Froggie
As sent to me by the Saskatoon Aquarium Club President: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Greetings everyone, Please note that our Saskatoon Aquarium Society August meeting has been changed to SATURDAY , August 25th. It will start at the regular time of 1:30 p.m. at our regular location at St. Timothy church on Landsdowne Ave. Due to poor flight connections and high costs for our guest speaker, Rusty Wessel, we had to change the meeting date. The good news is he’s an excellent speaker and will be doing two talks for us. He will do a talk at our meeting and also another one after the BBQ at Fred’s house. We are very lucky to be getting such a renowned speaker and fish collector. Please read his abbreviated bio that is provided on page 2. Rumours have it that there may be people coming from Regina, Winnipeg and Edmonton just to see Rusty. Hopefully they will all bring fish so it may be a great auction that you won’t want to miss. Sorry for any inconvenience changing the date may have caused. Please be sure to tell any friends or guests about the meeting being changed to the Saturday. And don’t forget treats for the meeting!! Thanks, Kevin Kaschl S.A.S. President MEETING DATE: SATURDAY AUGUST 25TH 1:30 P.M. ST. TIMOTHY’S CHURCH 2101 LANDSDOWNE AVE. BBQ:FRED OLENIUK HOUSE – 507 BRABANT CRES. We need to know how many burgers to get. RUSTY WESSEL: Topics- “Collecting in Honduras” and “Southern Mexico to Panama with a few stops in between”. Rusty gave the latter talk at this year’s ACA (American Cichlid Association) convention. RUSTY’S BIO: Rusty Wessel lives in Louisville Kentucky. He maintains over 90 tanks holding over 8000 gallons of freshwater dedicated to livebearers and cichlids. His fish room actually is a separate, beautiful, state of the art house constructed specifically for keeping fish. Rusty’s specialty is Central American fish having gone on about 60 collecting trips over almost 25 years. He has traveled extensively in Central America as well as been to places in Africa and Cuba. Considered by many to be the ultimate collector, he has introduced many new species of fish to the aquarium hobby. He even has a fish named after him, Theraps Wesseli. If it lives in the water, chances are that Rusty has either caught it or been bit or stung by it. He is also a prolific author and photographer. His writing and photos have appeared in all the well known magazines in the hobby as well as numerous other publications. Besides collecting, Rusty is involved in the executive of his local fish club and travels throughout the States lecturing and judging at numerous shows and conventions such as the ACA (American Cichlid Association) convention.
