mitsukuni
Saw some the other day as we made our rounds... I was tempted, but impulse fish buys usually end poorly, as we all know. Just wondered if anyone else had kept dwarf pikes, and how they got along with their tankmates, which sp. would you recommend, etc? The one I saw may have been crenicichla notophthalmus, but I'm not sure... LFS wasn't sure either. Nice looking fish though.
jvision
Being Pikes they are quite the preds. Stay away from tankmates that will fit in their mouths - even a little! Go for round-bodied tankmates, as they'll slurp up thin fish like spaghetti. Thankfully, they only get to around 6" - there might be a smaller "Dwarf Pike", but most of the "dwarfs" get to be that size, or so. Being cichlids, you'll probably want 1 or 6+ 'til a pair forms. I believe females are larger - dimorphism is kinda like Julidochromis. I have never kept pikes, just sharing what I've read over the years. arixonbarnes
There was a good write up on dwarf pike cichlids in a recent copy of TFH. It mentioned some that were only 3 inches long.
FishGeek
I've kept Regani before, the pair acted alot like kribs but a little more aggressive. I do know that compressiceps are very territorial. Don't know too much about the rest of the group first hand.
