  1. I have pothos in all of my tanks, and all of the deep bodies of water in my lizard cages, as well as my betta bowls. If you have a plant, just cut off a string of it, and put the end in the water. I've thrown whole strands into the tank and they've done really well.
  2. Use the garden type sold in most garden supply places if you go this route. Yeah, those are what I was planning to use...and I would bring the fish inside during the winter regaurdless, stick them all in a few tubs and kiddie pools, I don't mind. Has anybody tried a similar project? Thanks for all of the comments guys, I knew this was the right place to ask for help.
  3. I attach pop bottles full of filter media to my powerheads and run them in established tanks for waterflow, increased filteration, and use in quarantine tanks in the future. I filtered my 80 gallon with one of those for a year!
  4. My pirahna enjoyed mine. But I let my sister raise about ten and she's attached now. haha. She has them in a ten gallon, I think it's almost pirahna time...
  5. Crap! I have one of those sharks, I took him home when he came in with our bala sharks and obviously wasn't a bala. I took him home at a cute 2 inches and now, 5 months later, he's six inches and growing! His scales are huge, and he can swallow a rosie red whole. He lives in an 80 gallon with blood parrots, a firemouth, rainbow fish, and various others. I guess I'll eventually have to rehome him...or maybe use him as an excuse to get a 125 gallon. Or build an indoor pond...!
  6. I really want to make a pond in my backyard, but I can't use up any of the grass area because we have so many dogs, and not a lot of grass. It will have to be built on the cement. I have been researching above ground ponds, and I want to make the cheapest, but effecient DIY pond possible. I don't care if it's looks amazing, I just want it to hold fish! My rough (very rough, I have never done this before) is to use railroad ties to make a 8'x4' box. I don't know how I would hold them together, any suggestions? Especially to support the corners? Then I would, I think, line the walls with plywood, then some sort of liner, like carpet liner...? Then, I would line the entire box with a heavy duty rubber pond liner. How would I attach the liner to the railroad ties? I want it to be about 3 feet deep, maybe 3.5. How many gallons would this be? What would be the best, cheapest way to filter a pond this size? Thanks, in advance, for the help!
  7. That's what mine did when I had a gabillion convict fry They'd get right down between the rocks.
  8. Yay, it's nice to know I'm not alone! Recently I decided to tear down my goldfish tank, and then we got our new goldfish shipment in at work...and I just couldn't! I ended up buying three more They're just to cute and beautiful to ignore. I'll have to post some pictures soon. And Guppylove, I'm in castledowns too :P
  9. You may not be able to charge him, but you definitley have the right to refuse sale for whatever reason.
  10. Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I don't breed bettas, but I sure would like to! I just can't help but bring home every unique, odd little betta I see. I work at a LFS so everyorder the comes in, I sort through the bags and stash my favorites, then spend all week deciding how many I can buy, and which ones I'll take! It's so hard to choose!
  11. Where's the love?! There's no goldfish forum! Am I the only goldfish lover here?
  12. Occaisionally people buy bags from our store, I'm not sure if we're actually supposed to sell them, but the manager just charged a buck for every five bags. Not for everybody though, just regular, known customers. If you're a regular at a LFS, maybe they'd do the same for you?
  13. That's happened to me before! But it was just a couple of guys who wanted to fight them. I refused to sell them any fish, and then when they harrassed me about it I got my manager who explained that we are acting out of the best interest of the fish and kicked them out of the store. I work at Petsmart, btw.
