They may be siblings because when I bought them at petsmart they were sharing the same cup. So I got 2 for the price of one 1. Must have been a mistake but if they lived in that tiny space together I'm sure the 3 gallon is no big deal. I think it was just a new environment that stressed her out perhaps.

They are both very small female Betta's so I'm not sure if size is an issue. I have never seen them chase or bother one another. I did have a larger female in their that was but I removed her as soon as I saw her do this. But the two in their now are both very docile. Her lines have gone away though which is good news.

I would definately go with a local breeder who keeps their half moons in a filtered tank. They would be much healthier as opposed to some (not all) pet store betta fish. Some pet stores I have been to that had half moons all had fin rot so I am weary about purchasing already sick fish. That's just me though. Local is always a good choice.

I recently acquired three female betta fish. Two of them are in a 3 gallon filtered tank together. I noticed one of them has some very dark stress lines on them. I am guessing they are stressed due to being transferred around. However, I want to know if I can do something to make them less stressed. Suggestions and help greatly appreciated. I have only ever kept male betta fish and have never had this problem with them.

The whole reason I mentioned co2 was because he mentioned plant growth. See the connection? Everyone uses light in their tanks but LED lights I have found from hearing others is too bright. The bottled stuff may not be co2 but it sure makes all my plants grow like weeds. I have never tried a DIY method but only heard of them it was a suggestion for someone to look into.

I went out this weekend in hopes to find some reasonably priced bamboo for my tank. I think the fish don't really find it to interesting considering it's just a stick to them but wondering others opinions on it for a planted tank. I went to multiple pet stores and for one small bamboo stick they charge anywhere between $5-$7. Is it just me or is this crazily over priced? Finally I remembered Ikea sell bamboo and purchased 4 stick for about $2 each. I was very unsure about doing this considering it's from Ikea and not a fish store (might have bacteria unknown to the fish world) That's my rant about bamboo prices. Does bamboo do anything for my tank or just make it look interesting?

You should also consider using CO2 to help grow your plants. You can either buy bottle stuff or a DIY method you might find on the internet. This is what was always suggested to be as opposed to using artificial light. It is still good to use though but as you said if you use too much it'll cause harm to your coral.

Why buy extra stuff when I can buy one single solitary betta conditioner that has everything in one? That's what I'm saying. I'd rather just buy that stuff which has everything in one bottle. But because I do my research for different brands I know that you are right about some of them being scams but like I said the API brand is what I find to work best for bettas. That's just what works best for me.

That's what I was thinking too. My guess is maybe some sort of swordtail.

The other day I won two free plants from Big Als' from their spinning wheel contest. I got home and placed them into my tank and quickly noticed three small fry swimming out of the plant. I know they aren't the fry of any of my fish and have no clue what they are. I'll add a photo to see if anyone knows what they are. Right now I am just calling them my "wait and see fry"

I believe I only have one fish in my tank actually named. The rest I haven't really cared about naming. I have a red wag named Sandy because she has black spots all over her face.

I don't believe all betta water conditioners are a scam. If you are only using it for Bettas and nothing else why not buy it besides the benefits used in it are specifically trageted to healing skin wounds and reduce inflamation of damaged tissue. Yes using Prime is good for all fish and not specific but when targeting only one breed of fish buy the specific. I would use API brand of betta conditioner because it has extra ingredients that brands like Top Fin and Nutrafin don't have (These are the scams). Also the API brand has green tea extract which includes healthy antioxidents for your bettas.

Fin rot for Betta's is so incredibly common. It's generally caused by poor water conditions or exposure to toxins. Make sure you are using betta water conditioner for the water changes you are doing. In an uncycled tank for bettas the exposure to ammonia and nitrate can be quiet usual. So chances are if you have an uncycled tank it's going to be recurring forver unless you have a filtered tank system for them. If your bettas are having a severe fin rot problem where half of their fins dissapear at a time medication is available. However, in order for the fin rot to permanently stop you will need a filtered tank for them which can be expensive since bettas are generally not community fish. But, in that case there are tank dividers and such to use. Hope this was helpful and good luck!

Yeah it's a mystery to me as to why they died but it's just upsetting because I was hoping to breed some pure bleeding heart platty's because they are so hard to find and I love the colour pattern.

They weren't pregnant because they were still very tiny so I am guessing they weren't of mature sexual age yet probably somewhere between 2-3 months old it seemed. There was no indication of a gravid spot either. I believe the place I got them from was called Aquarium Central. Unsure of water parameters but I am sure this isn't a factor because I got my water tested at Big Al's a few times to make sure it wasn't the water quality in my tank that was killing them. I have a 20 gallon tank and at the time I only had 6 reg wag platy's plus the three bleeding heart ones. I started the tank approximately 2-3 months ago.

About a month ago I purchased three bleeding heart platy's (2 female, 1 male) from a local store and within the last month they have been slowly dying off and I can't figure out as to why. But here is the story: - bought them and noticed immediately after putting them in my tank that they had ich (however none of my other fish got it except my rubber lip pleco which died a few days after the bleeding hearts brought the bacteria to the tank) - treated them for ich and thankfully it went away since they are such a rare breed of platy - went away for the easter long weekend and used gel feeders - came back from my weekend away and one of my female bleeding heart platy's was dead (not sure why) - approximately one week after this my other female bleeding heart platy died and still not sure as to why that is All my other fish seem to be doing just fine not showing any signs of illness and neither were my bleeding heart platy's besides the one ich incident. Is there some special care I need to provide to these species of platy or were they just a sickly batch of fish from this store? I noticed my red wag platy's are very crazy when it comes to feeing time so perhaps they ate everything before my bleeding hearts did but not sure. What do you think happened?

Hey my name is Emma and my fiancee and I have recently taken up fish collecting as well as breeding as a hobby. We live in an apartment so we don't have much but what we have so far for tanks is a 20 gallon freshwater tank and a 10 gallon nursery tank. The fish I have are six red wag platy's, one leopard platy, one bleeding heart platy, two dwarf puffers, two honey gourami's, and about five yellow mystery snails (all though one of my mystery snails exceeds their regular size so I am suspecting it's an apple snail). I also have multiple fry from my reg wags and leopard platy. I suspect I have some bleeding heart platy fry which are pure because I had a male and female at one point but the female died. I am hoping I have pure bleeding heart fry that would be awesome since they have such a unique pattern. Thanks for reading! Have a good day!

I was recently given a pair of Honey Gourami's for my fresh water tank and I was wondering what is the trick to breeding them? I am failry sure one is a male and one is a female because of the colour indications I have been told about. I saw a hint of a bubble nest in a corner in my community tank but ti dissapeared now. Tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Platy's (Xiphophorus maculatus) I am breeding are: Reg Wag's Bleeding Heart (I only have a male no female so unfortunately it would be a mixed breed) Leopard Platy Honey Gourami (Trichogaster chuna) Dwarf Puffers (Carinotetraodon travancoricus) In the process of hoping for them to breed.
