  1. Well finally got the new corral plumed in and the lighting completed. Just waiting for the water to stabilize before moving in the dwarf seahorses. Normal lightning from Sunpaq 15" retrofit 50/50 PC bulb. Actinics from an Azoo lamp and Blue LED's for moonlight (Thanks AndyL for the help here) Daytime view Please excuse the cloudiness the tank hasnt finished settling yet. (But we all know how patient reefers are)
  2. Interesting, custom 180G. Well being that it is going to be 36" deep - you have no choice really other that 400w lamps, the question remains as to whethe or not you will need two or three. Check out Canreef.com for some custom lightning options and perhaps try this post there aswell, as there are some good people on there.(Not counting the ones of you who come over here aswell) If you are going to place the clams higher up on some rocks just remember that clams do move if they are unhappy. Suggestion, try wedging them inbetween two rocks.
  3. No its not that Albert cares more about helping than selling, its just his way of sucking us all in to buy more. Albert has it down to a science.
  4. In simple terms - YES. All cnidaria close up in some fashion or another.
  5. Hey Tim, Yah I saw the one at BigAl's. Gonnna wait fir one with better color, that one was fairly drab. Thanks for the headsup though.
  6. Thats looks so small, how big is it? And LOL - nice excuse for a 300+gallon tank. Good luck with the bamboo Micheal.
  7. Not sure if donate is the right wrong there rudy. But I am definately going to evict him shortly, you still interested Micheal, shoot me a pm. I'm on the hunt for a small group of fuzzy dwarf lionfish now, the eel is fine till I find them. Not sure if it was hunger, boredom or freak chance that made the snowflake nip at the lionfish, but sadly he never recovered from carpet surfing.
  8. Hey Tim, It may be a P. radiata, check the pics at he end of this. Has both the dark variant of P. volitan and P. radiata. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-11/...ature/index.php
  9. 1. carpet surfing, eels have a tendancy to jump out of the tank. 2. 45gal is not anywhere nere big enough for a Volitan lionfish, a dwarf lion yes, but a volitan will get 16-18 inches long. 3. Urchin may become a snack for the eel depending on the size of each, but that only matters till the eel grows. 4. The nigger trigger or damsel shouldn't be a prob, but the more aggressive triggers may not be a good idea (but I never realluy looked into their compatability as I have no plans to own a trgger at this time.) The eel may work in you setup while it is small but thats only temporary. JMO
  10. depending on who you talk to they recommend 1-2 snails per gallon, I have them in a 10gall tank with 4 ceriths and 6 nassarius (these will breed and give lots more). Unfortunately I havent found any in town here recently, If you do please let me know where, I need more ceriths. Another option other than stars is a gobie or two, they wont do the whole tank but the area around they cave is very clean.LOL
  11. First thing to remember with snowflakes is they are one of the small species, but still get just over 24inches, provided they dont go carpet surfing. What else are you thinking of adding to the tank.
  12. Connie, Better bet than stars is use snails to stir the sandbed, specifically nassarius or cerith snails. It what I use in with my dwarf seahorses and they keep the bed fairly stired. I will most likely oreder a bunch more to place in my reef tank. JMO
  13. Unless you have algea growth already, the clean up crew has nothing to clean. No algea - turbo snails & emerald crab go hungry No detrius - hermit go hungry , start fight and scavenging for anything to eat, maybe even turbo snails, make good snack. And yes you can add fish as soon as the tank is cycled
  14. I don't know what you are talking about Albert. Was thinking of anything, particularly NOT where you told me you like to put the long spine urchins. As for pain it's all relative. Mind you I still haven't tried petting my lionfish like you told me to try either.
  15. Thanks Connie, Didn't mean to scare you off the eels, just wanted you to be prepared for what you are getting into. With a couple of light modifications your tank will accomodate them. And again I shall never add post in that condition at that time of the morning.
  16. Tank is a 54gal. The snowflake is a very peaceful eel, I find. My white ghost is more aggressive but way dumber. Cant even find food on the feed stick in front of its face, quite comical to watch. The snowflake eats krill, silversides and squid no problems.
  17. Must say Connie it was impresive in person, the last addition look great. Must remember that one may be able to read at 5am in the morning, but I could definately not spell.
  18. Great this I have to see. I volunteer my fuzzy dwarf lionfish, we'll let you start small and work your way up to the volitans.
  19. Come on now - You guys are thinking way to small. Recreate an entire barrier reef and see if the neighbors want to pitch in for the new zoning costs. I know Tim's half way there.
  20. Love the link there dunl
  21. Very nice Connie, You gonna run a FOWLR or reef set up in there? Paul
  22. Future site of the new Dwarf seahore condus. AGA 7gallon minibow.
  23. And really can you blame a face like this?
