nice pics Aaron, how many tanks you have on the go?
-
lola would be the pug- and yes it does look like that. its a rawhide sadly, the cigar would have been a nice side show act

this is my boston TERROR Harley (aka the toy terrorist) and the pug princess of pudge Lola
-
congrats, from what i hear not an easy fish to breed- put me down for some of the juvies when they get big enough

i was thinking you needed an apprentice . this stand started out with a certain look on paper and it developed the way it did after many mistakes during construction. i tend to build things from my head as i go. By no means do i consider it in the ball park of your stands. if i had the money- you would be building me a crown jewel for the 230  i know what you mean about the money. what this thing cost me makes me never want to do it again. there is no way i could make money from this kind of thing. Well, i guess i could if i didnt mind working for $1/hr

welcome to Aquarium Addicts... no wait, Alberta aquatica

welcome, as for the 90- pass on that and go straight to a 150+. that way you wont be faced with wanting to go bigger in a few months like the rest of us . enjoy the site

that - that should bust your bank and slow the spending in a hurry!... so im finding
-
i thought it was reather excessive at first, but when i was first starting up, dennis from golds told me 8x-10x tank water circulation per hour is a good thing with african cichlids (if in fact thats what your keeping). i have an ac500, rena xp3 and an eheim 2250 on my 90. So i have always kinda stuck with that

the stands at petland are normally built with crappy particle board which swell really bad with the slightest water spillage and the verneer tends to peel i find. they chip apart with normal wear and tear as well. im sure some of their fancy oceanic ones are built better than the generic hagen brand but i have never looked at them that hard.
-
im thinking of offering my services to fellow members- i will build you a stand and canopy, you pay for materials and buy me 1 power tool needed for the job . i shall maybe do a step by step for the 67 gal im doing right now. i made many mistakes on the last one and flushed many a-dollar down the crapper renting tools from Home depot. This one should work a little better.

hell yeah im a smartass- but im not trying to be one right now. perhaps he might want to have a look at mine to get some ideas or else give me ideas for my next one. you never know. before building all mine i went out and had looks at others... rob, you have any blue prints kicking around ** hey look at that, my 400th post

the premium 2x4's at home depot (they are spruce arent they?) is what i use. here is a pic of the frame of my 90 gallon. i then went on to build the rest of it with mdf and sealed and painted afterwards. i went wayyyy overboard on the construction. when the stand was done it was about 300lbs

i love it! i shall be taking a plunge into "the dark side" in the very near future. i hope i do half as good as what you have on the go.
-
being that it will only be holding a 33 gallon, i would not worry. But like all wood, water+wood=not good. just make sure the stand is sturdy (well braced) and level. mind you im not an engineer, but i have built a few stands that work very well.
-
thanks Aaron, perhaps i shall put in 2 smaller glass braces at 12"s from either side
-
crap- thats something i never even thought about- is 24 inches to high to hack a center brace out of?
-
im looking to put a 36" aqua light pro (specs: http://www.jlaquatics.com/phpstore/store_p...ct_ID=mh-calp36 ) over a 24" tall tank (36"x18"x24")- will the intensity of light suffice for more demanding invertebrates you think?
-
why are you asking me? i think he looks fine- would like a better pic though.... looks great for the size in case you missed the joke and/or sarcasm- thats my name too
