  1. I bet I know the chain you're talking about, the gf bought a dwarf aquatic frog last week, and we had to sign a waiver about being a responsible pet owner before they could sell it to us...
  2. yeah, canada post, that seems to be the trend with them now, seeings as they want to end door to door service, and go to community boxes, I've been waiting for packages before, home all day, (im in a basement suite) window open, never even hear them, and I ask my neighbour upstairs who was home at the time, door wide open, mail person never even attempted to deliver, just left a notice card. Its understandable if they were like that on their old system- if they finished early, they left, and were paid a full day, but in their overhaul a year ago, they changed it, you had to work an 8hr day, if you finished early, they find you something else to do... and I really dont get why they dont even try to deliver, when I watch my mail person park their postie car at the end of the street
  3. It's a keyhole cichlid, I've got a pair in there, they max out @6", and are a more peaceful cichlid, and these 2 I have seem to be slow growers, I got all these guys within the same time, and roughly the same size, and they've barely grown, where the other guys are growing big and fast
  4. got all moved and pretty much settled in now, at least the tank is all settled, I shut down the 45, but still have the 90, and here's some pics I took this morning after water change dont mind the straps, I broke the center brace when moving, so using them to keep it from bowing until I can fully fix it the biggest rainbow A T-Bar I picked up in feb a big group hiding under some wood my synspilum, he's growing fast
  5. looks great, will be awesome to see pics once its up and running and like jayba said, I would ditch the white pallets, they wont hold it up, I can snap them just standing on it ( 200lbs)
  6. Visited Fairdeal on monday, and picked up some new friends An L091 and an L239 and here they are just frolicking around and the big rainbow jumped into that pic :P
  7. not too much going on, made some clay pot caves, added them to the 90 and 45, and pulled one of the driftwood's out of the 45 and put it in the 90 the 90 and the 45 .. but I did a water change last week, and the temp must have spiked a little too high (even though I adjust the temp before I fill) and have an ich outbreak in the 45 right now, and I lost my leopard frog pleco
  8. yeah, like they said, the standard pvc glue is safe, as long as you let it fully cure before you put the finished product into use
  9. yeah, I love the cichlids, they become a decent size, and are awesome, I'll get some more pics over the next few days as they settle in
  10. well, I picked up some black krylon fusion, and painted my diy spraybar, then had it filled up and running for the last week, seeded it with media from my established 45g, got the temp all stabilized, and went out and got some additions for it today, I picked out 4 rainbow cichlids, the gf picked out 2 convicts ( might get crazy) but ended up with 5.., and she snuck in 2 jewel cichlids as well, I didnt notice them until we got home, as we had picked up some tetra's and gourami's for the 45g not much has been done for aquascaping yet, had some extra rocks kicking around, and some small pots from the gf's 10g, waiting to find some more driftwood, to put into the 45 so I can take my nice pieces out from there and put them in the 90, and add my pleco's in a few weeks the gf's 45g
  11. after selling off my 60 in the fall, I missed having a larger tank, so, last week, I picked up a used 90g from a member on here, and just got it filled up today. here's a pic at the start of fill up .. and I managed to find a great deal, brand new and 260$, petsmart sale, but right now I'm not sure if I want to stick with the stock output nozzle, or use the spray bar I made for my doomed 120g last year as for stocking, not too sure what way I want to go yet, would like to go with some midsized fish, as it stands now, the only fish that will come over from my current 45g will be some pleco's :P
  12. I already sold it off as a terarium, got more than I originally paid for it too , for now I'll just stick to my 60g and the gf's 45 bowfront
  13. DISASTER so after picking up a level today, and making sure that the tank was spot on level, I start filling it up, get it full, no more than 10 minutes after being topped off, I hear ~crack~ the back left corner cracked and now leaking out, Ive got hoses draining it as fast as I can to limit the water that's leaking :( so is this repairable, or is it scrap now? heres a better pic now that the water is all drained on the lighter side, I did drill out the spray bar I made, I liked the flow coming out of it, I drilled 20- 3/32 holes

    Filters

