sharon
Okay, so now I have some Nothobranchius Rachovii from the auction, always been a little curious about them. I am putting a tank together for them. My question is on peat moss. Is there a certain kind just for aquaria, or can you use the garden variety? From what I understand, you take the peat moss and boil it to get rid of impurities and oils. I am not sure if gardentype also has ferts that might cause problems or is unsafe for fish. jvision
You can use the garden variety - just make sure it's pure peat. I buy it by the bale - about 2 cu. ft. I don't boil mine, if I'm just using it to soften the water a bit; but, if you want it to sink, you should boil it.
sharon
Thanks that answers my question. I am planning to put a layer on top of sand for them to breed, and the sand will allow me to anchor some plants.
