  1. That's what I thought, but a friend said: The thing making it hard to ID is the "dots" are all joined. It's also very much too bright to be Eupterus.... Unless, with size the spots seperate and make the whole fish appear much darker. Eup. is usually brown-ish with much finer and more stripes/dotting on the dorsal and tail. So that threw me off....
  2. They were labelled as cories at Petcetera so I got three for six bucks! Does anybody know what he is?
  3. Thanks a lot everyone! That picture really helped. I managed to get it all setup, and looking good! Thanks!
  4. Crap...so, what peices am I missing?
  5. Alright, this is the stupidest question ever, especially since the majority of you have probably put together more of these then you can count. But I admit, I'm confused, and I need help. Either I'm missing a piece, or I'm just really stupid. I've taken pictures to depict my confusion. I have four peices of glass like this: These plastic peices... And apparantly, I am supposed to end up with two creations that look like this: How do I make it happen....
  6. Awww, they're gorgeous....I may have to buy a few when I get some spending money...
  7. My aunt is coming from calgary next week, maybe she could meet you on her way back?
  8. Is that a hifin pineapple sword? I had one just like that a few years ago. I have a female that looks the same, but with no hifin. You're welcome to her if you want her.
  9. yeah I don't think Im going to go with anything that needs to be heated, for that reason....it wont fit in my fish room, which is made to handle the humidity. Would it be okay unheated?
  10. Ive been reading and have found conflicting information regaurding the substrate. Some people say they keep them on bare bottoms, is this not reccomended? I think Im probably just going to stick to the fish I have and build on it a bit from there with similar fish. I'll save the rays for when I have more time, I would hate to kill one.
  11. Actually, I spoke to the brother of the old owner, there isn't a brick border. The two long sides go up against the wall....the entire pond is covered in this cement-like material used to cover decks and pick up truck boxes...apparantly it was set up for years like that with no problems. Forgive me if this is a really stupid question.....but would it be possible to keep a small species of stingray in this pond?
  12. Within the next two weeks, I am getting this pond...it was setup for a few years but sadly, it's owner passed away and it needed to be taken down. They're giving me the pond and liner as well as some pumps, tubing, etc...I also have a pump for ponds up to 2400 gallons, but I don't know how many gallons this pond is. I plan on putting it in my basement (I CAN get it down there! ) and don't want koi, or something. I was thinking I would put my Cigar shark into it, as he'll get atleast 2 feet long...as well as my parrot cichlids who already live with him, a pleco, my synodontis, pictus catfish, eclipse catfish, and silver dollars. Would this be possible? Would I have to put some sort of netting over top of it? Would it be possible tomake a net divider to seperate off a small part of the pond? Thanks a lot in advance! I was told that the two long sides are 8 feet long, the two short ends are two feet long....otherwise, I am unsure of the measurements. Though I'm sure if tried I could figure it out..... By the way, I think there's also some sort of brick bordering for it....
  13. When I was at petsmart we always had a few in. I have one, he's well worth the money.
  14. That's true, pond season is almost over, I forgot. I guess the little guy (or big guy?) will have to suck it up and live in a tank until spring. Dunl is generously giving me a 55 this coming weekend so atleast he'll have some room to swim around!
  15. Thanks I'm hoping to move them ASAP into a 55 and find a nice pond home for the Sarasa, and perhaps add an Oranda. I just need to find a healthy one up for adoption/sale somewhere, these guys are in awesome shape.
  16. There is a freshwater pipefish at big als. My friend called me over to look at the "bent gar", haha. He's cheap, under 20...he looked healthy, though I have no idea what they are supposed to look or act like normally so he could be on deaths door and I don't think I'd be able to tell the difference. But he's there if anybody wants to go check him out.
  17. I got some goldfish from a friend that works at Petcetera, they were abandoned there and needed more space so I brought them home...I'm hoping to get them into a 55 soon. Black Moor: Everyone: Sarasa Comet: Red Ryukin: Dog Pile!! Goldfish are so fat and weird and out of proportion that they're always tipping into weird positions... The two resident cory cats.
