  1. Thats ok Tanker, I fully understand. So I will just ask for a Journal spot of my own and go from there.....no biggie
  2. Hi guys, I have just joined AA and in my intro post I explained how I am planning on encorporating aquatics into a reptile build I am doing. Once a few members heard about it they suggested I ask the Admin team if it would be possible to add a Paludarium section to the forum....so here I am....asking. LOL......... if not, where would be the best section to do a thread on the progression of the paludarium?
  3. Thanks everyone for the welcome and the interest in my paludarium. To be honest I was a little nervous posting about the paludarium as I wasn't sure how people here would feel about the possibility of the odd fish getting munched on but as Wingin It said, there are fish that prey on each other, I never thought of that. I'll ask the admins about a paludarium section and either way I can to a progressive thread like I did with my reptile group. Basically it shows how its all built and put together and gets updated as I get stuff done. I am actually pretty excited about it as this weekend I will be putting the backgrounds and live plant section together. Next is the focus on the water section thus my interest here to see what plants and fish will work.
  4. Wow! Didn't take the goldfish long to cause annihalation did it? This is good to know being as how I am just learning what can go with what myself.
  5. So as I mentioned in my introduction thread, I am building a water portion of paludarium and would like to make it as natural as possible. One of the issues is the size. The tank I am using is 36" X 18" so for me to put enough gravel in the bottom is going to be two issues..... 1) the cost of the 100 lbs of gravel 2) the weight of 100 lbs of gravel. So what I thought I would do is build a false bottom with hills and valleys and caves and places for live plants to get planted etc. So my questions are as follows: What does everyone use to build artificial landscape. I was thinking grout as that is what I use on the backgrounds I built for the walls of the enclosure. Does anyone know if grout will stand up to being under water? Or am I better using tinted concrete? What are good hardy live plants that would withstand having a lizard swimming around them? What would be good fish to introduce into this environment? As mentioned above I will be constructing caves and hiding spots for them but not too worried as the water dragon can't catch fish due to lost toes (before I got him). Ok that should be about it for this go round....LOL.....as I think of more questions I will be sure to add them. Thanks in advance for any advice/help anyone can give me.
  6. Just joined the forum......oh thank you Almighty Tanker for so graciously approving my account. So a little about me....... My name is Ann, I live in the Edmonton area and my aquarium needs/experience is going to be a good bit different from most of you I suspect. My primary hobby is reptiles.......yes...you read that right....I have snakes and lizards of various kinds. Where the aquatics fit in is with my Chinese Water Dragon. I am in the middle of building a paludarium for him. For those that don't know what a paludarium is its part land part water enclosure. For the water portion of his enclosure I am planning of including some fish.....WAIT! WHAT! Fish? but won't he eat them? No, I am not worried about this......the poor little guy has lost most of his toes up to the first knuckle so is unable to catch fish. The fish are going to be primarily stimulus as well as making his habitat more natural. So saying all this I will be asking questions in the appropriate sections on the building process of the water portion and what would be good fish and plants to include. Oh if I do notice that by some weird fluke he is able to catch any fish (highly ghighly unlikely) then I'll take them out obviously.
