I don't think adding a blue acara would be a good choice longterm,  It might work for a little bit when everything is young but between the bonded pair of apistos and the two honey gouramis they might end up fighting during spawning.

Like button must have been lost in the software update. I wish this place wasn't such a ghost town, A ton of people on FB could benefit from the knowledge hidden in this forum, Come learn some new stuff without everyone exploding because you might not be doing it their way.

My first thought is if you pull the spawning pair to a new tank it might take awhile before they get comfortable and back in to the swing of things, are you able to pull the Cory's to the 15 instead for a little while?

if your willing to wait for them to get comfortable in the 15, then some dithers id recommend if you can find some locally try some pencilfish they stay a little higher in the tank.

Well life has been pretty crazy lately, I found a little time to get a 100-110G stock tank from UFA and upgrade my endlers outside for the summer from the 50-55gallon bin they were in before.

I’ve just got a small heater to help at night, a sponge filter and a airstone. Lots of hornwort and water lettuce for the baby’s to hide in.

I got a inexpensive auto feeder from Aquarium central and tied a plant dome from the dollar store over it to protect from rain

I’ve got a 50 gallon ‘pond’ going outside this year, did a 100 gallon last year. Watch out for water Beatles I found one in my rain barrel yesterday. Probably about 1.5inch but it could easily kill my outdoor guppy’s.

Hey everyone, I used to frequent this forum way too much, it’s seems like yesterday I was buying out fish rooms and doing monthly Calgary trips…ahh the good old days.

Small air pump/power head running 24/7 if you want to age your water in barrels,

I suggest just doubling your dose of prime and doing your normal water changes,it takes up a lot less time and space

If you read the bottle of prime you can safely dose 4X the normal dose.....I have seen it dosed more than that with no real bad effects on the fish

This aquaponics system should grow wasabi really well in theory.

I was just reading about how they grow wasabi in Asia, two main ways well draining dirt and a lot of water.

Or they grow it in sandy gravelbeds that they flood with spring water

just give it a little rinse before use because its a little dusty.

For your growing bed I suggest looking for hydroton brand expanded clay,it's out of Germany(available at most grow shops)

It's my fav media,better than crushed lava rock(lava rock can cut/hurt the roots)

Hydroton is no longer shipping to North America,pretty soon you will only be able to buy hydrocorn brand clay

the hydroton is better uniformity and size of media

Do you think they will be enough of a bio load to keep the plants happy?

I found sunblaster t5 fixtures are affordable and work well,then for a extra boost I mix in a little led light as well.

I have found the LEDs are not necessary but add a little extra oomph

If you have a larger budget I would suggest a 250-400w metal halide(but you would need to instal cooling fans most likely)

if you want some goji berry seeds or a Passion flower vine Ill give you some seeds

I agree with superguppygirl,for your first tank I would check kijiji and this forum for a good deal.

And the bigger the tank the easier it is to maintain clean and healthy,I would suggest a20-55 gallon tank to learn with

Another suggestion I have is looking into Seachem prime,it's one of the best dechlorinators on the market

It takes out cholorine,chloamine,ammonia,and heavy metals

Last but not least

Read about the nitrogen cycle,how to cycle a fish tank,and if you want to gain everyone's respect early in this hobby,look into the fish-less cycle

I had the same issue,after months of healthy behaviour my old set of pea puffers refused to eat.

Are you keeping a lot of MTS and RRH snails in the tank with them?i used to throw all my pest snails in their tank,helps their teath

I used normal foods(pellets,flakes,frozen,and freeze dried)but soak them in pure garlic extract(available at most health stores)or just take some clean garlic cloves and crush them and use some of their juice.

Or if you have an extra air pump hatch some bbs I found they like to snack on live foods

Sorry this comment kind of belongs in the planted tank section of the forum,but here as we'll.

In my world the fish come first,the plants second,if the plants do well BONUS!

Technically speaking doing large water changes is taking food away from your plants,anyway you look at it unless your adding fertilizers when you do the W/C.Especially if your doing large water changes multiple times a week like you should with discus,wild tetras,and messy plecos.

I wouldn't be worried about the prime taking anything away from your plants,even with a once a week 50-70% waterchange not many plants will thrive because not much would build up in the water column weekly.

If worried about plants when it comes to dechlorinater,buy Some Seachem prime or safe and take your savings and get some highly concentrated dry fertilizers from a garden centre.

That way you can do as many water changes you want,and still have healthy plants because the dry fertilizers and seachem products are so cheep

I re-read your post,you are doing a central water and air system

Hatch rate for bbs is on the package.

The first day or two,the fry won't need food,they will be absorbing their egg sac.

After they absorbed their egg sac,you could try powder or golden pearls.

I have no experience with barbs,but my apistogramma fry could eat the bbs no problem after they got rid of their egg sac

baby brine shrimp,buy some eggs from a fish store and hatch them in brackish water in a 2l bottle with a air pump.

I suggest trying to find 90% hatch rate or better if you can.

If you think raising the bbs is too hard,contact FairDeal in Calgary he can sell you some golden pearls

It's a powder food designed specifically for fry.

Another route you can do is buy a $8 coffee grinder from Walmart and make a mix of all your fish foods and grind them into a powder.

Either way be prepared to do some extra water changes,I found feeding fry powders makes your tank dirty quick.

Yep it must be the fluval nano,like I said its really small.

I like them because they seem to have decent suction cups and they are accurate

I'm with dragonneko on this one, I never found the strip thermometers very accurate

I buy the nano brand aquarium thermometers from aquarium central for like $1.79 each,They are by far the smallest not noticeable thermometer I can find.

they are accurate,but they are in Celsius not Fahrenheit I found this weird because most aquarium equipment is in F.

I'm overkill with my thermometers,because I'm heating my fish room and not my tanks,well I'm using heaters in some bigger tanks.

Any tank 2ft or larger gets two thermometers one on each side of the tank
