There should be lots of fish waste fertilizer.... i only siphon the first couple of cm of the gravel every week. I don't go any deeper so the the plants have food. I am not sure it has a bulb, and i don't really think i should be disturbing it to check.

I don't understand what is happening with my lotus. I have had it since i first got the tank months ago and now i think its near death. When i first got it it had 4 leaves that where roughly the size of tennis balls, and flourished to have about a dozen twoonie sized leaves. That was not that long ago and now all it has is 3 leaves smaller then pennies. What going on? Its not even sprouting at the same rate. There used to be a new leaf every week, lately the newest left is almost 3 weeks old and there is no signs of any new ones. I just don't under stand what going on.

Well weeks later and no other signs of illness are being shown in the fish. I wonder if it was all caused by something being stuck in its gill?

Well that one goes over my head, how would a product be exposed to gamma radiation upon entering another country?

Well attempts number 3 and 4 have come and gone. This is becoming very frustrating. Each water change i have done i have been gentle with. I don't understand whats not happening. I never had such trobles with mbumas! On a side note, I've been having some what of a fuzzy algae bloom happening, its slowly taking over gravel that doesn't get syphoned because its close to plants and on the plants and starting on cave and glass. The pleco isn't touching it. Was considering getting some Ottos or maybe some A.Splendids if i can find them.

ok, i'll try they dumping new water in with a smaller container. they aren't due for a change till wednesday i think.

i have a pond snail, and i read that even with one it will breed with itself and create a tank take over. Or at least that's what i'm waiting for.

The Kribs are at it again, hopeing lucky number 3. Moms lost the big purple belly and both are being protective of a new cave. the 2.5 inch rose terra cotta. Now i wonder, should i postpone the water change? Last time i did the eggs failed or something. and should i up the temp? its at 24C.

Well, i came home and he was belly up. I'll check out fishpharmamcy and keep an eye on the others.

Huh, its not doing that, just been sitting in the current of the water spill being pretty still. Its now looking like it has Pop Eye too. Its entire body looks to be swelled up, it almost looks like the scale on it body are spread out alot giving it an almost shredded look.Uploading more pics to photo bucket.... will be up soon. Should i just cull him?

I've never had to deal with Flukes before, i'll have to do some ready up on them later.

Well it seems i won't have to. They have stoped being protective of the cave and the female is pinking up again. On to round 3. How come they can't seem to get past it?

So anyone have any ideas as to whats going on?

OK then.... should of thought about food for them. I suspect i over feed, so would they eat the flakes the other eat, if ground up enough?

For a few days one of the diamond tetras has been hanging out near the heater. and since i got to play with the fishes today i was able to get a good look at him/her. I think their maybe something in the gill that's irritating them, and the irritation is easily seen. Pics... The others for comparison

Yesterday i did a water change, Eggs look fine afterward. But in the morning i only seen 3 on the cave top and another 2 in the gravel below. I checked tonight and i can't see anything. Mom and Dad are still protecting the cave. what's going on? And Aunt and Uncle should by now hopefully be on their up to Athabasca if they haven't left jvisions house yet, lol. Hopefully this will help.

Their second attempt was a success, i see eggs in the corner cave, away from the other kribs.

would pond snails need looks of Ca too? and how do you give them extra Ca? I remember something about crushed egg shells...

Wow, that's so different from the mbumas i'm used to! I'll try and keep an eye out for anything tiny, and if the are setting up for try #2 i hope they don't the same spot right by the in take valve. Would the other fish eat the fry?

judging by their behavior the drift wood location has failed. the Mom is purpling up again. how often can this happen?
