  2. Sure...otos, perhaps dwarf corys....mebbe a mystery or nerite snail.
  3. Very sweet...I would love to have an owl in my yard....and bats in the summer.
  4. I don't recall what kind they were they are at Golds they are about 4 inches and I think they are 30 bucks Would have been sterlets.
  5. Long ago...but when the recent (this past year) sale of Superpet, they became PetsMarts.
  6. 40,000 gallons each (together, they are the volume of the zoo's hippo tank)? Just what are the dimensions of those things?
  7. I will think about it...unfortunately for you, I enjoy tormenting paranoids.

Welcome to the board and back to the hobby, Roger.
  9. Makes one wonder if you actually have any others...don't worry, I will not think any less of you if you do not.
  10. I highly doubt that....so, why so terrified of disclosing where you got the fish, hmmm?
  11. Who cares...name them anyway. That include people? ....
  12. ...and where it was abducted from, non? Well, if the lung came from any other shop in Calgary, it came from one local wholesaler, or one of two Florida 'farms'....and was either a P. annectans or P. dolloi (in the case of a Petland specimen or two and a couple that the very defunct Big Al's had before they imploded.).
  13. Not really, no. Mighty big of you, but I know just fine, thanks. I am curious as to why you cannot disclose where you got yours from, actually...seems a bit cloak and dagger. Suffice it to say that almost all the lungs that have been in area shops over the past three years have been dolloi, with the exception of two batches of two Protopterus annectans annectans each that Gold had in, two P. annectans sp. (unsure of the subspecies) that were in Pisces about 22 months ago(and a number of Lepidosiren that have been scattered amongst Calgary stores). As far as I am aware, not one Protopterus aethiopicus aethiopicus (or P. a. congicus or P. a. mesmaekersi for that matter) has been in any Alberta store in the past 5 years.
  14. Eheim, I am sure, but I am curious as to the other two...surely not Rena?
  15. Nothing that I can type out quickly...I will see if I can scan a the pertinants of a couple of taxonomic papers on the subject.
  16. Just because that was one of his two options (Cascade 700 vs. AC70), and it fits his tank size well...I love the Cascade 1000, 1200, and 1500 equally (and wish that they made a Cascade 2000...something rated for 250+ gallons). That being said, I do like the Fluval FX5...its the smaller Fluvals that I do not care for.
  17. Incorrect, they own the name...all the prairie Petlands (again, save Lerhbridge and Medicine Hat) are owned by a single franchisee...Petland Calgary (aka Petland Superstores)...they pay franchise fees and a percentage to the Canadian office, but that is it. Not controlling, but they own a hefty percentage, from leverage the franchisee needed for expansion. 1) Not rumours...I play cards with Dieter; 2) They do not want that much control...stores that sell only one brand do poorly. Funny...even the trade pubs state that Hagen owned Superpet...I guess that they have no idea what they are talking about....good thing you do.
  18. You must not have much volume experience with both, then...the Cascades are far better physical quality (over the Fluval '04 and '05 series...the '02 and '03 were actually pretty good) and much easier to use. I am constantly ordering parts for the newer Fluval canisters, particularly handles, impeller covers, impeller shafts and impellers. I like Aquaclears...love them even....but they are generally inferior to canisters for planted tanks.
  19. There are measurements, but nothing done easily with a live specimen. If you can remember where and when you got him, it could also help, as most of the proptopterus that have come into Alberta over the past 3 years have been P. dolloi and P. annectans....and I just happen to be familiar with who had what when. M.Sc. and UC.
  20. Not much of a photo, I am afraid, so identification is more than a bit iffy....looks like a P. dolloi to me from what I can see. How big is it and whereabouts did you get it (and when)?
  21. Welcome to the board...glad to have you here. :welcome:
  22. As per my previous post, this is the case no longer, as Superpet was sold to PetsMart.
  23. Incorrect. All of the Petlands in Alberta (save Lethbridge and Medicine Hat), Saskatchewan and Manitoba, as well as a couple in BC, are owned by Petland Superstores, which is based in Calgary, and has Bob Doerkson at its head (Hagen has a percentage ownership in the chain as well). I believe that Hagen now has a controlling percentage in PJ's, which was a part of the PJ's/Superpet chain, the latter half of which was sold by Hagen to Petsmart earlier this year (Pets Unlimited on the East coast is also mixed into this group of shops, but has been retained).