  18. My poor goldfish! I had four big goldfish dumped on me unexpectedly the other day...I set them up downstairs temporarily in a popup pond with a fluval that I had take directly off of my healthy established 80 gallon. I went out, and my mom called me a few hours later and told me that the filter wasn't running. I figured it had just for some reason stopped the syphoning effect, like the intake tube had fallen off, or something. I told her to turn it off and that I would be home within two hours and to put an air stone into it. So, she did...but she forgot to turn the filter off. When I got home, the big 5 inch bubble eye was dead and the intake strainer had fallen off. His bubble was stuck in the intake tube and the entire pond smelled like dead fish. The giant red ryukin was floating on his back and everyone else was gasping. I quickly hauled out a 29 and filled it with water from my 80, and a bit of clean water treated with prime. I put a sponge filter into it and some horn wort. I don't know what else to do! The Ryukin is sluggish but not floating anymore, but they still don't look great and the situation they're in now is very temporary. Guppylover, I know you love goldfish and live nearby to me, do you think my poor three goldfish could come visit you while I cycle a tank for them? THe fluval is completely destroyed so I need to start again with an unestablished filter. As for the fish, right now...does anybody have any suggestions to make them more comfortable? Has anybody had a similar tragedy befall a fish? I feel horrible, poor guy was alive for how many years? Then he came to me.

    I'm Back!!!

Finally!! For some reason, for the past month, AA has not been loading for me! It went to a IE or Mozilla error page and I felt like an @$$ because I was getting a bunch of PM's but couldn't read them or really reply. So, I apologize to anybody that tried to contact me...I have no idea what happened, but I'm glad to be back! I was craving fish talk! :P
  20. I bought six Large rats and six 400-440gram rabbits for the snakes at the show this weekend. I must warn you, some of the pictures are kinda gross if you're not into snakes. The animals were euthanized with C02 and dethawed though, so don't worry, they weren't fed to the snakes live. Suzy, hugging her rat. As you can see, Sal tried to start with the feet! We need a new name for her, we had "him" probed on the weekend and now we know that it's a female! Stretchin' out her skin
  21. Hehe that girl was so cute, she acted like a natural Some older, tougher looking kids would just stiffen up, she acted as if she had been handling snakes for years. That's my snake in the picture Same with the one the boys are holding. The snails are just baby's they're going to get HUGE. The critter in the fifth picture is a gargoyle gecko, ever since the show I have been reeeeally considering getting a pair.
  22. The scorpion I bought. <3 He's awesome...I surprised my mom with him today, she was thrilled! Bought a hatchling of this species, Lasiodora cristata. This is Scritch, the largest of the two snails I bought. Scratch
  23. Well apparantly they have hundreds of eggs so I was just thinking, instead of destroying some of the eggs ( I don't think i would be able to rehome hundreds of snails!) I could use them as feeders. I bought them at the ERAS show, they were 15 dollars each but I got my second one for 10 dollars. They're awesome, I like that I don't have to cut up their food. hahaha. I threw a corn in the cob in there and by the next day it was pretty much gone! They're so active, and don't leave silver trails like slugs. I'm really happy I bought them! The smaller one has a 2.5 inch shell and the other is 4 inchs. Now I want some exotic slugs! -roll-
  24. I bought two landsnails from Arctic geckos at the reptile show this weekend. They're hermaphrodites, so they will lay eggs. I only want to keep a few dozen eggs, but if I was to keep them all, do you think I could use the 4mm hatchlings as feeders for my puffers and cichlids?
  25. That's a good idea. How do you position the cinderblocks and boards? Do the tanks have to be sitting on the cinderblocks directly, on the edges, or can it be supported by just the board? How many cinderblocks should I use? What's your design, for your rack?
