 inches above your tank to bring you closer to the low-med light category. and Vals will melt with excel..
  8. yes but light is only a small part of a planted tank. And the easiest to control... Many have proven even in low light setups most plants can be grown. The key to plants is balance. The problem is people thinks light means healthier plants but that couldn't be farther from the truth. The more light the harder the tank is to balance. Ferts are easy just following a dosing schedule, theres many out there. But c02 is tough with high light. Diy's are way to inconsistent for a high light setups so pressurized will be your only option. You can subsidize c02 with a carbon additive like excel but why bother if you dont have to. You mentioned you don't have a lot of time so i suggest going with a low to mid light setup. It will be way less work.
  9. don't use bakers yeast use champagne yeast..champagne yeast is tolerant of the highest alcohol levels and can produce as much as double what bakers yeast produces and at a lot more consistent rate.
  10. may i ask why you want a high light setup?
