  1. I've had one for a while, id call it low light in my 18" tall tank. Seems to grow swords and moss ok but my dwarf hairgrass had no chance.
  2. I've got CPDs, white clouds, a lone endler and a bolivian ram in with mine with no evidence of predation and my numbers aren't dropping overnight.
  3. How tall is a 30 tall? Is it a T5 high output fixture?
  4. Photos? Brand or website info?
  5. I had a dario dario who stopped eating fish food and ate only cherries, to the point that when I removed the cherries and tried to wean him back onto processed food he didn't make the transition and died. I've never seen my Galaxies, my white clouds or my bolivian ram bother the shrimp but I'm sure it's possible that any of them could when I'm not looking.
  6. Honestly the only good way I can think of is draining the tank and gluing the background back in with aquarium silicone. Anything that can shift or move and release the background is just asking for trouble IMO.
  7. I'd like to mention something before you get too far along with this tank, take the styrofoam background out!! http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/386036-fluval-flora-disaster/ Not mine, but I've heard of this happening a bunch of times. My fiancee and I have got an ebi as well and I love it, it's a really nice size.
  8. Air bubble/cavitation? give the canister a gentle shake while running and if it helps that's probably the culprit. It could also be a broken or damaged impeller.
  9. I had a zoo-med 501 and tried using it in a 12 gallon Edge. It didn't work for me and was a real pain to set up but that was due to how I wanted to hide it, the filter itself seemed fine and appeared to move enough water to keep things happy
  10. OxyPro on 53 Ave..Are these the only guys in town. New regulator..no leaks evident on a soap test Try praxair, linde, air liquide, advanced industrial supply. I'll probably be going to ais as that's where my employer gets our gas. Will post on my experiences.
  11. I just dont understand why youd euthanize your beloved pet just because they're thinking about a ban, if the government moves with typical efficiency it'll either never happen or it'll take a few years.
  12. I haven't used a 5lb but I'd say you have a pretty serious leak if you only got 8 days put of it, every account I've read says a 5lb should be at least a month. Do you mind mentioning where you got your tank, they sound like a place I'd like to avoid lol
  13. My fiancee went from basically zero salt water knowledge to having an attractive, healthy salt water tank in not very many months. We learned a couple hard lessons along the way (don't buy fish which aren't quarantined unless you're going to quarantine them at home) and we learned a few easy ones by asking people how they did it, there have been a few stores which have been particularly helpful, feel free to PM if you'd like to know who.
  14. Already tried a few days back and had no response, as far as I know they don't directly sell to Canadians so I'm not sure if that would extend to Canadian shops.
  15. I've been eyeing up some Finnex products and Family Pet in Sherwood park seemed to be the only place bringing any of their product in but now that they're out of business I'm wondering if anyone else is bringing in Finnex or Schuber-Wright products?
  16. I've got a diffuser just like that, Boyu brand and it's got a hole internally so the CO2 doesn't go up the spiral, the quality seems kind of flakey and junky but it still works fine as a diffuser. I picked it up at Aquagiant for about $10, but I know that Aquarium Central offers something similar for a couple bucks more. Maxwell, I've heard good things about the Fluval diffuser, plus they're cheap as heck and replacement ceramic media is available: http://ca-en.hagen.c...pplements/A7548 You can also look at doing an inline diffuser, something like this: http://greenleafaqua...iffuser-12.html Or you can go with an inline reactor, either like this: http://www.plantedta...o2-reactor.html or like this: http://www.rexgrigg....diy-reactor.htm Reactors will give more complete dissolution of CO2 into the water without the misty spray of bubbles that an inline diffuser can cause. I'm just getting my CO2 up and running but I've been reading all I can about it for a few months now so I'm just all chock full of knowledges!
  17. I've actually seen the Milwaukee locally for $100 but can't recall where. I'm trying to find a good welding type reg in town but all my sources are dried up. Thought I'd give the princess one a try if I can't source something by the weekend, after all for a basic co2 a reg is a reg is a reg if I believe everything I've read. Mostly I'm trying to save money on the regulator so I can justify getting a real nice needle valve n still stay under budget.
  18. Princess auto has their CO2/Argon regulators on sale for half price and I'm thinking about buying one because the paintball thing just ain't working out quite how I'd hoped. Does anyone have any experience with them? Are they ok or should I keep looking around for a used matheson or victor?

    Fluval Filters

Never used one but take the media refill cost and frequency into consideration, the refills are $30 locally in Edmonton
  20. I love and hate Lee Valley, very dangerous to go there on payday, in fact I may already have been banned from shopping without the missus coming along to supervise.
  21. Some kind of rainbowfish? I would email the photos to yourself (hotmail or gmail or whatever) from your phone, then upload them to tinypic.com
  22. I don't really know how much they charge, but my fiancee started her salt tank this past winter and although she has made a couple mistakes nothing serious has happened. Aside from getting velvet coming in on a new fish and it killing off all the fish... fortunately we took some good advice and bought cheap starter fish so we were only out about $45. Basically what I'm trying to say is that it's not that hard as long as you read and research it and if you begin with a minimal livestock investment even the mistakes you do make (and you are going to make some) aren't going to destroy your wallet.
  23. Thanks for mentioning it Revolution, but my tank is only 18x20" footprint so a 36" would overhang by a couple inches
  24. Sprucegruve, if no one else is interested in that light I'd like to pick it up, I've got a plan to retrofit 3 watt leds and if i can get a housing cheap it'd make it a lot easier to justify nodding. Pm me a price or perhaps a trade?
