Qattarra
look for frisky fish. They should respond to your presence. Their eyes should be clear. Ensure the fins have no "ragadyness" to them Even if they are crowntails, their edges are neat and defined, no finrot. The same health cues matter in bettas and with any other fish. Smooth flat to the body scales. An overall brightness to their color. Look for fullness in their fins, the more rays the better. Look at their lateral lone it should be straight. Different "types" have either more depth to their body or longer line. It's all in the eye of the person who will love them . Males needs to be as big or bigger than the female, otherwise he may not be able to embrace her. Here's a website of a breeder in Thailand. http://www.plakatthai.com/

Terrie Lee
Bring a mirror with you if you can. If you hold the mirror up to the tank the males will display for you. Then you can see them at their best and brightest. A mirror also works as entertainment for a betta. Just don't leave it too long outside the tank or Mr. Betta will tire himself out.
