  1. Missing my Betta baby

  2. Corydoras are foodies, they clean up the extra food. The algae wafers won't hurt them but they like any other fish prefer and benefit from a variety of foods. Krill, Tubefix worms, Blood worms, lettuce, spinach, peas as the occasional treat . May I suggest switching to NLS (New Life Spectrum) food pellets. It will feed both your Betta and Corys with better nutrition (more pure food, less filler than Topfin). Depending on the size of your tank you can do the 1 fish per gallon, although I would recommend 2G for the Betta. You could even add another kind of Corys to the tank as they will "school" together with the exception of the Albino Corys as they are speciests. Good luck and enjoy your beautiful tank.
  3. No worries Fishnerd. Everyone's thoughts matter. It not that he's catching them for his own use (i.e. his own tanks) it's he's just fishing for them specifically. They are small fish and the stress giving to the fish is unnecessary for sport. Larger fish can handle it better than tiny. I should mention this is not the only article I have found on micro-fishing. Many stated that micro fishing was the excuse given by those poaching protected species when caught. It just seems a useless sport to me. I look at the damage that can be render to tiny fish b y the equipment, they are not restrained by the barbless hooks like is mandatory for "regular sized" fish. Also if you look at what happened with the "reg." fishing industry and the damage done by the uncaring. So many lost habitats and species. Sorry if I have offended but I know that if anyone dropped a hook and line into one of my tanks, I'd bust heads.
  4. Found this article online. Seems sad since I know it's suppose to be a catch and release we know that this doesn't happen as often as it should. People will eat fish of any size or they selling them to some unscrupulous LFS's since they're catching protected wild species as well. This fish are being caught not for commercial reasons but for sport???? These are tiny fish and even though most of them are wild they are being stressed for a ridiculous reason in my opinion. Don't get me wrong I am a fisherwoman but this just takes it to a whole new level of stupid. http://micro-fishing.com/
  5. Euripides I can understand on that E.B Ram. Possible thought do what I did, find another fish enthusiast in your family & friend circle and drop hints that for a birthday, special occasion, if you love me you'll.......gift. LOL. This is how I hope to get a few.
  6. Excellent posts. These are definitely a under appreciated fish being outshone by their bigger cousins. I love the flashing they do and their playful natures.
  7. Ammonia, PH, Nitrate spike, too much light. He could be cold as they do well in room temperature water, stress from over/under cleaning tank or even tannins from the wood. Due a 40% WC, shake the water conditioner, etc. really well and add a touch of salt with the temperature boosted up 2 degrees from your normal settings slowly. Good luck he's a beautiful fish.
  8. LOL neat. They're are the same things used for media just a touch coarser but work great. Glad your enjoying the ideas.
  9. Plants didn't think of that. That would give good O2 levels. Definitely will be putting up some pics and a definitive sizing on it. interesting ideas everyone, thanks.
  10. CRAFTING MESH. (from Walmart) Cheap and easy, No not me LOL. I have been experimenting again with this lovely stuff. It comes in 2 sizes and is easy to manipulate. I made a tank divider for my 60G column tank with it. 2 mini suction cups with S hooks on them, cut mesh to dimensions of tank and viola. Sturdy cheap and all under $4.00. The mesh allows easy airflow between 2 sections. I use this set up in the 60G to separate m/f guppies and to separate them from their fry. Another cheap use is breeding tanks. Make the size you need or multiples all under $4.00. Easy Peasy! Cut dimensions/size you want to make a box. With a needle and thread (heavy gauge white cotton thread or fishing line/plastic thread, available everywhere) sew box together by threading thread through the mesh or a fancy stitch if your that handy with thread. NOTE: Don't use colored thread as the color leaches into water. You can have the box resting at the bottom of your nursery tank or hang it off the side with some mini S suction cup hooks.
  11. Sorry for the 2 wrong answers. I have got to stop using aqua-fish.net they seem to mixed up in alot of stuff. I wish you luck these are a tough one.
  12. Yes a bigger, flank shot would be fantastic. One sure way to tell if they are the P. Assimilis (S.I. Barbs) is to check for maxillary barbels. If it has it then it for sure, from what I can find on the web. Good luck.
  13. They're vetted at being a 1.5 - 2G Betta bowl. Haven't gotten them yet (being delivered in a week) so unsure of size. Wanted some interesting set up but worry about levels in something that small, hence the bubbler idea to keep water moving.
  14. Your right, bigger spots. hmm possibly could be a C. Leucomelas, C. Ambiacus or if it has a shot of gold/yellow on the head, could be a C.Agassizii
  15. Looks just about identical to my Melanistius Corydoras. Planet catfish might be the best option to look these up.
  16. So I got 2 of these for an amazing deal (2 tanks and delivery) and I was wondering what is the smallest bubbler and pump out there. The light would give the min. heat requirement I would need but thinking of aeration to keep it in check (with regular WC). Not sure yet what I would put in there yet, just liked the tanks. Possibly cloud minnows, a betta, maybe have micros again.
  17. Oh I've seen those before if they have touches of red and the spot is an oblong it's a Puntius mahecola (South Indian Barb). Beautiful fish and apparently a new-ish species to the barb line. Here's a link that might help. http://www.seriouslyfish.com/profile.php?genus=Puntius&species=assimilis&id=1248
  18. *Tongue in cheek* I have noticed a difference in my fish since I started feeding them NLs foods compared to the others I had been using. Yes NLs is messier/dirtier but the basis on that is your fish are eating less of it and it's a matter of finding the right amount. I (personally) don't care for the Hikari brand food as it seems to jump their waste output. My pleco is on their algae wafers (ran out of food for him and grabbed it as it was the only one they had) and he is pooping like crazy. Even he prefers the NLs flakes more them than the wafers now too.
  19. Any Pictures? I thought about getting these but wasn't sure of them. Would be interesting to see them in a actual tank environment.
  20. Not sure if it goes here but giving it a try. Aquatic Exotic will be moving to a new location beginning of April. They are having a 50% off sale on most of their freshwater stock and great discounts on their tanks. Just wanted to give people the heads up. Thanks.
  21. Some of mine do. So no, not the only ones out there. The ones that makes themselves stick out do, the others get a general calling of "Dude", "Girlfriend" or in extreme cases "B***h" or A**hat". Currently we have a Goldfish (M) > Buffy, Betta > Huey, Albino Blue Spotted Platy > Dick, Gold Balloon Ram > Button, Blackskirted Tetra (M) > Widow, 2 Aphistogramma Borelli (M/F) > Boss & Babe, Orange Blossom Swordtail > Mustache, Common Pleco > Bugsy (Siegel) (All our Plecos get gangster names for some reason > Big Al (Capone), (John) Dillinger), Red LF Glolight Danio > Pinky, Phillipine Blue > Angel, 2 Juvenile Wild Altium/Marbled Mixed WIFI (M&F) > Missile & Shadow, Blue mix Veil tailed male Angel > Wraith, 6 Amano Shrimp > Hexadecimals (All of them are called by that since we can't really tell them apart but they are constantly have shifting displays of emotion, just like that character on Reboot.) and 2 (True) Siamese Algae Eaters > Thing 1 &Thing 2 (LOL we had never seen these before and couldn't figure out what they were until we got help so...)
  22. Judging from the amount of stock needed, AC will be getting a shipment I hope please!!!
