http://s1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh607/mharding4/Otopharynx%20Lithobates/ an attempt at some pictures... need a nice camera!
-
I have a breeding colony of Otopharynz Lithobates that Jay gave me. I have a female with eggs in her mouth that I just noticed today! Hope they turn into fry! pretty excited!

Ok... attempt #2 at some betta fry starts today. Ive had the male and female in the tank with a divider for about a week or so now.. taped a cut in half styrofoam cup to the side of the tank.. water quality is a check.. and micro worm culture is thriving... Hope we have some further progess this time!!

I have a fluval shrimp tank.. same thing happened to me. I wrote them back and they sent me a new background... (my old one started to disintegrate and my crab was EATING IT!) ... I had to shut it down I made sure to use a whole bottle of sylicone on it this time.... better hold!

wow.. im embarrassed now to look at mine :P

So i heard people recommend cutting a styrofoam cup in half and floating it in the fish tank.. i have done this but i am noticing now that it has started to sink?! Which is pointless. there is no longer any air in it.. i cut it in half horizontally... was I supposed to cut it in half vertically?
-
Well. I got sinking fry... I only think there as a couple tho. The next morning I woke up I checked it and there was nothing.... I think daddy fish is snacking on his own children. I will try again here when i get a couple days off..

Super cool. Crazy how we think things work and then we find something new out!

I do believe they are copepods. Awesome job Jason! :P

hmm i searched them and I dont think they look so eely...i wish i could get a picture.. but youd never see them they are so tiny. smaller then my betta fry.
-
hmm ok. well i have turned on an air filter and added some filter squishings because my tank isnt cycling right... so ill see what changes.

I have a 10G tank with 6 snails, a male betta and a bubble nest. The tank has a heater but the filter is not running. I can see these microscopic crawlers that have a round body with a skinny pointy bum. They are very small but they are everywhere. Should I be worried? Anyone seen these before?

Thanks Polleni. Its all good. I now have sinking betta babies and a culture of microworms and baby brines.. Now my only concern is my ammonia, nitrite and nitrates are through the roof and water changes dont seem to make a difference... grrr. well see how many survive i guess. So Excited!!!

Thanks for the encouragement I was pretty excited to find that they actually did what they were supposed to!! I just took a couple pics of the male and his nest. Ill have to post them. Hes such a good daddy so far

Alright. So I got a few nice males from Bettafishgirl about a month ago. Thought it would be fun to try breeding them. Did some research and introduced a male and female as recommended. I have had them together in the 10 gallon for about 2 weeks or so and I was about the shut the tank down today because I didnt think the male was going to do his job. As I start pulling out the fake plants it lifts up the leaf that I had floating in the water for the male betta to make a nest in. Unfortunately as I disturbed the nest I noticed a whole bunch of white eggs in the bubbles!!!!!! I was shocked that they actually both did their job!!! I gently set the leaf back down.. sad that I disturbed the nest but I removed the female who was showing signs of being beat up, which the male was not doing before. SO! My question is now that I have a successful nest.......what do i do? I have a heater in the water but it is at 73 Degrees. I dont think the heater is working properly. I do not have an air stone in it, should I? I just have the male betta in the 10 Gallon and I have no idea how long the eggs have been there for! Any recommendations would help as to what my next steps should be! I will start to grow a culture of brine shrimp now (I do know about the swim bladder with them so I will be aware of this). THANKYOU!!!!

Also I hate to admit this but the water quality is not the greatest. Just tested it. Ammonia, nitrites and nitrates are high. Should I do a big water change or just one every day? The fry hatch in 24-72hrs from what i read.. im sure they wont like how 'spicy' the water is :P any thoughts?

the tanks about 3-400 gallons so youd need more than a pinch of salt