if you can wait 2ish weeks, I picked up a 'sun sun/perfect' brand filter off ebay, its the same as the marineland, I chose the one with a built in uv, it was 120 shipped, or you can get the one without uv, that one is @20$ cheaper I've been running it for 1 month, no problems, and reading up on them online, I have seen very little complaints, the only real complaints I've seen is people's fear of 'made in china/ chinese brand name'but nothing really about its functionality
  15. and especially when I'm going from 48x16 to 72x19 for groundspace to work with, lots of room to make caves, ect this is why I cant wait for morning, so I can pick up the stuff I didnt get today, so that I can hopefully fill it tomorrow, then I just need my heater to come in ( another ebay trial)
  16. the sun sun/perfect one I`ve got running, it`s been going for almost a month now, no problems on the 60g this new odyssea, not running yet, as I need to level and fill the tank ( tomorrow forgot to pick up a level at Rona, and didnt pick up saw, ect from my mom`s today
  17. In reguards to stocking, my 60 will be moving into here, so there will be: 1 L134 1 L076 2 L052 2 panda cories 7 apisto's ( 2x caucatoides, 2x Panduro, 2x eunotus, 1x trifasciata) 1 firemouth 8 Frankeii tetra's there's a bunch of mts snails in there now, I'll try and sift some out to transfer over as well to add to the stock, I'll be looking into some more nice pleco's, more different apisto's ( I'm really trying to find Barlowi's/ Maulbruters, a mouth brooding apisto) for filtration, my 'perfect/sun sun/ marineland' filter I received 3 weeks ago will be going on, as well as an odyssea cfs500 I just received the other day ( similar to a fluval fx5) lighting for now will be the 48`` currentusa power compact fixture I got for free 2 weeks ago and the blue led strip light for nighttime so here is a pic of the odyssea cfs500 and I made my own spray bar for it today I still have to drill the holes for it, but my plan is to have it along the left side wall of the tank, shooting straight across the whole length of the tank. both filters have spray bars, and both will be on the left wall, this one will be 1/3 of the way down, and the other filter`s bar sits close to the water level I also have enough pipe and bits to make another 2 bars if anyone is interested
  18. finally got a pic of my gf's 45 its @ 1.5 months old, fluval C4 hob, and a 205 on it, but once my 120 is going, these guys will be taking over my 60, and this will be up for sale and the breeding trap floating around there has 2 baby guppies in it :P
  19. so, as it was my birthday last week, I had found a great deal on kijiji just before, and picked myself up a 120gallon as a present to myself. I stored it in my moms' garage for the last 2 weeks while I figured out where to locate it in my place, as my fish room is also my bedroom ( warmest room, so heaters dont have to work crazy) so after some rearranging, I had it set, and brought it home tonight after I finnished work ( I cheated and left early, had a coworker help me) so now she's set, put a little bit of water in her, gotta give her a clean, then make sure she's all good and level, and make a simple cover for now to hold the light fixture and what I will see when I go to sleep/ wake up .. I know its under the window, but I've got it insulated and covered up, I work nights so I need it dark during the day, and the thermometer there reads @25* celsius the gf's 45 bowfront is just to the left, but that'll be closed down and put up for sale once the move is all done
  20. wow, that looks awesome, esp with the rummynose's runnimg around
  21. http://www.garf.org/tank/BuildTank.asp this is the link you want, it will give you all the info you need
  22. I use playsand in my tanks, both are planted, and I dont have any issues with it
  23. Wetspot ships to US only it says, but there is another guy from Oregon who says he ships to Canada, I believe his username is apistodave, but he doesn't have any up right now
  24. Hey guys, yesterday I picked up a 48" current USA power compact light fixture for my new 120g ( price was free, works good, no complaints) My question is, reading the manual online, it says to place it on/above a glass top. Now my thing is, I was planning to fabricate a canopy out of wood, and fasten the fixture within it, keeping it reasonably above the water, would this be good, or should I just go for the glass top? I want a cover on the tank to help keep evaporation somewhat slow ( even though I do w/c's once or twice a week) and to minimize light bleeding out to the rest of the room ( I want to keep the light aimed within the tank, rather than trying to help light the room)
  25. my main goal of keeping as much original water as possible is for the temp factor, I try and refill as close to temp when I do water changes, but this will be a big one. I'm placing it where the current one is as thats the only place it has room to fit. I'm switching over both my filters on to it, wont be cleaning them out, just will add some carbon to one of the filters.
