  1. I lost an Apisto. Caucatoid in my tank. There is no body or anything, it just simply disappeared. Currently in the tank, there is a ram, an Apisto. Caucatoid, 4 cherry barbs, a pleco, and some malaysian trumpet snails. Do you know who the culprit is? It's been long enough since the last time I saw him to make sure that it wasn't hiding somewhere. Does anyone know what could've happened to it? I also checked around the tank to make sure it didn't jump out or anything. They were living together for about 2 months without an issue.
  2. After doing more research, it's up in the air between Apisto. ermenopyge but the pictures I have found look a lot like the Apistogramma bitaeniata Peru Blue. Both seem to be very similar cichlids with a few little differences. Thanks everyone.
  3. According to the Apisto Forum named above the common name is apistogramma ermenopyge and the name 'Diamond' is an old name for the fish. Unfortunately, the pics I have found do not look like the ones I saw. Can the same species of Apisto's be different colours?
  4. Thanks, I found the site and posted on it. I'm hoping somebody replies. Couldn't find anything under their species profiles.
  5. If I want to upgrade my tank can I just use the water, substrate and filter from my old tank and immediately transfer the fish over or does it need to start the cycling process all over again. I know this is a beginner question but I would like to know.
  6. I was in Riverfront Aquariums tonight and was looking at the Apistogramma Diamond but I cannot find any information on these. Does anyone know about this. A scientific name? Anything? Thanks,
  7. Hi there, I was in Franco's Aquarium today and they have what they called sand/australian Gobies. Does anyone have them? Do they have any other names? Just trying to find some info. Thanks,
  8. Yeah unfortunately they were Amano shrimp and I added them yesterday and they were there this morning but not when i got back from work.
  9. So I bought some shrimp to put in my tank and I got some larger ones thinking that the rest of the fish would leave them alone. Boy was I wrong. My shrimp are gone and the one ram is very colorful right now and quite fat. :boxer:
  10. Awesome Lion fish  . Now I want one all the more. Man I wish i had a bigger place.
  11. I have heard that a general rule for stocking levels is 1 gallon per inch of fish. Does this apply to shrimp? I want to add some shrimp to my community tank and I'm wondering how many I could add. I'm thinking something like ghost shrimp or zebra shrimp. Current stock two rams, 5 cherry barbs, and 1 BN pleco in 20 gallons.
  12. hey welcome to the board. I am in Calgary right now and am keeping rams, BN pleco's, and barbs with no problems in the water. I know there's a lot of people here that keep a lot of different fish.
  13. WOW!!!! I am such a small scale operation. 20+5= 25 gallons.
  14. I've got a question. One of my rams died yesterday and now the other one is almost moping around the tank. I've barely seen him today. Do I need to get another? Are they a social fish? Any help in this is appreciated.
  15.  Makes me want to get a bigger tank.
  16. When I was looking for Rams, I found that Bolivian rams were a little less the german rams but for a good planning number i would think 11-13 dollars would do. If you find them cheaper, bonus.
  17. Hi, I have a pleco that has a whitespot on its head. Does anyone know what could cause it?
  18. Those are some great shots, especially of the bat. Wow I have never seen a decent non-professional shot of a bat like that. As for the coyotes I usually don't know how to take their pictures. In many cases I would rather have them shot. But I do know that the pack will often send a scout out especially if a dog is around and have the dog chase only to get surrounded by the pack later and killed. It almost happened to my dog if I hadn't got out there to call it back. But I'm with Bosshog as I have never seen or heard of them attacking a human. Even the rash of coyote attacks last year in calgary, I don't think they attacked a human.
  19. Alright, so I'm now thinking that I will enter the world of planted tanks by making my little 5 gallon a planted tank. I'm thinking about putting in some stem plants as well as Java fern. What kind of lighting is best? Right now I have incandescent lighting and know i will have to buy a new lighting fixture. So what kind should I get? suggestions.
  20. I want one too, those things look awesome
  21. So Finally, my barbs are getting frisky in fact I'm pretty sure that they are wanting to breed. Crappy thing is that my ram is following them and I don't have a tank to put them into. Oh well, gives an excuse to buy a new tank. Just thought I would share.
  22. yeah i would quarantine my fish as all of mine have come from LFS's but I only have a little five gallon kicking around and I feel bad having to stick a cichlid in there but my wife won't let me get another tank until we get a bigger place.
  23. Thanks everyone, i believe it's the heater. I turned it down last night and the light was still on. Well at least i have a good excuse to go to fish stores today . I'm pretty sure its the heater and the light is on this morning off and on. so yeah new heater for me. What's a good brand to go with? "If you're in an apartment, then I could totally see the room temp being too high - when I lived in an apartment, I roasted! Just think, if you're not on the bottom floor, you have so many floors below you with their heat on heating your apartment!" Jason, I live in the warmest basement suite ever. The people upstairs have control of the heater and its constantly roasting down here. I'm going to try the heater first because this is the first time for this long that my tank has been this hot.
  24. I need to lower the water temperature in my tank. It's quite a bit warmer then it should be so I'm wondering what would be the best way to lower it. I have turned down the heater but this is the second day of fairly high temperatures (temperatures close to what I would use to kill ich). So I'm wondering how to lower it? thanks.
  25. That's impressive Christian. Are you usine r/o water for those water changes or what? I couldn't imagine doing a 95% change every couple of days. How do you keep the tank stable with bacteria?
