Slough Shark
I'm planning for a shrimp tank in my 10 gal right now, but I want to fully explore my options. So what of these three would be best in a 10 gal (alone of course, or maybe with a SA Dwarf or some Darios or something else small): Bunocephalus coracoideous (Banjo Catfish) Megalechis thoracata (Hoplo Catfish) Pimelodus pictus (Pictus Cat) I have my heart set on the Banjo Cat, but I don't know about it's availability. Sam Chicklets
I would rule out the pictus right off the start as they can get fairly large and will eat anything that fits in there mouth.
Slough Shark
I had heard that, but Planet catfish said they were 4.7"
Sam Chicklets
I believe that they are referring to what they comonly reach in the aquarium I had a few reach 6 or 7 inches in a 108 gallon tank. I have read that they reach 10 inches in the wild.
corrosionjerry
Pictus are very buisy fish...can be a nuisance in a small aquarium.. I would try a small pleco of some kind... one of the dwarfs... Queen Arabesques...grows slow....looks great and only gets to about 3 inches on the average... and more importantly will be happy in a small non aggresive tank... Slough Shark
If I do go with shrimp, I will certainly get myself a nice small pleco or otto, just cause I like them. I was thinking a pit bull pleco if I can find one. I guess I will just go with the shrimp, need to stop looking at fish pics until I get the tank filled!!! Megalechis thoracata (Hoplo Catfish) Rather big cat (8") for a 10. Pimelodus pictus (Pictus Cat) Biggish (4") cat, with a big mouth. I have my heart set on the Banjo Cat, but I don't know about it's availability. Pretty easy to find, usually.
Sam Chicklets
You could also try Microglanis iheringi (bumble bee cat)
Slough Shark
Nick- I thought about them, but I decided I would need at least 3 to appreciate them, and wouldn't be able to go with shrimp. I basically want one big Catfish with a topwater fish, or just go with the shrimp tank (more likely). Either way, I'll be learning about the Catfish. Christian- What would be safe with the banjo cat? Small schooling fish? SA Dwarf Cichlid? Topwater fish?

Earthgirl
I have had a banjo catfish, and they are sooooo cool! Try to have a substrate that they can bury themselves in. Also, when you take them out of water they sqeak... It is soo funny to watch them bury themselves into the sand. Pretty hardy little guys. I have seen them at Paradise Pets (although their is a new fish manager that I don't know well) and sometimes at Big Al's. Pictus (IMO) get tooo big and hoplo cats get way to big for a ten gallon. Good luck with the search!
