  1. I'd try Amazon.ca then- takes a bit to come here, but worth it, if the price is significantly lowered. You can see now on there what the prices are- maybe make a file, copy and paste some of the pricing and products you might be interested in to get an idea of where it is now. If it's significantly increased on Boxing day- you have a reference for where it was at least, and can see if it's gone down significantly enough. That'd be my plan of attack at least.
  2. What CKMullin said is pretty much your answer, UNLESS you need one ASAP. If you don't mind getting a used system, you could post an ISO ad on here, or there's a bunch of different Freshwater or Salt Water buy and sell groups for various Alberta locations on Facebook. I am in the Edmonton group and often see people posting canister filters for sale there. I've bought a few off of that group actually, as I was running a lot of aquariums in the recent past. Having said that, I've found that Petland has a slightly cheaper pricing for the Fluval brand of canister filters. I'm not sure which brand you're after, if it's Hydor or Eheim or another. But if you're not in a rush wait it out until Boxing day- and go to basically any generic pet store. If you're in central Alberta, there's a huge fish store called Big Al's. Also- you can try Amazon.ca It's a really good place to go for Boxing day, especially for this kind of thing...because Amazon is able to lower their prices to almost extreme levels that local stores often cannot do...but that also depends on the vendor. Amazon has independent vendors, so it can be up to the brands what they want to price at as well, outside of Amazon...but it does not hurt to try. I've bought many fish related items on Amazon actually when I could not find them in stores, or when I needed a larger quantity.
  3. I'm working on cutting my tanks down too, and trying to just have a few large ones, and manage them as a community. Today I came to one of my tanks and saw my fish had pulled it's eyeballs and were trying to eat it. It's the third time this has happened this week. I guess at least with larger predators, the fish is likely completely gone. But mine are smaller, and this is the third time they've done it. Had to put the poor fish out of its misery.
  4. What a beautiful pair. Do you still have them? Curious to see what they look like now.
  5. Over the past 6 months I have experienced numerous situations wherein I've purchased fish from a pet store and had them either all die, or come down with someone, or found out the next day that they had a very severe disease or ailment. Even with quarantining some of the things the fish I've had, have come up with is extremely contagious, and obviously is resting in the pet store aquariums as well. What I'm not getting- is if a puppy was adopted, and it turned out this puppy had an extreme case of almost deathly worms, and a ton of other things.... people would be rioting if this was something that happened constantly with dogs....or even cats. But with fish it seems that pet stores can just do whatever they want, and don't have to work to keep their fish healthy or guarantee a clear bill of health. They can hide behind their refund policies to avoid responsibility. How is that even possible? I know some people are going to say that with fish there's stress and so many elements from moving them etc... but I'm talking about pure neglect or a lack of even empathy at this point for thousands of living creatures. Pet stores should be required to ensure that the fish are in good health and standing- CLEARLY before selling. Especially if this same business model would never be accepted with our fluffy friends.
  6. Update: someone from another group is bringing me some.
  7. I am in desperate need of some Levamisole to treat a 46 gallon ASAP, my fish have apparently contracted worms and are beginning to die. I've got shrimp in this aquarium as well, so if someone can please help me and spare some Levamisole to treat this tonight I'd be beyond grateful. I'm willing to pay for anyone who can help me out!!!
