  1. Alright so I was at the auction in Edmonton on Sunday and got my hands on the following Rainbowfish -Chilatherina Bleheri x7 juveniles -Melanotaenia Parkinsoni x9 -Melanotaenia Splendida Splendida x3 This will be my first attempt at a rainbow tank so any info/heads up would be greatly appreciated!
  2. I can't seem to help myself, I HAVE to check in on the babies like every hour, I love watching the progress the little ones are making! So here's another update tonight: And we have free swimmers! The parents are moving them to a new location as we speak, might be harder to get pictures of them. We are trying to move some of the tank mates but it's proving to be quite the task, they flip out and get close to the parents and then the parents chase them like crazy, at this point it's 1 down 3 to go. I'm to short to reach in the tank so it's all left up to my husband as usual lol.
  3. So this was last night, went to check on the little ones before bed and found this little guy hanging out on the side of the tank: This afternoon their yolk sacs seem to be getting smaller and almost gone and they are starting to try and swim around a little, there are 2 bigger groups like this and then some stragglers in between: Not sure if you can see the 2 groups very well here or not but i like this pic none the less,
  4. Thanks, I can't wait to see what they will turn out like!
  5. Hey everyone, last weekend my husband and I were in Edmonton and picked up some Blood Red Jewels and Electric Blue Jewels, we were hoping for a pair and we thought it would be really neat if we were able to get the 2 different strains to breed. We haven't been having much luck in breeding our other fish (not sure why) so we weren't really getting our hopes up on it. Then yesterday I just went in to take a look and admire them a bit and noticed that 2 of them were getting really aggressive and not letting any other fish near them, so upon a closer look I realized there were eggs! So I called my husband in and we joked that it was probably just poop knowing our terrible luck with this kind of stuff, anyways throughout the day I kept going in to check on them and eventually noticed they were all gone, needless to say I was upset and figured that they were eaten. My husband was the one to discover that they were actually just down on the substrate, so when I looked in after I noticed that they were wiggling around. So this is day 2 and from what I can tell they are all still there, they were moved under the wood more now but they are all wiggling around and the parents are fiercely protecting them!
