    DISASTER!!

Im sorry to hear that. DIY can be dangerous and sorry for you, u had to find out the hard way. I have a pair of rams at my place i will sell you for 30 bucks if you want. Proven breeders. Got some neons also 5 for 10 bucks i can throw in some plants too.
  4. Andy I think u and i have fish from the same parents. When i bought mine i talked to shorthair over at simply and he said Darcy sold a bunch of SSxRT sidcus over there. Nice to know what my ss will look like. Nice fish.
  5. I would use natural tank light you get alot better look of the fish JMO
  6. Nice fish. Are you using flash when u take ur pictures??
  7. I dont think Alberta Aquatica is big enough yet for species folders.
  8. I would do what andy said or go out and buy 3 more :smokey: what a great excuse. lol. Just remember that discus are cichlids and like most if not all chichlids they are territorial.
  9. Very nice. Whats in there i see a turq and 2 snakes cant tell the other one. My guesst is another snake. Am i right?
  10. This is what worked for me. They were in a 25 gallon with a UG filter. The pair Spawned on the Up lift tubes and raised the eggs them selves. After the fry became free swimming (not wiggler free swimming) you can either leave them with the parents or put them in a 10 gallon. I use tens because of the small size and it will allow you for a higher food density. I then feed newly hatched brine shrimp, or powdered flake. No other fish were in that tank and only live plants were used. If you are seriouse about breeding them i would use a 25 gallon BB tank with a sponge filter and a Ter-Cota spawning cone. As for conditioning i used tap water and fed the pair high quality flake foods 2 times daily. I fed until their bellies looked like one big ball. lol. funny site to see. If you use a BB tank then there is no need for any other fish in the tank. Although the loaches shouldnt hurt the fry. As for going bad, what do you mean by this? Like go fungusy or what? Sometimes if it is a new pair (2 or 3 spawnes) then it may take a little paractice for the pair to get it right (parenting and fanning). Give them time. If the air spawned 3 times and they eat the eggs (all the eggs) every time you may want to speperate the parents once they lay. I have raised eggs with no parents if you want to know how let me know. A to induce a spawnig feed very heavy for 5 days, raise the temp up to 84 degrees, then do a 20 percent water change with cooler water. This sould get them spawning.

Here is my Pigeon Blood. SOrry for the tank. Them water marks are stained on there. O well it is just a QT tank. :P
  15. I went to calgary here on thanks giving monday and bought 4 discus, an Altum angel, and a Bristolnose Pleco from River Front. They had a Sale on all FW fish were half off. Here are my new fish but first this is the QT tank. 25 gal notice the altum in the middle and the discus under the Powerhead. The Power head isnt turned on i only turn it on when i am doing water changes. It circulates the water and adds oxygen. Sorry cant get a good pic of the bristolnose yet i will post as soon as i have one. Enjoy.
  16. Smokey my regualr temp is 86 in the night and 88 in the day. i know it seems much but i decided that i would do this to all new arrivals.
  17. Ok. I think it is fin rot. If this medication dont help i will raise the temp and add salt. Is there a set amount of salt i should put in. Or what?
  18. I bought my discus and he had some little spots of fungus on him (maybe 3 or 4) looked like from ripped off scales) now he has about 12. I am medicating the tank with "liquid Fungus Cure" has that little fish doctor on it. The fish used to be hiding but now that the tank is medicated he is starting to come out. No response to food; though has only been in the tank for a day and a half. Any suggestions to what i should do here. I all out of options if this medication dont work. :well:
  19. I am looking to change my substrate from blue gravel  to something better for the plants? What do you recomend. Lets not forget i am keeping fish with my plants mainly discus and small tetras. So i would like it to be sutible for them. Thanks
  20. nics are realy bad for algea. I find that just plain old regular blue flouresent lights work. If it is a planted tank i would just use normal bulbs but for bringing fish's colours out i would recomend throwing a blue on there.
  21. Anyone know where i can get bristolnose plecos. looking for babies.
