Gordon Wright
I'm ready to click the cursor over the "checkout" and order a 60gpd with a flush kit and a float valve for a 55 gal barrel. Can't do it until I hear some feedback from other's experiences with ro units, and what is recommended. Would the float valve and flush kit be worth it? I also get to Calgary a few times in the winter if someone was to drop a hint where some good R.O. filters are for my money. Thanks in advance. RO/DI unit here (bought from them a couple times before): http://search.stores.ebay.ca/The-Aqua-Safe...Q2dsafeQQsofpZ0 and a float valve/shutoff kit here: http://www.jlaquatics.com/phpstore/store_p...t_ID=ro-kpfvkit and will try to find a barrel here: http://calgaryplastic.ca/Barrels.htm Edited November 29, 2006 by werner
earlyriser
Speaking of R/O water... I have serious humidity issues in my house. I have between eight and twelve tanks running at any given time. So I'm getting a dehumidifier which can pull 30 pints of water from the air per day. My question. Wouldn't the water collected by the dehumidifier be pure water? Meaning the same as distilled, zero hardness?

Beware of cheap units using crappy connectors/components which may leak after a while. Buying locally can be expensive so research the web for reasonable prices for units, components, filters, etc. Dehumdifer water is not the same as ro or distilled due to the method used. Dehums use condensation therefore may contain traces of metal plus any pollutants that may be in the air as well as bacteria, gases, dust and other airborn particles. Maybe I missed it. They do ship but you have to phone or email them. Dont email their sales address but Walters as sales automatically responded that they dont ship north. I had no problems with shipping across the border minus the brokerage fee unfortunately. If shipping multiple boxes, make sure they link the boxes together to reduce brokerage. Other than that, Walter is a great guy to deal with, awesome customer service and really knows his stuff. dcookcan
My unit is from: Aquasafe. They are based in Vancouver and sell most of their RO units on ebay, but you can simply order directly from them if you don't want the hastle of bidding. Gordon Wright
The 2 or 3 systems I compared, coupled with peoples responses (thank you) came out pretty close price wise so I decided to go with the Aquasafe. After you factor in a tds meter which is included with the typhoon 3 $$ is pretty close. So now I'm going to see if I can work in a float valve to the existing shut off valve or need to order the float with a new shut off. Directions on the aquasafe could have been a little more detailed but with the picture online it's easy as anything. I see the Aquasafe site doesn't advertise the aquarium unit anymore, just days after I ordered it.
